Oredo, Benin City: As the political landscape takes shape ahead of the next election cycle, the Oredo Federal Constituency faces a defining choice. The current economic and social climate demands a representative who transcends traditional politics—a leader who seamlessly blends corporate expertise with deep grassroots empathy. When evaluating the capacity, track record, and vision required to deliver dividends of democracy to Oredo, Hon. Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu consistently emerges as the most formidable candidate for the House of Representatives. Here is a closer look at why he is the clear choice for the Green Chamber. A Track Record of Public Sector Transformation Leadership is best measured by impact, and Iyamu’s tenure in the public sector speaks volumes. As the Edo State Commissioner for Education and former Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), he did not merely occupy an office; he drove structural transformation. From spearheading the physical revamp of schools across the state to implementing robust teacher capacity-building initiatives and digital administrative reforms, his time in the executive branch proves he knows how to execute projects that directly benefit the people. Corporate Acumen Meets Legislative Vision The National Assembly requires lawmakers who understand the intricacies of the economy. With over 15 years of high-level experience navigating the private sector—spanning the banking industry with Zenith Bank to the oil and gas sector through partnerships with giants like Shell—Iyamu brings a wealth of economic insight. This corporate pedigree equips him with the precise blueprint needed to sponsor job-creating legislation, foster environments for small-scale industries, and actively attract federal investments and developmental projects to Oredo. Unwavering Commitment to the Grassroots Long before declaring his political intentions, Iyamu established himself as a pillar of support for the underprivileged. Through his continuous philanthropic efforts across Oredo wards, particularly his well-documented initiatives in Ward 10, he has maintained a direct lifeline to his people. By consistently funding business grants for young entrepreneurs, sustaining youth empowerment programs, and providing direct aid to widows, he has proven that his commitment to welfare is a lifestyle, not a campaign strategy. World-Class Intellectual Pedigree To secure the best outcomes for Oredo on the national stage, the constituency needs a highly articulate and intellectually equipped representative who can command the floor of the Green Chamber. Iyamu offers a perfect blend of local grounding and global exposure. He holds a BSc and MBA from the prestigious University of Benin (UNIBEN) and has further honed his leadership skills as an alumnus of the Oxford University Business School. This academic weight ensures that Oredo’s voice will be respected, well-reasoned, and influential in the National Assembly. A True Political Mobilizer Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Iyamu is deeply embedded in the local political fabric. A dedicated party loyalist and grassroots mobilizer, he understands the daily realities, challenges, and aspirations of Oredo residents. He possesses the political capital and structural support necessary not just to win, but to unite the constituency and deliver on his mandate. The Verdict Oredo Federal Constituency deserves a representative who is ready on day one. With Hon. Paddy Iyamu, the constituency is not taking a gamble on potential; it is investing in proven capacity, economic expertise, and a demonstrated love for the people. As the race for the House of Representatives intensifies, his blueprint for Oredo remains unmatched.

In a well-deserved recognition of his impact and advocacy, Ambassador Umanu Elijah has been officially featured as a “Rising African Youth in Leadership.” While acknowledging the prestigious accolade, Amb. Elijah used the platform to shift the spotlight onto the broader narrative surrounding African youth, challenging the way young demographics are often portrayed in policy and governance discussions. "In many discussions, young people are described mainly through statistics, unemployment rates, migration figures, or voter turnout," he stated. "Yet this perspective misses something important. Youth are not simply numbers in a report; they are a powerful force capable of shaping meaningful progress." Across Nigeria and the wider African continent, young people are proving to be the engines of innovation. From launching thriving businesses and steering public discourse to leading grassroots community initiatives and demanding a seat at the table in governance, the youth demographic is actively redefining the continent's trajectory. Amb. Elijah emphasized that when these raw talents are nurtured, their ideas backed, and their voices genuinely included in decision-making processes, their energy transforms into a constructive force for accountability and sustainable development. The newly recognized youth leader also issued a clear call to action for governments and corporate institutions, stressing the urgent need to move beyond mere rhetoric. He noted that leaders must intentionally invest in mentorship, capacity building, and the creation of tangible opportunities for youth participation. "Africa’s demographic strength can become its greatest asset if youth potential is intentionally guided and strategically empowered," Elijah concluded. This latest feature further solidifies Amb. Umanu Elijah's position as a vocal advocate for systemic inclusion, reminding stakeholders that the true wealth of the continent lies in the hands of its empowered youth.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a fresh wave of internal turmoil as another key member, Mr. Bright Kelvin Obarogie, has officially resigned from the party, citing a "misalignment of personal principles with the current trajectory of the PDP." His departure is the latest in a series of high-profile exits that paint a picture of a party in severe distress, seemingly reduced to the faction led by Nyesom Wike and his allies within the National Working Committee (NWC). In his resignation letter, Obarogie, the Immediate Past Special Adviser on Political Affairs for Ovia South West/ Ovia North East, expressed his disillusionment with the party's direction. While his words were diplomatic, they pointed to a deeper sickness within the PDP: the erosion of its founding ideals and a failure to learn from past mistakes. This sentiment is directly linked to the open secret of the 2023 general elections, where key PDP figures were accused of actively working against the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The persistent internal divisions and factionalism, which Obarogie alluded to, have crippled the party's unity and purpose. As a result, the PDP appears to have been hollowed out, with the mass exodus of members from various blocs leaving the Wike faction as the most dominant force remaining. For committed grassroots members like Bright Obarogie, watching this internal sabotage and the party's consequent inability to present a united front was the final straw. His resignation is a powerful indictment from the party's backbone, signaling that the crisis is not just at the top but is demoralizing the very base that gives the party life. If the PDP cannot retain loyal members of Obarogie's conviction, it raises serious questions about its future viability. Each departure, especially from the grassroots, means there's a verdict on a party that has lost its cohesion and moral compass from the good 'ol winning days, leaving it a shadow of its former self.

Behind the headlines, the positions held, and the high-profile appointments lies a far less conventional story, one built in places few would expect. These are the unlikely roads that shaped Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, a man often seen only through the lens of politics. He Grew Up in Poverty Amaechi’s childhood in Diobu, Port Harcourt, was marked by hardship. He has spoken candidly about growing up in poverty, sometimes uncertain of where his next meal would come from. Sleeping on the floor with seven others in his dad’s chemist shop, he was known as “the boy with one shirt and one trouser” at university. This early struggle left an imprint. It is why, as governor of Rivers State, he prioritized education and job creation. His First Job Was in a Hospital, Not Politics Amaechi’s first job was as a Public Relations Officer at Pamo Clinics and Hospitals, which was owned by HE Dr. Peter Odili, who would later serve as Rivers State’s Deputy Governor and then Governor. It was here, working behind the scenes in a health facility, that he developed a passion for people-centered service. Years later, this experience translated into results, as governor, he constructed a record 160 primary health centers and ultra-modern hospitals. His Lucky Number is 2 Long before his two-term ministerial stint, Amaechi was already breaking political ceilings, first as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers. He repeated the feat, serving two terms as Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. He was also a two-time DG of a presidential campaign. No other Nigerian politician has held both top leadership positions across the legislative and executive forums, twice each. This speaks to the trust his peers placed in his leadership across political eras. The Bigger Picture Childhood poverty, a hospital job, and electoral battles, these are not the usual stops along the road to power. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s story reads less like a political résumé and more like a series of revealing footnotes. Perhaps that’s the point, he has shown that he is just like the rest of us, shaped by the unscripted, the unexpected, and the deeply personal. In his story, we are reminded that in politics, as in life, the most compelling journeys are often those that refuse to follow the script.

While Okojie and Ikpea have their strengths, Ogun’s proven legislative track record and consistent advocacy for the people’s interest position him as a candidate of unmatched credibility and effectiveness. Furthermore, Ogun’s affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) offers a fresh alternative to the traditional party politics dominant in Edo Central. The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has been a focal point of intense scrutiny and legal battles. The tribunal, which recently relocated to Abuja due to security concerns, is currently examining the validity of the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election results. Key Points of the Tribunal: 1. BVAS Machines as Evidence: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has submitted the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used during the election. This submission followed a subpoena from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which alleges over-voting and discrepancies between the number of accredited voters and the final results declared by INEC 2. Witness Testimonies: The PDP has presented multiple witnesses who have testified about alleged irregularities in the election process. These witnesses have claimed that the results announced by INEC did not match the data uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV) and the records from polling units. 3. Legal Arguments: The PDP’s legal team argues that the election was marred by significant irregularities, including over-voting and incorrect collation of results. They contend that these issues were substantial enough to affect the election outcome. On the other hand, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Monday Okpebholo’s legal team maintain that the election was conducted fairly and that the PDP’s claims are baseless Likely Outcome: Given the current state of the tribunal, it is challenging to predict the outcome with absolute certainty. However, the following factors could influence the final decision: – Strength of Evidence: The BVAS data and witness testimonies presented by the PDP could play a crucial role in determining the tribunal’s decision. If the tribunal finds significant discrepancies and irregularities, it could lend weight to the PDP’s claims of electoral malpractice. – Legal Precedents: The Supreme Court has previously ruled that BVAS is the primary source of accreditation data, making it a critical reference point for assessing the validity of election results. This precedent could influence the tribunal’s assessment of the evidence. – Defense by APC: The APC’s legal team will closely scrutinize the evidence presented by the PDP and attempt to counter their claims. Their ability to effectively challenge the PDP’s evidence will be crucial in determining the outcome. Prediction: While both parties have strong arguments, the PDP currently have an edge due to the BVAS data and witness testimonies supporting their claims of irregularities.

Benin City, January 10, 2025 — Senator Monday Okpebholo recently hosted the acting chairmen and councilors of the 18 local government areas in Edo State at the Government House in Benin City. The meeting comes in the wake of the suspension of the former local government chairmen over allegations of financial mismanagement and diversion of funds. During the meeting, Okpebholo commended the acting chairmen for their commitment to upholding democracy and ensuring transparency at the local government level. He emphasized that the funds allocated to local governments belong to the people and must be used for their benefit. "When I came into office, I had a meeting with the Accountant-General, and he showed me some books. Some of these spending had no explanation," Governor Okpebholo stated. "I picked interest in some of the spending because I saw an item which was tagged 'Environmental security funding.' I have never heard of that before, and the amount involved was huge, N800 million every month. These chairmen were contributing this money and gave it to leaders of a party." Okpebholo revealed that the suspended chairmen had failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the funds allocated to "Environmental security funding" and other expenditures. Despite being given multiple opportunities to submit their financial records, the chairmen did not comply, leading to their suspension. Okpebholo assured the acting chairmen that his administration is committed to working with them to drive development to the grassroots. "The only way to drive development to the grassroots is through you. The President also recognized the local government and advised governors. I am ready to work with the chairmen of various local government councils to see that various council areas progress," he said. He also highlighted the importance of using local government funds for the intended purposes, such as improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He urged the acting chairmen to prioritize the needs of the people and ensure that the resources are used effectively. Chairman of the Local Government Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, who led the acting chairmen on the courtesy visit, assured the governor that they are ready to work closely with the administration to ensure that the people at the grassroots enjoy the dividends of democracy. "The chairmen working at the grassroots level are in full support of your administration. We are committed to bringing the policies and programs of your administration to the grassroots to enable our people to benefit from the dividends of democracy," Hon. Lawani said. https://edoupdates.com/politics/senator-monday-okpebholo-hosts-acting-chairmen-promises-transparency/

As the sun set, the doors opened to an Afro-futurist scenery that resonated with the very beauty of Afro-culture. Whilst Rave Lavida DJ stilled the atmosphere with a symphony of pulsating music, the red carpet welcomed the arrival of the gorgeously dressed guests to meet and greet the Ventura Creatives. The occasion featured the presence of Ifeanyi Nwune, a visionary collaborator for the 12-year-old Glenfiddich bottle whose ingenuity in curating creative pieces in the fashion world celebrates bold values of perseverance, creativity, and a strong commitment to breaking boundaries ideals that perfectly framed the theme of the night. Light, beats, and action did not overshadow the star presence of Ehiz and reality TV stars Crossda Boss and Ike Onyema, whose vibrant energy added just the right touch of brilliance to the event. Intensifying the event with contagious energy, Victony performed his hit Apollo and Holy Father. Runtown infused the crowd with his signature sound, as Mad Over You and Lagos to Kampala set the mood ablaze. As the swearing-in of Edo State governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo approaches, the political landscape is already marked by turmoil following his first appointment of Mr. Fred Odianosen Itua as Chief Press Secretary. This decision has raised eyebrows and ignited discontent among loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly those who feel sidelined in a party already grappling with allegations of electoral fraud. Itua, a journalist with The Sun, is not affiliated with the APC and did not play a role in the recent elections. This has reportedly left party stalwarts feeling betrayed and frustrated, leading to an alleged infighting even before Okpebholo officially takes office. Many within the party are questioning why a non-party member was chosen for such a crucial role, further deepening the rifts in an already fractured APC. Itua brings over 13 years of experience and holds academic credentials, including a Bachelor of Arts in English and a master’s in Media Arts. He is currently finalizing his Ph.D. in Development Communication. However, his qualifications do little to quell the discontent among APC loyalists, who feel that their contributions and loyalty during the election were disregarded in favor of a candidate lacking partisan ties. The appointment comes at a time when Okpebholo’s legitimacy is under severe scrutiny, with many claiming that his mandate was stolen from Asue Ighodalo. Critics argue that Itua’s presence in the administration may not only fail to restore confidence but could also exacerbate the perception of a government lacking genuine support. As Okpebholo prepares to govern, the reported internal conflicts within the APC signal troubling times ahead. The backlash against the appointment of Itua highlights a growing divide in the party, where loyalty is being questioned and the decision-making process appears to favor outsiders over committed party members. As the inauguration looms, the APC faces a critical challenge: whether it can unite its ranks and address the mounting allegations of electoral misconduct, or if it will continue to unravel under the weight of its own discontent. The people of Edo State remain on edge, hoping for leadership that prioritizes their interests over internal party politics.

A few years ago, the Governor invited me to his house for dinner. We ate, drank and talked for several hours. When we started talking about health, then the old Central Hospital was still standing. He told me about his challenges with E-Health and health insurance. I told the Governor my health challenges as a Sickle Cell Warrior. Then, the Sickle Cell Clinic in Edo state ran like the typical civil service office; opening by 8am and closing by 4pm, and not open during the weekend. For us, it meant if we had crisis, we'd have no clinic to go to after 4pm or during the weekend. I told the Governor the severity of it and the need for this to change. I told him the other Warriors and I will forever be grateful if he looked into the situation and make the clinic run 24hrs with at least a doctor and a nurse always on call. The Governor told me of his plans to demolish Central Hospital, long long before the rest of the public knew (what a privilege!), and laid out his reasons for wanting to demolish the hospital. It made perfect sense. In fact, that was the only option. He told me to not worry, that I'll soon have a Primary Health Care Centre close to me, and that he'll look into ensuring the Sickle Cell Clinic run for 24 hours. He promised me. Today, the clinic runs all day every day, and like other Edolites, I have a Primary Health Care Centre close to me, with health insurance for my whole family. I have tonnes of beautiful memories but this one is the most profound to me. Thank you sooooooooooo much, @Governor Godwin Obaseki. I will defend his legacies, name and image until the end of time. Thank you sir. - Tunde Tee Olatunji
