HealthTuberculosis Awareness by Efelee05(op): 9:25am On Jun 21, 2018
Never would've imagined
There's this popular belief that people that usually have tuberculosis are old people or smokers. So when I fell ill, I never imagined I'd be diagnosed with tb.
I can still remember my dad telling me to confess what was wrong with me because I wasn't responding to treatments administered. I had been taking to a couple of hospitals where I was treated for typhoid and malaria, yet no improvement! Not until I was taken to a General Hospital was it discovered.
How tuberculosis is spread
Basically tuberculosis is spread when an infected person releases the bacteria into the air via coughing, sneezing and even singing. And the only way it can be contracted is through breathing in the bacteria.
Symptoms
A lot of people in Nigeria are not aware of the symptoms of this disease, which has led to many high rates of death among victims.
However I will be listing the symptoms I had
1) Chest pain mostly in the left side
2) Persistent cough of over 3 weeks
3) Loss of appetite
4) Weight loss
5) Night sweats
6) General weakness
7) Cold and Chills
Other symptoms may include
Coughing blood
If you notice four or more of this symptoms do well to take yourself to the nearest clinic and be tested for tuberculosis. It can be cured but it is essential you come in when it's still early.
