When we wanted to go on strike , they told us that if we are tired of the job we should resign |
Nairalanders please advice us, National assembly has refused to pay their medical interns. The internship is a 1yr mandatory training programme set out for medical/health sciences graduates who have been inducted. It covers the fields of optometry, dentistry, medical laboratory sciences, physioterapy, pharmacy, radioteraphy and medicine/ dental surgery(house job as it applies in the case of the latter). This programme is to b performed in any health institution having the necessary requirements to absorb interns within a specially laid out scheme, CONHESS( Consolidated health sector scheme) approved by federal government for this purpose, and of course with the go ahead from the councils “that be” as d case may be. This requirements are as follows; Proper equipments and facilities, proper personnel to train the interns, and of course evidence to show that the institution has financial bouyancy to remunerate the interns in accordance with the provisions of the CONHESS. The National Assembly Clinic Abuja is one of those institutions that undertook to absorb interns for this training. From the beginning of this session 2014\2015, various interns were absorbed to commence training from various dates in late 2014 (november, and december), and early 2015( january, and febuary) depending on the units. Each intern numbering an average of 20 per unit was handed an apointment letter signed and stamped by each strata of management in National assembly, stating clearly the monthly salary, duration of payment( 1yr) and other normal information that constitutes a normal appointment letter. Since the beginning of the programme all the interns were owed about 6mnths, and on severe pressure from them were handed out jst 1month salary. As we speak most interns numbering about 70 to 80 haved been owed 8 to 9months salary despite the fact that dey r mandated to come early and close sametime as the normal routine permanent staff and even go the extra mile to do “Calls.” |
