And you don't think that's exactly what he was doing? Who do you think are suffering from the FG's incompetence and inaction in Apapa?

Who do you think the people of Lagos voted into office to speak out and look out for them?

Is your imagined and irrelevant failure of BRT responsible for FG incompetence and laziness? Is this the reason why Nigerians are suffering in Apapa?

Goldenboy007: Preposterous ! Not everybody on Nairaland is an uninformed simpleton ! You are highly opinionated, your views are jaundiced and you sound very parochial typical of Nigerian political brigands! No insult intended - right back at you.
Wonderful! When will all these half-baked government media entourage learn they cannot continue to bamboozle people with charades? You address people as if they are bunch of kindergartens on excursion in Lagos!!!! Do you think I am a foreigner or you want me sit you down and school you on the history of Lagos? We built Lagos on integrity before the class of your sort came from your villages to plunder Lagos under the pretext of fictitious " foreign investors" !!! Wo gentleman abeg let me leave you to continue to wallow in your strait jacket before I lose my temper! One day those people that elected charlatans like you will see the light !
But you are yet to tell us exactly what you are against here?

1. Are you against private investments?

2. Are you against job creation.?

3. Do you think the lagos state government should have turned down this investments and the tons of jobs it brings because the investor did not site the project in Ipaja or Abesan?

4. Are the people in Abesan and Ipaja begging for high rise luxury apartments?

4. Tell us precisely what the Lagos state should have done?

lol @ we built Lagos on integrity? Please keep quiet, Lagos was built on hard work, investments, jobs and great opportunities from real estate and high rise in Marina, VI to industries in Apapa, Matori, Ilupeju, Mushin and Ikeja industrial estates. We didn't sit on our hands and say oh no, you can not come in to invest unless you do it over here or there?

In one breath you want to help poor people, but in another breath you are against what they need to get out of poverty, be financially independent and take care of their family.

Your contradictions and hypocrisy stinks to high heaves.

The thing is, many of you come here to run your mouth about poor people, but you have zero clue what it takes to lift poor people out of poverty.

Btw, investors are coming to plunder you every time they show up to invest and create jobs?

What about investors like the new intercontinental, Radisson Blu, Four points, Sheraton and many more that's created thousands of jobs and tax base for the Lagos state government? Are they plundering us too?

When the same people go to other countries to invest include right there in South Africa, are they plundering them too?

Do the citizens have to put pressure on public officials what they pay them to do in the first place and to tell them to do their job?

Or they don't know the reason why they are on the job and getting paid?

Let's stop being selfish and think of others too
Who is selfish? The people we are paying to do their job and refusing to do the same job or the people suffering because the are not doing their job?

If the opposition in developed countries are playing the way we do, they would be heading no way.
Developed countries are developed because they do their job or they get fired. They don't sit on their assss while collecting tax payers money.

The more we pressurize them, the more mistakes they make.
I feel like laughing, but I won't because this is just to sad.

Yes, they are not doing their job because of my attitude so I need to change my attitude before doing their job..

Goldenboy007: Why are you emphasizing tax revenue? Do you realize that the main incentive for bringing investors in the first place is because Government advocates Tax holiday for these companies spanning several tax-years? Which simply means some of them are not taxed in so many ways so zero tax revenue! The bulk of citizens tax revenue exceeds whatever any investor will bring so let's set our priorities straight.
Also I think you have gotten the argument wrong, it is not about rejecting investments but are they investing in the right places? We cannot window-dress these societal infrastructural inadequacies. BBC aired a documentary titled "Welcome to Lagos" where they showed the other side of Lagos as different from the pomps and pagentry dipicted by the "Lagos Island scenerios. This has formed the global perception of what the average Lagos is to outsiders, we were offended and spent billions in PR rather than addressing the pertinent issue raised in the documentary that has continued to linger on!
I have lived in Lagos for years and other parts of the world, saying Lagos Government " is trying" is a relative term because we are referencing other states within the impoverished Nation. Let's not celebrate mediocrity in the name of patriotism, thank God for globalization because many people are now seeing what is obtainable in the rest of the world!
A new world order is emerging and African nations would soon witness that wind of change, the earlier African governments realize that the power belongs to the people the earlier they would start treating their people well !
You used the word "progress" in your final statement..to that I would say - perhaps climbing the ladder of progress is good but let's ensure the ladder is leaning on the right wall or else what we would achieve is getting to the wrong place faster !
1. To start with, you can not say anything about tax holiday simply because you don't know anything about this investment beyond this thread.

2. We do know that even with tax holiday, this investment is injecting hundreds of millions of dollars into the Lagos state economy.

3. We do know that the tax base gets better because we have more people working and more people to tax

4. We do know that you can not tax unemployed Lagosians which means without such investments and many Lagosians with jobs, you have less money to build roads, bridges, schools and generally take care of your expanding and growing population.

5. I didn't get anything wrong, you on the other hand is simply because this is not a state project or the state government making investment decision with taxpayers money.

6. Of what use is a out of zone high rise luxury apartment in Ipaja or Agege? Are the people in Ipaja or Agege their target market or as the governor, you wont let them pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the Lagos state economy unless they site their high rise luxury apartment in Ipaja or Abesan?

When you say they should invest in the right place, exactly what are you talking about?

You are one of them, no wonder you sound very unintelligent

What's your driving point again?

The government officials the Nigerian taxpayers pay to do their job are free to derelict, ignore heir responsibilities and blame it on other people?

Are the Nigerian taxpayers paying Fashola to do the federal government's job? And have you even repaid him the N50 billion he spent repairing 117 federal roads?

Fashola knows his duty so he doesn't blame or criticize the FG for his own roads and responsibilities.

Tell your paymasters to do what the taxpayers are paying them to do and also refund Lagos state's N50 billion...

Btw, I'm not calling you names. Ignorance means lack of knowledge and you're obviously ignorant because you lack knowledge at least regarding this your views..

that's the exact notion Fashola made on News, that FG is the one making millions from the port, so they should come and repair the road. NPA has come out to say Lagos is also benefiting from the port so Fashola was wrong to make that kind of comment,

Rather he should seek a way to partner with Fg and get the road fixed.
1. Even if the FG is not making 1 kobo from the place, it's still their responsibility and this is what Nigerians are paying them to do?

2. Saying Lagos state should partner with the FG says a lot about your warped and IGNORANT comments and I say this because the FG owe Lagos state well over N50 billion for doing what you are ignorantly saying they are not doing.

3. But have they remembered Lagos state taxpayers for taking their efforts? Nope?

Fashola Tasks FG On N50 Billion Spent On 117 Federal Roads

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday, urged the federal government to refund over N50 billion the state government spent on repairs of the 117 federal roads in the state.

The governor, who disclosed this while speaking at a stakeholders' forum on Wharf landing fee collection in Lagos organised by the state government said the repairs were done to ensure that economic activities were not disrupted.

According to him, "We intervened in federal roads because they would disrupt economic activities if we left them in a state of disrepair. One can imagine the economic impact of watching Apapa/ Oshodi Expressway to be completely un-motorable.

"The state government has, so far, spent N50. billion on the maintenance of federal roads in the state and we are yet to get a refund. We can't just watch these roads to rot away because we feel the pains."

Goldenboy007: As much as I appreciate your ideas and opinions, I also want to be sure that you realize that to use the term "Economic or Social Development" for a State or Nation, it is not measured by the presence of infrastructures accessible only to the few rich and upper class demography. Development is a term that should be used to connote what is obtained as average standard. Some of these western countries are tagged "Developed" not because they can boast of isolated luxury infrastructures rather based on the fact that majority of common masses have cheap access to these luxurious infrastructures !
I appreciate what Lagos Government is doing and I am an indigene by birth and history, however the government should focus more on the infrastructures that will better the welfare of the average citizens. Why don't we leave Ikoyi, V.I, Lekki and build Skyscrapers in Ipaja, Abesan, Agege, Ojodu, Isolo and the related suburbs? They need new networks of roads and bridges there, they need beffiting cheap accommodations, modern educational facilities. If you argue these developments we see in your articles are private investments then let the government champion the initiatives to bringing such investments to the locality.
Let's be warned, Lagos Island and environs are coastal regions, the world's global climate is changing, those places are below sea level. US has had its own share, let's pray it doesn't happen to us!
1. I see what you are saying, but you can not in one breath lament lack of facilities in other areas when in fact the funds and tax base need to fund the same facilities in the areas you mentioned comes from the same investments you are castigating.

Investments drives the economy

Investments lifts people out of poverty because it create jobs and opportunities

Investments widens the state's tax base.

Bottom line, you can not have it both ways.

2. You want the common man to have access to good things, but you are still against the same investments that creates the same jobs, money and opportunities that enables the common man to move up the scale of economic independence..

Lagos state is not a developed Nation with hundreds of years of growth and development and Lagos state doesn't have sovereign Nation resources like developed nations, it's just a small state in Nigeria struggling to take care of 20 million people because of Federal failure and weak and unproductive other states in Nigeria.

Bottom line, you can not have it both ways

3. You can not site skyscrapers and luxury apartments in Ipaja, Agege and the other places you mentioned because of zoning and even, why do that anyway? Is Abesan their target market?

4. You said the people need good roads, schools and other social amenities which the state is doing more than any other state in Nigeria and even more than the FG.

...but where do you think the state get the money from? Is it not from taxes and if you don't have investments and jobs to tax for resources, how do you build the roads and all the things you mentioned? You want them to rob the bank?

Bottom line, you can not have it both ways

I do have a question for you though.

What do you think the state should have done regarding this hundreds of dollars worth of investment?

You mean they should have rejected it by telling the investors that they don't want the investment because there are poor people in Lagos?

Is this how Nigerian think?

Is this their idea of progress and helping the same poor people they love to talk about?

Who are these politicians and where are they from?
Don't ask me!!

Fashola, has recently lost some points with his recent way of criticizing opponents at every function and instant, instead of focusing and scoring more points for APc.
Is there anything wrong if he looks into the road rather than wait for Fg, thinking using it as propaganda will earn him points.

There is not need pointing to Fg, if there is no budget for the road this year.
Ur indigenes are suffering u are trying to gain cheap points, fix the road, you are not the first state Gov to fix Fg roads, and won't be the last.

In reality who benefits more from that port, FG or Lagos state
Why do you think the same useless FG owe the Lagos state government N50 billion? Maybe Fashola is sick and tired of taking care of FG responsibilities and the FG not refunding the Lagos state taxpayers for their proactive efforts.

This country is rotten because of mentality like yours where we excuse incompetency, laziness and lack of care while blaming other people for not doing your job, the same job you swore oath to the Nigerian people to do.

What happens if we all leave our job for other people to do?

We really don't have leaders of tomorrow, we have lousy and backward thinking people with embedded culture of laziness, incompetence and lack of sense of duty and purpose...

What is really wrong with Nigerians??... Some people think this is fun but little do they know that just like every other habit, it creeps into their brains like cancer and completely overcomes their entire sense of reasoning.
This is a needed private investment and the only and best way to get people people out of poverty is via private investments. This is why leaders all over the world beg for investments, this is why they go on trade missions, this is why they hold economic forums, it's all about investments and job creation.

Nigerians in nearly every sector are destined to benefit and feed their families from these investments from construction workers to artisans, to materials vendors, caterers and food vendors, cleaners, landscapers, attendants, managers, advertisers and so on.

On top of all that, such investments boosts the state's tax base and this is the same money the state need to improve social and infrastructural services like roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, fire service and so on..

These ignorant and illiterate trolls making noise about poor people have zero clue about the poor and how to get people out of the poverty.

Going by their shallow, ignorant, irresponsible and dangerous mentality, we should just turn away billions of dollars investments and countless jobs they bring because we have poor people?

They ignorantly think the government's main job is to place the poor in the society on government welfare program instead of empowering them with jobs and opportunities.
PropertiesRe: Tallest Residential Sprayed Concrete Tower To Be Built In Lagos by EkoIle1(op): 1:19pm On Jul 24, 2014
hiroz: Sprayed concrete is a method of applying
concrete that is generally self supporting without
the need for form work. Sprayed concrete is often
referred to as Gunite (dry mix) or Shotcrete (wet
mix)Both methods provide a means of applying
concrete that is as good and in many cases
superior to conventional concrete.
Sprayed concrete is reinforced by conventional steel rods, steel mesh, and/or fibers. Fiber reinforcement (steel or synthetic) is also used for
stabilization in applications such as slopes or tunneling.instead of moulding blocks or pouring cement step by step into cast.u just spray the damn cement unto a prepared surface like spray painting.
Shotcrete is, in effect, a version of a cast-in-place
concrete wall. Rather than placing concrete into
forms, however, a fresh mix is sprayed onto wall
panels that have been erected in the shape of the
building. A nozzleman applies concrete from a
pressurized hose to encompass the reinforcement and build up the wall thickness, forming
structural shapes that include walls, floors, roofs,
and other assemblies
Advantages
Shotcrete systems have advantages similar to all
other concrete walls. They are strong, durable,
resistant to disasters, fires, mold, insects and
vermin, and have low permeability, good thermal
mass, and create tight envelopes. Although the
hardened properties of shotcrete are similar to conventional cast-in-place concrete, the nature of
the placement process provides additional
benefits, such as very fast erection, particularly on
complex forms or shapes, including curved walls
and arches. Shotcrete is a cost effective building
method due to the speed of construction and minimal equipment requirements.
You are basically moulding an entire structure....
Thanks for the info...

This sprayed concrete process was selected and advanced to minimise costs and build-time while providing limitless formal freedom to the design process. The Architects and Engineers have chosen the development of this simple on-site fabrication method against the backdrop of a local Contracting tradition that is not explicitly ‘high-tech’. As such, the building process is appropriate and empowering, enabling the local contractor, Deux Project Nigeria Limited, to deliver the highest inhabited sprayed-concrete structure in the world without needing to outsource the technical issues”, their statement read.

Construction of the landmark scheme, which won planning approvals in June 2014 and is SPARK’s first significant project in Africa, will begin between the months of September and October 2014.

A spokesman for the clients, Athena Capital Limited, explained to VENTURES AFRICA that Lagos was chosen for the project given its leadership position (in Nigeria) in areas such as economy, population, wealth et cetera. The spokesman further disclosed that the planning for the project began 16 months ago with the singular goal of creating and delivering a project never before seen in Nigeria and indeed anywhere in the world. “We refused to think small and we refused to believe because the project will be in situated in Lagos or Nigeria, we had to somehow compromise”, he added.

According to SPARK’s design, each home in Ramzi Towers is anchored by a centrally located kitchen that forms the hub of the spacious common area. The living, dining, bar, library and loggia areas are all interconnected around a central pre-fabricated kitchen hub. Dedicated lifts serve two apartments per floor on our lower levels. The uppermost floors will enjoy private lift access to spacious four bed apartments. These units contain additional reception or “morning” rooms that have been oriented to benefit from the morning sun. The top two floors are reserved for exclusive, exquisitely constructed duplex four bedroom penthouses with private roof terraces.

Elated about the project, the spokesman for Athena Capital Limited declared that “The success of Ramzi Towers and subsequent exceptional new real estate projects inspired by it will help convince people that the same way negativity is contagious is the same way positivity is contagious. It actually pays better in the short and long-term to do things properly and to the best of your God given abilities”.
The project team is also undertaking the establishment of a shadow program, where UK skills and knowledge are to be shared and transferred to local young Nigerian consultants, SPARK disclosed.

SPARK’s project director, Max Titchmarsh added; “(we) are excited to be part of a new generation of International consultants helping Nigeria re-discover its appetite for ambitious, innovative and sustainable development that can reflect the huge potential of this major economy. We think Nigeria is beginning a new chapter of global prominence and we believe that there is a new breed of domestic development and contracting expertise that will see the current surge of development activity translates into a lasting legacy

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday announced plan by his administration to introduce ‘Rent to Own Scheme,’ in the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, LagosHoms.

Fashola said the initiative was to encourage residents in the informal sector participate in the housing scheme.
With the new proposal, the 30 per cent equity contribution would be waved for the intending applicants who might not be able to afford the initial first payment of the housing scheme which ranges from N3 million to N32 million, depending on the type, size and location.
Investigation shows that the 30 per cent equity contribution had also contributed to why most applicants, especially those in the informal sector, consider the housing scheme unaffordable, hence, the reason for the new proposal.

Speaking at a special interactive session with artisans in the state, which included the transport operators, bricklayers, brick-makers, fashion-designers and others, Fashola said the traders and artisans could conveniently pay for the homes located across the state.

According to the governor, investigations carried out by his team recently showed that most people in the informal sector could also afford the mortgage scheme, going by their monthly income and profit, adding that the ‘Rent to Own’ initiative would further make the scheme affordable for all and sundry.

Urging artisans to apply for their choice homes in the scheme, Fashola said the government would, through the Lagos Mortgage Board, ensure that artisans benefit from the scheme.
He added that the board would allocate blocks of flats to them in accordance with their monthly income and profit to enable them to take part in the scheme.
Fashola reiterated that scheme was meant for the low-income earners who have no landed properties in the state, saying the meeting was meant to educate those in the informal sector that they could also conveniently take part in the mortgage scheme, even than those in the formal sector.

On his part, the state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, confirmed that average commercial drivers make between N45,000 and N70,000 monthly, commending the state government on the new proposal, which he said, would also make the housing scheme affordable to his members.

The Commissioner for Housing, Bosun Jeje, said the meeting was organised to encourage artisans to partake in the LagosHoms, saying criteria would be worked out on the modality of applying for the ‘Rent to Own’ proposal

http://newtelegraphonline.com/fashola-extends-lagoshoms-to-artisans-others/
The state government have provisions for self employed and low income people who can not afford the 30% equity down payment.

Again, don't pay attention to the trolls and bigots running around this thread with their usual ignorance and stupidity.

6. They don't discriminate and your religion and tribe makes no difference. The lists of the winners are are available on the website and it's a clear representation of Nigerian Hausa, ibo Yoruba or whatever.

Put in your application and prove to them that you can afford the mortgage and monthly payments.

Goodluck..

jesuslovesme123: Why direct us to Korea? Why not direct us to the SE instead? Afterall, there is evidence of a plethora of housing estates and "skyscrapers" developed by your ever efficient, non-looting governors.
I wonder why they don't say come to my state ans see what my governor built.

How silly to even compare a state in Nigeria with a state resources with a sovereign nation and sovereign wealth.

What about your own state or even your worthless FG?

Unemadu: Naaa im more of a humanist, i care more about humans than martians.
You care about humans, but you still asked who the governor built the houses for.? You think he built them for goats? Grow up and quit asking silly and childish questions.

If you are going to act brand new, at least keep up with your charade and crookedness by moving threads like the one above to Auto section.

...but of course, Fashola threads and progress gives you the blues and depression.

Unfortunately for you dark minded people, progress is one thing you can not stop or sweep under the rug.

Firefire: Your post is full of loopholes and inaccurate information that has the potential to mislead the general public.

- Recycling of same old stories
- Recycling of same old pictures in the era where you can display when pictures is taken
- Your post is not educative but more or campaign and propaganda.
- And so on…

This is the second time in less than a week..

Are you people not Nigerians or you are too consumed with hate or you are just allergic to progress that even progress in your own country is a mental and physical threat to you?

Like they say, there are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect.

This is why I hate messing with you crooked people on NL...

Sincere9gerian: Thunder fire all APC leaders and APC e-goats if they dont present Fashola as the presidential candidate of APC in 2015 ahead of the likes of Buhari/Kwankwaso. Yeye dey smell.

Meanwhile, besides the deportation saga, I have nothing against Fashola as a PERSON. Yes, I may have criticized him a few times, but that was mostly to counter the propaganda, hate, lies and clannish tendencies of APC e-goats.

Again, I have also criticized Fashola for his penchant for attacking the president unnecessarily of late. I guess he is working very hard to impress the godfathers in APC ahead of the sharing of political offices in post-2015.

Beside of all the above, Fashola is a hardworking fine gentleman, an excellent administrator and one of the best governors in the country.

Definitely, he would have done better if not for the over-bearing influence Tinubu.

What is certain is that while many people are impressed with Fashola, Tinubu is certainly not impressed. Consequently, Tinubu will ensure nothing for Fashola on the platform of APC post-2015.

The possibility of Fashola defecting to PDP after 2015 is very high.
