When asking that we design and build an Automatic Changeover or Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) for you, there is a vast array of options and features that can be added, just to suit your power management needs.

Electrokristron ATS functions can be increased or enhanced by adding extra User configurable options through our special product builder wizard, EPBWiz.

MAIN FUNCTIONS:
1. Automatic power transfer from available source to load or building
2. Automatic Gen control (Gen AutoStart and Gen AutoStop) depending on Mains availability or User command.

TYPICAL OPTIONS YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE:

Power Transfer panels (changeover systems) come in different physical sizes, electrical ratings and functions.

FUNCTION MODULES:
Special function extension modules can be implanted in automatic transfer panels to achieve required function of automation where alternate power supplies are available to be used.

Examples of modules include
(i) Generator Operational Time Scheduling Timer which schedules a generator to run automatically only within specific periods when Mains is not available. It can also be used to alternate the use of two generators allowing the bigger one to run during office hours and the smaller one for non-office hours.
(ii) Inverter Battery Voltage Monitoring System which helps to monitor Inverter battery voltage level during use and which automatically starts the generator when the battery voltage level hits a preset threshold.
(iii) Gen GPRS Control System for remote gen monitoring and control is also another example.

AS:
Auto Start (AS) Panel initiates Generator to start owing to Mains failure. It also provides protection to GenSet with complete and comprehensive operational parameters measurement capabilities such as oil pressure, coolant temperature, engine speed etc.

ATS:
An Automatic Transfer switch (ATS) transfers load/building/equipment to Generator or other backup sources when Mains utility power source fails and back when Mains is restored, according to operational sequence as pre-programmed in the ATS design.
An ATS panel may be supplied with manual over-ride system as well in case of ATS failure.

AMF:
AMF stands for Automatic Mains Failure.

An AMF system comprises of an alternative standard control panel with MCM (Microprocessor based control module) and an automatic changeover system housed in a separate wall mounted or freestanding panel. It has an auto sensing system to start the Generator (Remote start) and switch the load to Generator quickly in case of Mains supply failure and again back to Mains when the supply is restored. It has different kinds of indications and tripping systems in case of errors or overload.

These panels can also be incorporated in the Mains LT (Low Tension) Panels or in Sub Mains Panels. It often allows easy transfer of power without any shutdown or noticeable blackout.

When mains supply fails the AMF (AUTOMATIC MAINS FAILURE switch or panel) monitors and triggers the emergency/backup power source (generator) which starts and build up voltage and within a few seconds transfers power to the loads or equipment under operation.
When mains supply is restored, the generator automatically stops and mains power is transferred to the loads or equipment. You can however decide to disengage the 'Gen AutoStart' switch and engage only the manual switch for manual operation of the generator.

The AMF just like the ATS automatically transfers power to loads or equipment under operation. Some people as well as switchgear manufacturers call it ATS while others call it AMF. They are both for automatic transfer of power.

It is interesting to note that even though there are some basic differences between capabilities, uses and functions of AMF, ATS and ACS (Automatic Changeover Switch), most clients, switchgear dealers and manufacturers will generally refer to an Automatic Changeover unit as an ‘ATS’.

Therefore, for the rest of this course, we shall be using the term ‘ATS’ to generally represent automatic changeover switch systems.
