Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, also known as the Kalabari Kingdom, is centrally located in Abonnema. Within this region, Community Development Service (CDS) is held every Thursday by all corps members nationwide, in line with the mandate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

As members of the NAFDAC CDS group, we undertook various initiatives aligned with the mission of our CDS, utilizing our monthly allowances to serve the local community. This report serves as an expression of our sincere appreciation to the NYSC for the opportunity to serve, and to the Akuku-Toru Local Government Council for their unwavering support and collaboration.

Key activities carried out include:

Outdoor Sensitization Campaigns: We organized health and safety awareness programs, engaging residents directly within the community.
Community Sanitation Efforts: We actively participated in environmental clean-up exercises to promote hygiene and reduce disease outbreaks.
Health Research Initiatives: We conducted in-depth research on local vectors, prevalent illnesses, their causes, and preventive measures.
Study of Traditional Herbal Medicine: We explored indigenous medicinal practices, identifying common herbs, their uses, and potential for integration into modern health practices.
Substance Abuse Awareness: We researched patterns of addiction and chemical abuse within the community, including strategies for prevention and rehabilitation.
