BusinessRe: Sola David-Borha, The Highest Paid CEO In Nigeria Makes N484,931 Daily by elliot777: 5:14pm On Feb 09, 2017
ChangeIsCostant:
According to a viral post by #SplufikNigerians, pictured is Sola David-Borha; the CEO Stanbic IBTC who's regarded as the highest paid CEO in Nigeria. According to the post, she takes home N117m Annually, N484,931 daily....

Until January this year, Sola was the Chief Executive Officer, Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc. – a full service financial services Group with subsidiaries in Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, Pension and Non-Pension Asset Management and Stockbroking.

A few days ago, she was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Rest of Africa, Standard Bank Group.

Stanbic IBTC Holdings is a member of Standard Bank Group.

I have to say i am a little dissapointed at what the highest paid C.E.O in Nigeria makes, there are loads of lower and middle management positions in U.K where you can earn more than that as an I.T contractor, my former direct boss who is an Enterprise architect designer for Lloyds bank earns close to £1000 a day(agreed that's before tax but i am guessing so is the figure allocated to the Stanbic C.E.O too) I work as a contract I.T project manager with barely 5 years experience and if you look up the salary for contractors in this line it ranges from as low as £200 - £800 a day, now consider someone with much more experience especially in a specialist area like SAP you can easily command over a £1000 a day, so for me comparing that to someone who has risen to the level of C.E.O in a top bank in Nigeria i would expect the salary to at least match those of her international counterparts and not to be paid like a regular project manager in u.k who is not even close to being a director talk more C.E.O
C.E.O's generally get paid millions of pounds especially bank C.E.O's and if you consider that with the exchange rate, 1 million pounds is over N500,000,000. then you will understand why i am unimpressed that she is the highest paid in Nigeria, for a regular C.E.O its fine but for the highest paid, i think for a country as big as Nigeria it just shows our banks aren't exactly all that when compared with their other international counterparts even though Zenith bank keeps advertising day in and day out on CNN, its obvious not much business goes on in these banks except hustling for depositors funds or Government looted funds.

Check my previous posts.

I supported Buhari. I voted for him.

But before you childishly call me a 'wailer' or any of the childish tantrums that I read on NL, and other social media pages, may I implore you to please note the following:

1. The elites (ruling class) laugh at our foolishness every time we label ourselves 'wailers', 'Ipob', 'Afonja' etc.

2. The goal of the elites (ruling class) is to make money/acquire power for the benefit of themselves/family

3.The elites (ruling class) do not give a damn about their ethnicity or religion when they share our money.

4. If the elites (ruling class) make money/acquire power for themselves/family without giving a hoot about each other's religion or ethnic group, why can't we collectively focus on the goal of having a better Nigeria without focusing on our differences?

Having said that, it is important for me to emphasise that I voted for Jonathan in 2011. I only voted for Buhari because Jonathan failed. PERIOD.

But now, Buhari, in whom I invested my hopes has shamefully failed. The next 2 years of his tenure CANNOT change the 2 years of his failure. He's just fundamentally ill-equipped to govern any 21st century country.

I don't care about Tuface's intentions. The mere fact that he wants to provide a platform for people to express their dissatisfactions is a wonderful idea.

I support the protest , and will always support any platform that Nigerians can get to tell the state and federal governments that THEY HAVE FAILED US

Brilliantly written and eloquently presented, your brief write up just mirrors my exact sentiments and anyone who does not agree with this post is the exact reason we as a nation are a failure and the earlier we try to dump this attitude of tribalism and in-fighting among'st ourselves while the elite take turns to rape us all of our birth rights the better for us, because while we call each other names and denigrate each other based on our tribal or political affiliation the politicians are busy scheming up new and better ways to keep stealing what is meant for the overall development of our country and sadly we help them out by justifying their actions and fighting each other while ignoring the fact we are essentially slicing of our noses to spite our face, and there is only ever one winner as that happens and that is the Elite and never just the average Nigerian.

Good morning nairalanders.

I have this problem of sweating profusely for long now, i easily sweat and I sweat real bad, a slight change in room temperature I start sweating, I cant even go out when it's hot cause it's embarrassing you walking and you the only sweating, even in evenings I still sweat, I am tired of this, it's just embarrassing, just imagine talking to someone and you wiping sweat of your face almost every second.
I cant wear one shirt twice cause of sweat, I have to always wash my stuffs everyday cause I totally hate any form of smell, this is just frustrating.

#argggh

Please help me nairalanders what can be done?
I had the same problem bro, its called hyperhydrosis, the best cure is a roll on called driclor, you can google it and see if they sell it where you are and if not ask any of your friends in England to get you some, it works like a miracle, you just apply it last thing at night after a shower before going to sleep to your hands and armpits or even your feet, i wouldnt recommend the face but if the room is really cool you can apply a little to your forehead, you would feel a slight sting after the first couple of applications but would stop shortly after, in any case thats only a small price to pay for the joy of overcoming the sweatiness embarassment.

Ridiculous design not fit for this times, and iam sure its technologically backward aswell, the problem with nigeria is just how much mediocre changes impresses us as a people and i would have said it was understandable as we have a very high rate of ignorance and illiteracy in nigeria, but what does bother me is the fact that a lot of people that have got access to the internet and the global world evidently who comment on this thread have no excuse for that sort of ignorance because not ever leaving the shores of Nigeria is no longer an excuse as they can use the internet to see how developed countries live and what standards we ought to be looking up to, we ought to demand more from this people and stop treating them like they are doing us a favour by taking a break from their embezzlement to engage in some mediocre project thats a far cry from what civilized societies are currently engaging in.
The shoddy finishing is visually evident and i dont know if its just me but that is one small building considering the amount spent on it, anyway Nigerians should wise up and speak up everytime this leaders try to whitewash us with dodgy over inflated projects expecting praises from everyone.
PoliticsRe: When Will Nigeria Be Motivated To Positively Outdo Other Countries by elliot777(op): 12:31am On Sep 05, 2012
MRbrownJAY: the fact that you want Nigeria to "outdo" other, instead of try to achieve similar stuff on a lower scale, is the reason why Nigeria will always fail.
nations around the world have a minimum of 20yrs head start (and i am generous) in every field/subject on earth....and here you are talking about Nigeria outdoing these countries. do you even listen to what you are saying.......how can you even comparegood ol' 9ja with Russia?! even with all the Oligarch in that country, the country is going places and can rival many in countless fields.

as for Nigeria, apart from 419 and corruption, i dont see any other areas where the country is blessed to the point of rivalling with other nations.
MrbrownJAY I am not suggesting Nigeria should try to outdo Russia or the United states but even if that were the case, I fail to see whats wrong with that, the fact another country has had some years head start ahead of you does not mean you cant catch up or super-cede them, look at Nigeria for example, we used to be known as the giant of Africa with the Malaysians coming to learn about the whole palm oil trade from us, Ghanaians trooping into Nigeria in droves in the 70's and 80's and different industries springing up on our shores but look at us today in comparison to these countries, also remember what happened to japan after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings by the Americans, who could ever think at the time that they would be at par with that same United States in this our lifetime after such a disaster but they could only achieve that by collective effort and the overall desire to develop all the sectors of their economy and not be seen as peasants by any country, the desire to rise from the ashes and show the world that despite the obstacles they can compete with the very best.
My point simply is that contrary to your opinion we shouldn't just sit back and accept the status quo that we are a third world nation with no possible way of being able to compete with the developed nations of the world which I personally believe is a mindset borne out of inferiority complex and is something the african nations suffer greatly from.
Any Government in the world can only deliver varying fractions of what the people long and clamour for and never all or more than it, so if all we as Nigerians ever want is something as basic as electricity, water and good roads what would happen is when a president or state governor comes into office and does a very small percentage of these extremely basic things, we sing his praises and only complain about the ones that do next to nothing, and that is how the politicians manage to get away with robbing us blind and no one is bothered to do anything about it, I was in Nigeria last year for the Christmas break when it was announced that the price of fuel would increase to unimaginable amounts and I automatically knew this was more than ridiculous and there was no way the average man could survive that, to my surprise people took to the streets and protested it hence the govt had no choice but to revert their position on the inhumane fuel increase, so basically if we as a people set a high enough standard for ourselves and the government then it would be a lot more difficult for our leaders to sit in office and not do a little of the very high expectations set for them by the people rather than a little of the very low expectations we have come to accept as ok.
If you consider the the most developed western countries one thing that's a constant is the constant demand for more from their governments, as much as we sing Obama's praise songs in Africa, he isn't just sitting pretty in the white house resting on his laurels, he constantly has to deal with criticisms from his citizens and fellow politicians because of the drive for more to be done, if it were Nigeria or some country in west Africa that was gifted with such an intellect as a president, the minute he successfully passed the Obama health care bill he would have achieved rock star status and been told to just relax and that he had done enough.
Nigerians need to stop thinking and expecting so little from these politicians, we all know about all the looting thats going on which is denying us all the dividends of democracy but we sit back and do nothing but murmur amongst ourselves about it, If our mindset where to constantly strive to outdo developed nations in the world(which mind you is very possible just check brazil or india's ranking amongst nations and you would know what i am talking about) we would know that our current snail speed at the so called socio-economic development is unacceptable and we would be moving a lot faster. We should strive to set a high enough benchmark for our leaders and we would be surprised at what we can achieve as a nation and that starts with expecting and demanding more of our politicians. That's how the developed nations of the world came about, we shouldn't sit back like beggars with no pride waiting for alms and expect any tangible development, it needs to come with a desire to want to emulate in some ways or outdo a much more developed country and that's how we can have a quantitative measure of how well we are doing as a Nation.

i was watching a documentary of discovery science channel and I felt proud of america's achievements and motivation for scientific development here is a short description of what i remembered of the start of the documentary.

The soviet union led to an early lead in the space race when it launched the first artificial satelite, on october 1st 1957 spudnik went into orbit and the U.S were so upset, they said THESE PEOPLE CANT BUILD A REFRIGERATOR HOW CAN THEY GET INTO ORBIT, how did this happen!! to beat the soviets NASA would have to put a man into orbit but only rockets could go fast enough more than 27000 km/h and they dubbed the program PROJECT MERCURY and it gathered a team of determined scientists and engineers and they needed to figure out how to fly a military missile with a man on top, and at the time no man had ever survived a vertical blast off on top of a rocket so the risks were extremely high so at first even considered stuntmen for the job, the suggested people like evil knievel but President Eisenhower said he'd rather have military test pilots, so they tested the pilots they had and 110 of the military's best pilots qualified and NASA selected the top 7 dubbed the MERCURY ASTRONAUTS
1. wally schirra : A man of detail and made the best text book flight of them all
2. alan sheperd: extremely smart
3. Scott carver: the first scientist astronaut
4. Gordon cooper: The best pilot of the bunch
5. Deke Slayton: Nobody messed with and a great human being in every way
6. Gus grissom: engineering savvy
John glen: A civilised man and probably the most level headed.

I had a conversation with a friend a while back who had just opened a gas station in Nigeria, he said he got regular visits from officials of DPR (department of petroleum resources) whom part of their duties include acting as watch dogs to check excesses of the gas stations but believe it or not, they were on his case trying to force him to doctor his fuel pump so he never really pumps out the expected amount of fuel paid for at any point in time just like every other station, and the reason for that is simply so he can have a little extra profit to bribe them every now and then when they pop in for their settlement. PoliticsRe: Nigeria & Russia Commence Nuclear Power Generation Programme by elliot777: 12:10pm On Jul 19, 2012
tpia@:
why arent you ready for it?

any particular reason?
We are one of the richest countries in Africa yet nothing works, we do not have good roads or electricity while majority of the countries in Africa do not even have that problem, our Govt can not succesfully manage anything from sports infrastructure to media or communications and all the public services can best be described as a den of thieves, although to an extent i can understand why nigerians think things are ok and we arent doing too bad because they have not had the opportunity to live outside nigeria and compare the nigerian way of life with the way things are meant to work under a normal functioning system, which is why the ones most angered by the excesses of the nigerian govt most times is those of us that live outside nigeria in europe and america etc
The problem with nigeria is people are actually buying the deception that we are actually developing when in essence we lack the basic framework for that to happen, we are simply a consumer based set of people with a very narrow mind scope which again has to do with the govt imposed poverty which should never have been, due to the vast amount of resources available in Nigeria so we end up with a large majority of nigerians that lack innovation as a direct result of being ruled by succesive govts who lack vision for its people. How do you explain a country that does not have a fully functioning R & D department with absolutely no plan for the brightest minds in our country, instead we wait for the U S or any other forward thinking country in the west to snatch them away with impuity on various scholarship programmes and harness their knowledge for the good of their country, and those are the ones that even have the opportunity to get some level of education before being discovered, so just imagine how many inventions we could have had if we cherished our top scholars and fought to keep them while fully funding whatever research they needed, (iam sorry i had to deviate a little) but my point is simply that nigeria has unprecedented issues and we can best be described as an infant with no worries about the future at all because all the developed countries of the world are all about planning, preparing and building their cities and economies for the future so when you talk about nuclear power, we ought to leave such a volatile subject in the hands of the people that can and are equipped enough to handle it, the only problem is that even those countries are running away from nuclear as only 3 days ago the residents of japan took to the streets to protest against nuclear power due to the fukushima nuclear plant disaster.
My advise to the nigerians in support of this nuclear endeavour is to do some reading up about past nuclear accidents and maybe that would fine tune your thinking.

Can anyone verify if etihad airways would be operating any services from manchester straight to lagos as that would only make sense since their club manchester city is based in here manchester and there are loads of nigerians in manchester who are tired of travelling via amsterdam or france before reconnecting a flight to lagos or even going all the way to london just to get a direct flight.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria & Russia Commence Nuclear Power Generation Programme by elliot777: 4:12pm On Jul 07, 2012
This thread just sums up †нє short sightedness of nigerians and how succesive govts have managed to loot our treasury blind with fragrant impunity, how can any educated person suggest that nigeria in its current situation should dabble into nuclear generation when even †нє united kingdom have serious reservations about it, there has been countless deliberations about safety due to d volatile nature of nuclear energy and nigeria as we know it can't survive mere natural disasters †нє likes of hurricane katrina in new orleans that would stretch †нє emergency services of †нє most developed countries to its limits, meanwhile people actually believe that involving russia makes its ok ansd acceptable to put nigerian lives at risk and in †нє hands of †нє russians because they have managed to succesfully implement and maintain a nuclear generating programme in their country? Seriously nigerians need to sit back and think about this nuclear issue very well because no nation that cares about †нє welfare of its people ignores †нє risks associated with nuclear energy and delves into it when they have a non existent emergency service, let's think about what our emergency protocols are in a situation where †нє worst happens like what happened in japan, can †нє govt succesfully evacuate people from their homes in time and provide alternative accomodation? Or are we so inept that we can't take reference from †нє russian chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986, that entire region was evacuated since then and is still inabitable till date.
Anyway my bottom line is that developed countries have managed to provide electricity to their citizens for many decades without using nuclear power so we ought to start from there and @ least walk before we attempt to fly. Thats just my opinion, and i should add that abuja occupants and anyone around †нє proposed nuclear plants should protest against this for †нє sake of their childrens lives incase there's a leak which is inevitable.
