Christianity EtcChoosing Jesus Over Denominations by Emahope(op): 8:35am On Jan 11
Have you ever felt a quiet tension in your faith? Not a doubt about God, but a confusion about His family. That moment when someone asks, “What kind of church do you go to?” and you hesitate, knowing that your answer might come with a label, a set of assumptions, maybe even a wall. If you’ve ever looked at the beautiful, complicated tapestry of Christianity with its hundreds of denominations, traditions, and styles and wondered, “Where is Jesus in all of this?”… then this message is for you.
So often, our journey begins not with Christ alone, but with a version of Christ, wrapped in a specific culture, practice, and theology. We become Presbyterian, or Pentecostal, or Catholic, or Non-Denominational. And these communities become our home—they give us family, structure, and language for our faith. But sometimes, without us even noticing, the label can become louder than the name it’s supposed to represent. We can become defenders of a tradition more than disciples of a Person. We can know the nuances of our denomination’s stance better than the heart of our Savior. What if the most radical, unifying choice we can make isn’t about finding the perfect denomination… but about deliberately, faithfully choosing Jesus above them all?
Choosing Jesus over denominations does not divide the church; it actually brings true unity. When Christ is at the center, believers from different backgrounds can worship together, serve together, and love one another deeply. Colossians chapter 3 verse 11 reminds us that in Christ there is no division, but “Christ is all, and is in all.”
So today, choose Jesus. Choose His voice over human opinions. Choose His love over religious pride. Choose His truth over traditions that divide. Let your faith be defined not by a name on a building, but by a living relationship with Jesus christ.
Because in the end, it is not about denominations. It is about Jesus and He alone is worthy to be followed.
