BusinessPracticality Of Independent Power Gen Through Solar Farms by emekad2(op): 2:59am On Jun 10
After reading the below
https://dailytrust.com/consumers-need-200-solar-panels-to-sell-electricity-to-discos/
I thought it was a good idea from a regulation perspective but how practical is it from a commercial perspective for independent solar farm operators?
First you only get power credits not physical cash
Second cost of maintenance and future repairs are not priced in
Third 200 solar panels without an evident ROI incentive and feasible practical time to ROI in the information makes the offer boring.
Nigerians have learned to do self service in infractures and other investments that belong to the province of government. In many local governments and some communities they build roads themselves, contribute for security themselves and many times do market cleanups by community efforts.
Why don't the government or discos tap into this community spirit?
I was thinking to read something like:
1. Get engineers to a community, estimate the best case power needs from solar inverters
2. Call the community leaders, especially in estates and gated communities. Tell them, see, all hands need to be on this together. Power generation has become a matter of life and death in Nigeria. We need community support. From our estimate your community needs 20 Kwv of solar power that can last 18 hours (rough estimate) and your estate has 500 apartments. It will cost 30 million to get it done. If each apartment pays 60k naira within a year we ekedc can create a solar farm for your estate, employ 2 power engineers to man it 24 hours and you get your power needs solved. Make your community needs and project.
3. After the solar farm is installed for just the estate we take off from there and maintain it from the revenue your prepaid meter gives to us.
Then they do regular checks that everyone has a prepaid meter, no one is shorting the meter like a common criminal etc.
It's a win win for everyone especially the discos. They reduce expenses and increase their revenue.
The only caveat are poor neighborhoods. Maybe after 5 years they use the revenue earned as extra to provide same for poor neighborhoods.
It's a big win for the discos and it gets numerous solar engineers patrolling the streets instant jobs while the engineers for the discos go for retraining.
I don't understand. We have everything in place.
Or don't we like money in this country? Is it only control, control and power we like?

That's a lesson for him.
The issue on the ground now is that some AI, like Mythos, can exploit even the hardest uncrackable flaw in any software. The banking industry and cyber security experts in America wants it banned. Even if it's banned it can go underground. So people are cautious with all these AI stuff.

Anytime you post this kind of trend always give out fun details cos most of them do go back just 2-3 month later cos they can’t cope with lack of good health care and some of them who decided to run to Canada still run back to u.s cos of expensive housing obviously house in Canada are more expensive
Leave America, live big elsewhere and when things pan out, run back home. So the circle continues. It's not worrying. Inflation, high gas, etc. Europe is cheaper for Americans. And Mexico.
ProgrammingRe: Where Are The Systems Programmers? by emekad2: 2:15pm On May 12
Just to add my 2 cents.
Robotics is bigger than AI but no one hypes it.
IoT devices are a bigger subset than AI. Acurast is taking advantage of it slowly. That's where C and C++ reign. If you want jobs you can do yourself in your spare time with peace if mind, look for embedded systems programming. Web Dev won't give you time for family and all that stuff.
At least that is why I believe C and C++ are regaining interest.

PoliticsRe: Crashing Food Price Would Make Farmers Poor - Peter Obi by emekad2: 5:38pm On Feb 28
Crashing food prices will make farmers richer if market driven and not some military show of force. I don't think Obi said this. It must be AI. Every dick and harry knows that. Haba! Crashing food prices opens more markets for farmers and increases their incomes. Why do you think poultry is so cheap in the developed world? Now every African country imports from them, importing even eggs!

Running from Stocks may be like running from Fortune

@Gabriel411, I'm very sure your advice is because of your perspective on stocks/equities.
Please understand that categorising investments into low, medium, or high risk does not mean one is better than the other. The purpose of these categories is simply to help investors understand what is involved before committing their money to any investment instrument.
All investments are good in their own way. Choosing where to invest depends on several factors, such as your age, risk appetite, investment objective, available capital, and level of knowledge.

For clarity, stocks and equities mean the same thing — the terms are used interchangeably. Apart from Money Market Funds (MMF), every other type of mutual fund carries varying levels of risk.

Globally, investment in good stocks has proven to be one of the most reliable and rewarding long-term strategies. Why do you think Forbes evaluates the world’s billionaires based largely on the value of their equity holdings?

That said, I always advise beginners to start with MMFs, build confidence, and then gradually move into stocks if their risk tolerance allows it.

When we say stocks are risky, it doesn’t mean your money disappears overnight. For example, someone who invested ₦45,000 in Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in 2025 and now has about ₦120,000 in less than a year would strongly disagree that stocks should be avoided. At the same time, it’s also possible for ₦45,000 invested in 2025 to drop to ₦10,000 in 2026 — that’s the nature of equities. Patience and a long-term approach are key.

I know an investor who bought Okomu Oil Palm Company shares many years ago at ₦38 per share. The stock later dropped to ₦12 per share, but he didn’t sell. Today, the price is over ₦1,000 per share — not to mention all the dividends he has received over the years.

One thing I’ve observed is that people who don’t fully understand how stocks work often condemn them outright without proper knowledge.

If many of us here truly understood how the stock market works, we might shift more attention there.

That said, always do what you are comfortable with — but also understand that what feels comfortable is not always what is best for long-term growth.

As Warren Buffett famously says:

Rule No. 1: Don’t lose money.
Rule No. 2: Don’t forget Rule No. 1.

Long-term investing, discipline, and knowledge make the difference.

Making money without tears is our goal!
That Warren Buffet quote it's just a new way of turning the principle of capital preservation around. Every accountant knows that it's just they can't talk to the street.

BusinessHow To Start Esusu Business by emekad2(op): 5:52am On Jan 28
Good morning all,
Is it possible to start Esusu business with the several fintechs in Nigeria now?
And if it is viable, how can one do so?
I searched online and was told there are three ways: starting a cooperative with local government, or registering an esusu with CAC or registering an esusu with payment ability with CBN. Please which is more easy and offers more opportunity?
Calling on all the wise men in the house for help.
Thanks

Food4 Burner Oven Gas Stove Or 2 Burner Table Gas Stove by emekad2(op): 4:26pm On Aug 28, 2025
I went to the market and a dealer told me a 4 burner gas stove with oven was 230,000.
I had budgeted 120,000 naira and was disappointed.
My girlfriend told me to go for a 2 burner table gas stove. The portable type. But I am afraid of their durability and I have not used one before.
I checked online on Konga and saw a thermocool for like 60,000 naira.
Now am undecided.
As a single guy, should I go for the table 2 burner gas stove? Will it last or serve my needs?
Thanks

EducationRe: Mathematician Over To You? by emekad2: 5:00am On Aug 18, 2025
Question: is it maths or accounting we're doing?
answer: sequential maths or maths on the number line.
Why: the phrase: he buys it back, so that means it's continuous addition and subtraction.
That's why the answer is $10.
If it was accounting, the answer would be $20

I have this question that's troubling me. Just need help.
If am a lawyer and I don't agree or validate a lifestyle, do I have a right to defend it?
For example, if a lawyer was a Christian who believes that adultery is wrong, should he or would he be compelled to defend a client who committed adultery and wants to justify himself before the court? Would that cause ethical problems for me as a lawyer? I really don't know the answer to this question. Need help.
BusinessRe: Wetin Be The Difference Between "Motivation" And "Inspiration" ? by emekad2: 10:27am On May 21, 2025
Motivation actively comes from you to someone
Inspiration, can be active or passive, comes to you through some other artefact like a book, an artistic work, a speech etc.
TV/MoviesRe: What Exactly Is The FCCPC’s Role In A Free Market? by emekad2: 9:28pm On May 13, 2025
If the price of an egg is $1 in America and $0.50 in Nigeria, does it mean eggs are cheaper in Nigeria?
If DStv is $29 in Nigeria and in Kenya $89, does it mean DSTV is more expensive in Kenya?
Did you consider purchasing power parity? And how demand and supply can be factored by population and subscriber base? There are a lot issues involved. You need to present the full argument between both sides before concluding.
Please be objective.

CultureText To Speech For Yoruba by emekad2(op): 5:16pm On May 08, 2025
Hi. Good afternoon all. Can someone help1
I am learning yoruba and found learning at my own pace and curriculum is more helpful and natural.
I am using gemini since google translate already has yoruba language. But I have one caveat. You cannot learn a language silently but you need sound. Gemini and Google Translate cannot speak yoruba but only write it.
Does anyone know of any site online where one can find text to speech for yoruba?
Would be very grateful. I found one, tts yoruba, but the speech is horrible. Even I that knows kinkili yoruba knew the speaker did not say the words correctly grin grin
Please help
