unemployment everywhere
Exactly my point! Because they know staff will do anything to keep their job, they just keep quiet and say "sorry ma." No wonder our staff abroad need re-training and CVs/education reassessment.

Its hard to get a job in Nigeria, yes we know. Even to get a call for a test is not easy. But when are treated like your years of schooling does not matter, questions need to be asked. Nigerian firms are fond of riding on the employer-based market of Nigeria to rub in job-seekers face, the horror and tension that comes with job seeking. No other firm is guilty of this than KPMG Nigeria. Good firm, good people but like every company, some malignant elements head some strategic unit which on the long run gives the firm a bad image.

I was opportune to be in the KPMG Nigeria building last month with a client and I chilling by the water dispenser on the 1st floor (I understand its close to the HR unit). Apparently, one of the HR staff was overwhelmed with work and was not turning in a deliverable fast enough, the Head of HR walking past uttered a statement to the staff I just can't bring myself to type here.

I have heard horrible stories about this firm, green fancy building from outside and I find it hard to believe the horrible stories. If the head of HR can belittle her staff, what kind of workforce is she building Don't get me wrong please, this is not just a kpmg issue, all firms in Nigeria have this bad culture and if the change campaign going around should be taken seriously, our executives need to change the way they talk, act and recruit. With what I heard from her that day, I would rather join Accenture or Deloitte than kpmg!
