The recent study throws a significant light on the generation that thrives upon social media, constantly seeking a sense of validation with the likes, reacts and comments. As per the findings, overuse of Facebook may lead to a more sad and unhealthy life for the users who check their Facebook profile all the time are likely to be more sad and unhealthy than those who use it sporadically. Every now and then one can read reports around the ill-effects of social media addiction, yet many choose to continue to live by their facebook addiction. The commonly cited reason is that it provides a good break from their mundane life, however this new study reveals information that might shatter this popular notion. Researchers from Yale University and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), studied and analysed the pattern of Facebook use and mental health of 5,208 volunteers between 2013 and 2015 for the study. The study that appeared in the American Journal of Epidemiology and was led by UCSD's Assistant Professor of Public Health Holly Shakya and Yale's Nicholas Christakis, who is Director of the University's Human Nature Lab,found that increased use of Facebook could be closely linked to the compromised social, physical and psychological health of the user. The study further revealed that the users who were constantly updating their profiles or liking posts more than average, were more likely to have mental health issues. |

In the past couple of days, Minister of Transportation and immediate past governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been inundated with calls and enquiries from journalists about a purported award/honour to him from Nyesom Wike, the current governor of Rivers State. The minister was shown a publication of the Rivers State government indicating his name as one of many others to be given awards by Nyesom Wike. But as at today, Amaechi has not received any communication from Nyesom Wike and/or Rivers State government in this respect. Be that as it may, we want to state categorically that whatever Wike claims to be giving to Amaechi is a poisoned chalice that has been unequivocally rejected by the minister. Firstly, the purported award itself is a contradiction of monumental proportions, a contradiction that can only come from a warped and perverted mind. From day one as governor, Wike has made it his sole, one-point agenda to attack, abuse, insult and falsely denigrate Amaechi, his immediate predecessor and erstwhile benefactor. Since he became governor, Wike spends most of his time making reckless, deeply irresponsible malicious, false allegations against Amaechi, as he attempts, albeit fruitlessly, to malign and destroy the outstandingly superb performance and legacy of Amaechi in Rivers State. So, what is the bases or criteria for Wike to give an award/honour to a man he (Wike) has rashly attacked and called all sorts of unprintable names in the past two years? For Wike to do a 360 and give an award to a predecessor, he (Wike) has consistently but misleadingly and deceitfully called Satan, Judas, non-performer, thief and only this week a sponsor of cultists, shows evidently that Wike suffers from a grave but rare form of psychosomatic malady. Secondly, what will Amaechi tell Rivers People when he goes to collect an award from that man-child who sits in Government House that is directly or indirectly responsible for the present deplorable state of sufferings, economic and infrastructural decay, violence, crime, insecurity, kidnappings and killings in Rivers State. Amaechi will not accept any award from a petty lowlife conman, who rode to power on the blood of Rivers people. Thirdly, the office of governor of any state is a prestigious, very dignified office and the occupant of that office who holds it in trust for his people is expected to act, talk and behave responsibly and decorously. When the governor talks, he should talk with facts and must be able to prove his claims. Most unfortunately for Rivers State, Wike possess non of these qualities. Wike is everything a governor should not be, with virtually no redeeming qualities. Amaechi will not accept any award from this kind of lying, reckless, irresponsible and brutal character that has become the laughing stock of the nation. Finally, We will not relent to remind Wike and insist that he must go to court, like he vowed, to prove his frivolous claims that the over $43million Ikoyi money and luxury apartment (found by EFCC), belongs to Amaechi and were stolen from Rivers State by Amaechi; or be ready to face the wrath of the law at the appropriate time; the wrath of the people and ultimately the wrath of God, which no constitutional immunity can protect him from. The only other alternative is for him to publicly apologize and tell us that he wickedly and maliciously lied when he had that disgraceful, middle of the night press conference to push the false narrative that Amaechi owns the money and apartment. According to him, the board has been busy reviewing the recorded footage of the utme exam across the country and a number of candidates will be punished. “Those who have not received their results are qualified not to receive for now. In all cases where there were no problems, we released results of the examination within 24 hours. “But those who have not received their results, they may not be culpable but we are investigating. Where we have reason to doubt anything or where we have report of anything that is not acceptable to us, we have withheld the results. “And we will keep on releasing them as we clear them. For instance, this morning, we released another 15,000 results. But among those who sat in that centre, we have reasons, concrete evidence to say about 300 of them, their results will not be released because we know they were not in the hall where the examination took place.” “We are comparing those who sat for the examination, how long they sat in the hall, and how some of them took excuses that they were going to the toilet only to go to what they called VIP. “All this we are now able to track. And we want to say that we will not hesitate to sanction anybody no matter how highly placed.” He stated. |

Most of the applicants from the first batch of the Npower programme, have been having issues with their monthly stipends of N30,000 after their verification online and in their Local Government Area of residence. Some candidates have lamented on non payment of their stipends from December 2016 till date. While others has received their payments up to date. We have received lots of comments from most of the Npower candidates, especially on the post of Npower disqualification of successful candidates. We sympathize with those candidates that were disqualified from the Npower programme and those been posted to LGA’s far away from their place of residence. It is painful that candidates who went for their LGA verification were not attended to. And when it comes to payment of monthly stipends some candidates were paid and others were not. Some of the excuses that leads to disqualification due to incorrect details are as follows: >> Mispelt bank names >> Wrong date of birth >> Wrong Bvn number >> Incorrect account details >> Wrong phone number >> Wrong Email address etc No state has the right to disqualify you on the basis of age, except you filled in a wrong age during the online registration, which does not tally with the one in your WAEC. To solve this issue, get a court affidavit of your real age. Most of the Npower candidate’s accounts has been changed by some greedy individuals. This is done by changing the bank account details so that when the stipends comes, it will be diverted to their account. To solve this, try to change your login details. Some candidates were shortlisted online but when they got to the verification point, their names were not found on the list. To resolve this issues, visit the Npower website www.npvn.npower.gov.ng and chat up with the online npower officials, stating your issues as; * Not paid Your Npower programme you applied for or selected into * Date of your verification * State * Local Government Area If the reply you get from them is not satisfactory, you can email them using the formt below: • Your full name • Date of birth • Account details • Phone number • Email address etc. Send it to selection@npower.gov.ng or call the helpline: 08145569572. |
Below are major reasons why Jamb change of course is necessary. 1. Not Scoring Up To Or More Than Jamb Cut Off Mark Every Jamb candidate usually have the dream of scoring above 300. However, this doesn’t work for everybody in reality. If you scored less than the general cut off mark for your school of choice, you will not be admitted. On the other hand, If you score around the Jamb cut off mark, you may also not get admitted as a result of competition. This is a good reasons to change your course or school of choice. 2. Lost Of Interest In The Study Course Or Institution Some candidates say, “I don’t want to study in the University I chose earlier, in fact, I have lost interest in the choice of course I put in during Jamb registration.” This could be that you never liked the school or your parents asked you to change the course. In addition, it could just be that you have a Jamb score that can take you to a better school. 3. You Made A Mistake When Filling Jamb Form And Subject Combinations So many persons reported to me that the wrong institution was chosen for them during registration. For others, they had issues in their Jamb subject combinations and could not fix it when Jamb gave room for correction of details. If this is your situation you may want to change to your desired institution. Change of course and institution form gives you room to do this. How To Change Your Jamb School And Course Of Choice For Jamb 2017 As usual , Jamb has announced the date for commencement of 2017 change of institution and the forms are now made available for sale. You can now proceed to change your course. According to the Jamb news update we received, this process can only be done at the accredited CBT Centres. Before you head out to check if this process has started at an accredited CBT Centre around you, please ensure the following; That you know exactly the Changes of Course/Institution you would like to make changes to. Please ensure you do your research to ensure that the school you are changing to does not usually cut-off higher than your score. That you can change one or all your courses/institutions at the same time. That once the form is submitted, you can no longer make any changes again (or else the system has changed) That you select a Course/Institution that aligns with your subject combination. If you don’t do this, your school will screen you out. There may be a limited number of schools or courses you can change to, so be sure to have 3 or 4 options, just in case the one you want to change to is not available. You could be charged about N2,500 to effect this change Jamb change of institution 2017 would be done at approved cbt centers through your Jamb profile . |
South African doctors successfully performed a second penis transplant, the first time in the world that the same doctors conducted such an operation. The transplant was performed by a team of doctors from Stellenbosch University and the Tygerberg Academic Hospital, both near Cape Town, according to a statement from the university The recipient, whose name was withheld for ethical reasons, is a 40-year-old male who had lost his penis 17 years ago due to complications after a traditional circumcision. “He is certainly one of the happiest patients we have seen in our ward. “He is doing remarkably well. There are no signs of rejection and all the reconnected structures seem to be healing well,” said Andre van der Merwe, Head of the Division of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS). The marathon operation, lasted nine and a half hours at Tygerberg Hospital, said Van der Merwe, who led the team. The patient is expected to regain all urinary and reproductive functions of the organ within six months of the transplant, the statement said. Jimmy Volmink, Dean of the FMHS, called the operation “a remarkable ground breaking procedure” which is testimony to the high level of skill and expertise that exists in the public health sector in South Africa. “Also of considerable pride is the team’s ability to balance compassionate and ethical patient care on the one hand, with a concern for the efficient use of scarce resources on the other,” he said. The world’s first successful penile transplant was also performed by Van der Merwe and his team at Tygerberg Hospital on December 11, 2014. “About two years later, the patient “is doing extremely well, both physically and mentally”, Van der Merwe said. “He is living a normal life. His urinary and sexual functions have returned to normal, and he has virtually forgotten that he had a transplant,” said Van der Merwe. Penile mutilation is more common in South Africa than elsewhere in the world due to complications of circumcisions performed as part of a traditional rite of passage to manhood on young men in certain cultures. There is no formal record of the yearly number of penile amputations due to traditional circumcisions, but one study reported up to 55 cases in the Eastern Cape alone. Experts estimate that as many as 250 partial and total amputations take place country-wide every year, with suicides also being reported.(Xinhua/NAN)

Your success in life is a function of people that you hang out with. What you will meet in life is a function of those you meet. That is why you must never miss who you should meet. You cannot be successful if you are not around certain persons. It is your hunger in life that should determine your hang out. Hang out with people who are the pictures of your future. This will help you to be featured in the actual future. Success requires some process, and one of the processes is that you hang out with people. You must try to meet as many persons as possible because you never can tell those who will help you succeed. Here Are 5 Persons to Meet if You Want to Be Successful In Life 1. The Mentor Without a mentor, you will face so many tormentors. Mentors are those fortunate people who have already accomplished what you’re trying to do – not only once, but quite a few times. These people will have the experience, intelligence, and knowledge that you don’t currently have. They will help you acquire valuable insights simply by simply having fruitful discussions with you. 2. The Expert One of the most powerful ways of increasing your brand’s visibility and tapping into the local market is to meet with people who have a good reputation in your industry’s niche. Meet people who are already experts in the area you want to go into. They will make it easy for you to succeed. The journey is too far that you may end up a leper if you want to do it alone. 3. The Peer Meeting with peers is also a good idea. However, they won’t have as much experience as a mentor or an expert will. But they’re trying to accomplish the same thing you’re trying to do, so it’s nice to be able to talk with someone who is in the same boat as you. Because they’re on your level, you’ll have to rescue them and they’ll have to rescue you too. You’ll learn to work together and find solutions for common problems. Having someone to share these experiences with will form the basis of a great lifelong friendship. Also, if they’re in a similar niche, their networks and connections will be helpful to you as well. 4. The Local Talent The local talent is some kind of expert in some aspect of your business or academics. These make the best collaborators and employees. You can find these individuals sitting in a university, starting their own business, or working under some other entrepreneur. 5. The Investor If there were no investment, nobody would have taught of harvesting. There are destiny investors, they help to multiply your result. Until you meet destiny investors, it will be so difficult for you to harvest. Therefore, to succeed in life, you need investors. Meet as many people as possible, in as many contexts as possible. You don’t know who is going to give you money, when they’re going to give you money, and where you’ll meet them. So meet lots of people, and always be friendly, respectable, and open. You will surely be successful. |
