Don't even bother, you won't receive any mail from steemit
This is what you should do:
1. Using your browser got steemit official website and click on register
2. Click on Pay to sign up and a modal window will appear
3. Click on blocktrades
4. The rest is intuitive once you are on blockstrades, I believe
5. just send an equivalent of 2 steem which is approximately $1 in either Litecoin, Ether, Dogecoin, Dash etc depending on the one you have
