Two people started a business at the same time and sooner, it was realised that one was working too hard and wasn’t getting the results equivalent to the work she was putting in. The other person, on the other hand, was working hard and was really prospering. What was the difference? Proper branding and marketing of your products/services are important for you to make great sales. However, it costs a lot of money, especially when you have to hire professionals to do it. Here at SME Classroom, we understand how the perceived high costs might make you want to abandon the marketing and branding activities necessary to grow your business, but you shouldn’t have to. This is why we are organizing the DIY Marketing and Branding Workshop for SMEs. We want to empower small and medium business owners/employees with the necessary marketing and branding skills that they can deploy by themselves to grow sales exponentially. The SME Classroom is a 2-day class and you have the liberty to choose which one you want to attend or both. The facilitators at The SME Classroom are industry experts whose results you may have enjoyed in one way or the other through various media channels. The topics to be taught include: A guide to defining your brand and target audience by Fredrick Akinmuyisitan, Easy ways to build visual identity for your SME brand by Uduak Akpan, How to carry out market research as an SME by Cynthia Agada, Marketing hacks and channels that SMEs can adopt by Emeka Obia and many more. To register for the workshop and for more information, visit jko.com.ng/sme

Getting started is usually difficult for some people and that's why personal branding is no child's play. It is easy to fake certain things but going that route doesn't last and won't pay off. That's why the start of personal branding starts inwardly. WHO DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SAY YOU ARE? Create the image of the future you and write it out clearly. STEP 1 Self-awareness is the first step toward building a personal brand. Know thyself! This has to do with your reputation. - What do people know you to be? - Who are you? No one knows you except you. - How do you want to be perceived? STEP 2 Tell your story and live it. You have to show who you are. How you do everything defines you - eat, play, talk, walk etc. Ensure that your story is attention-grabbing, relevant and memorable. STEP 3 Build a community. Deepen your relationship. Remember that you are in the market to impact and it is your job to stand out. It is your job to do your job really well. A brand always starts with a value then proceeds to have integrity. Show up every day to communicate and listen to your audience. This personal brand guide is a sure resource to guide you - http://joyeneghalu.com/personal-brand-guide What step(s) are you currently taking to build an irresistible personal brand?

You are not entitled to a place here. You earn it. To earn it, you have to intentionally build a brand that can attract people to stop and listen to you. Personal branding has increasingly become a must because you have to make people understand what sets you apart from the rest. Through your personal branding, people start to understand your personality, your values, your message, your lifestyle and that's how you begin to build a community. Everyone - good or bad is a brand and we all stand for something. A quick test to know what you stand for is to write out what you think about yourself and also write out the qualities of the future you. Then ask your close friends around what they think about you. This will help for a start. So why do you need this personal branding? What the fuss about it though? 1) It provides a way for the right kinds of people and opportunities to find you. 2) It gives you the opportunity to put your best foot forward and build your reputation. 3) It will differentiate you from people who do similar work 4) It provides you a reason to spend time figuring out what's important to you and what you hope to do professionally. 5) You have gifts to give this world and building your personal brand provides an efficient means of gift delivery. 6) You earn more as a personal brand. People with a strong and powerful personal brand earn 10 - 25% more than those who don't. Are you consistently living your personal brand every day?

One of the things I enjoy about being on the island is the diverse form of hangouts I get to attend. There is a hangout with focus on food, another on movie, games, business, another for professionals, fashion and so much more. As a business owner, there are times I get to fight to have my sanity back. Not physical fights but a mind battle. There are days when I want to scream and ask "Who sent me to do this?". There are days I just want to quit. There are days I don't want to set my eyes on anyone. There are days I have a conversation with myself and just say " Keep on girl". Truth is, there are days for many things. As a business owner, you have a thousand voices in your head and with these voices, you MUST make the right decisions. One of the ways to always calm the nerves is to look for extra curricular activities and engage in them. Golf, book reading, movies, board games, travel, dance, sing etc. No one says being a business owner or being an entrepreneur should be boring. Truth is, sometimes we don't even know we need a break. Sometimes we feel there is too much to do that engaging in these things will be a waste of time. But I say, "Calm your nerves. Your future, body and mind will thank you" To that effect, CI Space will be hosting a game hangout for BUSINESS OWNERS or ENTREPRENEURS or FREELANCERS. It is completely free but registration is very compulsory. If your name isn't on the list, no entry. You can connect and build a network even while relaxing. Date: June 23rd, 2018 Venue: CI Space ( 78, Bode Thomas Street, Surulere.) Time: 10am To register: www.creativeiman.com/event/game-meetup/ Don't forget to come with your business card though!

This post is inspired by a seminar I attended and we discussed about entrepreneurs who are virtually into every sector. Like you meet someone and they tell you they are into architecture, make doughnuts and sell eggs. It can be quite confusing because they do not connect and it is just obvious that it’s all a hustle. From the seminar, I learnt that African women are more into business for survival and their businesses hardly thrives. Quite sad. There is a clear difference between being diversified and being confused. The above scenario clearly sends the message of being confused. For all we know, you might as well start a laundry service next month. Read more here: http://imodelafrica.com/diversification-or-confusion/

How much as a Nigerian do you yearn for something genuinely different from the mainstream music, tune and melody we are all getting used to? Do you typically get bored of the kind of tunes churned out everyday? Well, someone is here with a difference.Born in Lagos and living in London, please meet the latest sensation in the Nigerian music hemisphere, Bimbi Philips. Passion borne out of the immense love for music and art, the ingenuine musical act combines melodiously two genres of music, House and Afrobeat, and his rendition keeps you spellbound. Directed by Luke Biggins and UK Based production outfit MasterMind Media, Bimbi Philips is here with a banging, spanking freshly-baked music video to his hit single “Its Bimbi” for his already growing fan base both home and abroad. Because of his undying penchant for professionalism, Bimbi has left no stone unturned in these highly engaging visuals. However, we wonder what connection there is between this artiste, his dancers and that weird African character with heavy make-up and accessories, who keeps popping up in our faces. Follow up with BimbiPhilips via social media @BimbiPhilips on Instagram and Twitter. The music “ Its Bimbi” is produced by GateHouse Music; mixed and mastered by Nigeria’s very own, Tee-Y Mix. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAk8rb8yHqQ&feature=youtu.be

She was nothing but a bread seller. She wasn’t noticed. She was broke and needed to sustain herself and her kid. She left her comfort zone, her husband and her first child to the city of Lagos to find her daily bread. Bread? Well, she started bread. She was making a profit margin of N300 to N500. No matter your situation, it is always important to find a decent way to make money. She would easily resorted to being on the streets or look for one maga that will pay the bills. But she chose to go to the bakery and get breads to sell. Well, today Jumoke is trending. She made it to the hashtag world. #Olajumoke Very soon, a movie or a song will be made in her name. Who knows? She might be the one to replace Toolz in every lyrics. Read more here: http://imodelafrica.com/9-lessons-you-should-learn-from-jumoke/

I was about going on my first love journey. I was young, naive and happy. I felt different for the first time. I felt I had arrived. I was ready to sleep in a Celine Dione room and wake up in the John legend style. I had fallen in love into a trap. Fast coward to a couple of months, I became the largest producer of pure tear water. What happened to love? What happened to all the promises? **rolls eyes** I guess they went on an errand. My tear production was on Val’s day. More here: http://imodelafrica.com/love-on-a-memory-train-happy-valentines-day/

So it is another day today on radio. By 8pm, we will be discussing a very interesting topic. Today, I witnessed two very good looking fine bobos knocking the day light out of each other. I decided to do a mini amebo business and I was told that the finest bobo was owing the other. I thought to myself 'Couldn't they have handled it any other way?' Well, today I want you to call in or tweet and tell me how you would have handled the situation and possible things that might lead you to hitting a brother or sister because of money! You know our usual ritual, call 09054771808 or tweet @imodelafrica_ #iModelAfrica and your tweets will be read. To listen, simply follow this link: www.imodelafrica.com/live Talk to you soon. Cheers.
