I can also read some people's mind. See the level of happiness and anxiousness. But don't forget, you might not know the numbers of course(layers of block) especially when you are dealing with an Architectural Drawing) for a house plan...Check from the Architectural drawing and go to the title page where you have section, and check for the height. So assuming we have the height of 3meters. How many course is that ![]() Remember heigh of a block = 0.225m and don't forget their is an horizontal bonding known as the bed in between each block layers(refer to Picture 3 for better understanding of bond, bed, etc). Let assume the thickness of the bed to be 25mm = 0.025m. : Total Height of a Block + Bed = 0.225+0.025 = 0.25m Now since the assumed height of our building = 3m, divide Height of building by 0.25m(height of block). 3÷0.25 = 12course/layers. Simple Just go ahead and use your cheat method. |
Here Comes The Almighty Cheat. For any block related project, to get the total numbers of blocks needed, just follow this: * measure and get the total distance in meters ** Divide it by 0.475 *** Multiply by the number of course(layers of blocks). **** Then you have your answer. |
Somebody would be like with all this calculations, these still does not look like a cheat or simple method for people with little or no mathematical background. Yes. It is a cheat. Recall Standard length of 4", 6", 9" blocks = 450mm = 0.45m and also remember the height of the said blocks are 225mm= 0.225m... These length and height are fixed. NB: Since our assumed bond thickness for a good bonding and for a nice grip is about 25mm = 0.025m, Therefore the total length of a block = 0.45m + 0.025m = 0.475m, which is approximately half of a meter, but in this case, we won't do the approximation so we don't short cote. |
Length In Meter Approach Tackling the second method. This method would work very well when dealing with fence, hall, auditoriums, + with good application for any partitioned structure so far you know the number of course or (block layer) you are going. |

It is however important to get it right in the design stage to avoid chaos in the building or construction stage. Its important to know that the more exotic or customized your design is, the more your costs will go up. Just make sure you get everything well defined and in detail so you know the level or standard of finishing, for example, what kind of floor and wall tiles you're getting, type of kitchen cabinet, fittings, etc. Don't just go with the lowest price or cheapest contractor because you may find yourself spending more to upgrade things or make corrections later. When you take sensible approach to budgeting by setting a firm and realistic figure for the project before the design stages begin, you are moving towards the part of success and absolutely nothing can stop you. Be Prepared. |

We promise to go through this course considering two methods. The method above is the comprehensive and detailed method known as the the Square Meter Method. I decided to take us through this method first before I teach us the cheat method which is also a very easier and short method. |
