fattyboy02: House,
I am looking for a good engineer that can advise me on what actions to take on a recently built house that's showing major Cracks around the fence, compound floor and some inside the building.
Please drop your contact and I'll reach out or just email Mrfamo@famoinc.com
Thanks. Minor cracks(shrinkages) might be different from what you call major cracks. You might have to reach us via our signature so as to send pictures of the challenges while we advice you better. Thanks. |

Abdomox: Good day,
Please what's the length of 10mm iron in Nigeria.
Thank you. All irons be it local or foreign regardless of the thickness ranges from 11.5m - 12m(Approximately 40ft).(equivalent to the length of a long shipping container). I hope the info was helpful. |

Thanks Eng... Please I want your advice here, please is there any disadvantage of using the triangular type of rod tieing for lintel as against the square tieing I will like you to understand first that lintels could also be a structural member in a building design. Lintels are most times not heavy load carrier even though they act similarly to beams (roof beam, deck beams, etc) Their major purpose is to provide an horizontal platform or base for the block work across windows and doors. Permit me to remind/tell you that lintel could be made of any material(timber, reinforced concrete or steel) depending on the style, span or purpose of design. If a lintel is a part of the structural member(most times as seen in frame structures), it is important to follow the reinforcement arrangement to detail as it is done by the structural engineer. It is important to also let you know that the ring spacing/distance is also very important. The only reason why a triangular ring would be chosen or preferred over a rectangular/square ring is to reduce the numbers of runners from 4 to 3. e.g from 4Y12 ----> 3Y12 and also drastically reducing the loading in high-rise buildings. I tried as much as possible to use layman's language in explaining this. I hope it was a helpful. Thanks. |

Takoro13: This is the original plan.
What do you have to say sr. Just take note of all the above listed points. The attached files/pics are not so clear. Thanks. |

Takoro13: Thanks sr
I want to introduce perforated block up above the lintel before ceiling and share light from masters room toilet.
Yes I can swap dinning for kitchen as you said.
My main concern is that the plan looks like face to face building plan. Looking through the passage, you discover what I mean.
Please can you criticize the first one sr. Though there are some adjustment there also Introducing perforated blocks will not work out the magic. Perforated blocks are most times limited to exterior/external use for so many reasons(I won't go into details here). Now to your first sketch: Your sitting room failed the aeration and light test. Why would your laundry share wall with kitchen, why do you have to go through the kitchen to the laundry? Your kitchen do not have an emergency exit door, why? The list of why seems endless. Work on your designs. They are not functional. Thanks. |

Takoro13: I want you people to help check and make comments on these two adjusted plans as am preparing to start small thing here. I actually do not have enough time to peruse your floor plan(sketch) well. The second seems better and a bit functional. But can you tell me how you intend to throw light into your laundry room(15). I also don't know why you have to journey that far from the living room to the dinning. You can make a swap for the dinning and kitchen. Actually so many things to be corrected and adjusted. |

educhigo: please brothers and sister urgent advise needed actually i'm not in nigeria for long time i base abroad, the topic is that i buy one plot of land in delta state asaba condition tile.deed of agreement and survey plan,i have settle the community fence and fix gate on it,but i am still afraid of someone go ahead sale the land again,i'm very worried about this When last have you visited or sent someone to do that for you? People even sell lands and houses with good documents here in lagos. All you need to do is get an agent (it could be a trusted family member) to give you periodic feedbacks. When he or she is on your site, do whatsapp video call so your mind can be at rest. No one would buy a fenced or gated land(on padlock) without thinking twice. If that is not a good option, start building. Don't give yourself too much stress. I hope that was helpful. |

This formular does not put to consideration openings. In your best interest, use only for calculating fences, halls, auditoriums, warehouses, etc with little or no openings. It could however be used for calculating partitioned buildings and structures with openings if the above processes are well followed to detail. Consult professionals for big project to safe your time, energy and avoid errors. When height of fence, wall or building is given, use:
N = (L/0.475) X (H/0.25) remember to follow BODMAS.
N = Number of blocks unknown L = Lenght of proposed fence in total H = Height of wall
When height of fence/building is not given but number of course/coaches is known, use :
N = (L/0.475) X C
N = Number of blocks unknown L = Lenght of proposed fence in total C = No of courses/coaches. |

Opeoluwaadewole: How many blocks will be needed to fence 600sqm of land. Also I want a quotation for putting up a fence on 600sqm with 600mm raft foundation. Kindly let us know the proposed height of your fence, from which we can deduct 600mm which is the reinforced concrete section considering the depth or with an assumption that all the 600mm is a substructure, then we can calculate the block section. The Cubic Meter(Cum)of concrete would be used to tell you tonnage of cement or number of bags, granites, and sand. Marine board or facial board, reinforcement(rod) would also be detailed for you. Kindly refer to our signature below for a better service. Thanks. |
