Nigerian music has advanced through the years. In this budding industry we have two classes of music stars. The first are those that have chosen to carve a niche for themselves by singing ever green songs with meaningful lyrics. The second are those who rely on the beat and watered down lyrics to make their songs enjoyable. The later most times does better than the former because Nigerians supposedly love to dance and aren’t really interested in the lyrics. We disagree with this. In 2013, one of the biggest songs out of the country was KCee’s Limpopo. A lot wondered what Limpopo meant. Was it some sort of dance step? Did it have a sort of sexual connotation? or Was it simply gibberish that the artist made up because it went with the beat?

First off, before we tell you what Limpopo is, lets analyze the lyrics. Kcee sings in this song;

Baby make we go limpopo,
Oya limpopo,
Baby make we go limpopo,
Cos you know the koko,
So make we go limpopo,
Oh yeah, tonight, oh tonight

Judging from what Limpopo really means, the lyrics would have probably made some sense but a recent newspaper interview with Kcee, leads us to believe even Kcee doesn’t know what Limpopo means. He probably heard it as a random word from someone and though it sounded cool. Check out what Kcee told a popular Nigerian News Paper that Limpopo meant.

Kcee, ‘Limpopo’ crooner has revealed the meaning of his song’s title. He said “Limpopo just means ‘let’s have fun’. It’s a ‘feel good song’ and I really appreciate how my fans have so quickly taken to it.”

Well, Kcee, lets help you out here. Limpopo is a a provincial Government in South Africa. It is located in the North West region bodering Botswana. Check out the picture below:


Now, if he had stuck to the excuse that Limpopo was a place in South Africa, his lyrics would have made more sense. “Baby, lets to a place in South Africa.” Alas, just like the rest, he went with the “lets have fun” excuse.

To all other music stars fooling us with you lyrics, better do you research well because we are watching you.

A lot of Nollywood acts have dabbled in the world of music. You know, Omotola, Jim Iyke, even Ramsey Nouah. One notable act that has also tried her hands at music is Actress Genevieve Nnaji. In 2006, she put out the video to her song “No More” and Entertaining Africa has the video right here. Check it out below. Who knows, maybe now that she and D’banj are an item, a remix of “No More” should be expected.

My favorite part of her blog is how she always finds the two celebrities wearing the same outfit. Always interesting to see how two different personalities and body types would interpret the same outfit. She does divert a bit to other news but the reason I visit is for the fashion.

If I were to have an online fashion magazine, the covers and photo shoots is close to what it would look like. They also have a lot of “Get the Look” for those who are or aren’t so fashion savvy. If you are like me that is as casual and “I no send” as can be, their get the look may be a good place for you to start getting style conscious.

I would have loved to see an entire website dedicated to just weddings like bellanaijaweddings dot com or something. I love seeing Traditional weddings, what Nigerian Event planners are doing in terms of creativity, decor etc. I’m a hopeless romantic so hey, you never know the wonderful idea one can get for a traditional wedding. Via bella naija weddings, I have penned down some names of wedding planners that I would recommend to myself . *wink* *wink*. shhhhhh!

Its also good to encourage these entrepreneurs because doing business is not easy. Also you can visit to see maybe you can stumble on ideas. Hey, the sky is big enough for many birds to fly.

I am part owner and the direction we are taking it is basically your number one stop for Entertainment in Africa. You can watch recommended movies, music videos, TV shows, read Celebrity Profiles, News and once we have our next meeting and conclude on 2014′s direction we will most likely include music and movie reviews etc. Anyways its worth a visit, not because I said so, but because the vision is a good one. Entertaining Africa is looking for volunteer entertainment writers, though I am not in charge of that aspect of things, if you have interest, send an email and someone will holla back at you.
