A man identified as Mohammed Sani, a bricklayer in Abuja, has been arrested by the FCT Police Command for allegedly having carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old boy in the Mabuchi area of the city. According to Punch metro, the victim, who is an apprentice at a mechanic workshop mentioned that his friend introduced him to Sani. He added that whenever Sani had sex with him, he would give him N20 to buy biscuits and would warn him not to tell anyone about what transpired. Mohammed Sani, the Bricklayer The victim said: “When I was at the workshop some months ago, my friend told me to come, saying someone had a job for us. When I got to the man’s place, he took off my clothes and raped me. “After he had finished, he gave me N20 to buy biscuits. He told me that if I told anyone, he would beat me. “After that day, he continued to do it with me. Sometimes, he would give me N20, while some other times he would give me N30.” The victim told our correspondent that the suspect sodomised him many times between March and July. However, nemesis caught up with the suspect last Thursday when the victim returned home late and could not explain to his mother where he had been. Speaking to our correspondent, the mother of the victim, Mrs Yakubu, said she did not know that her son had been a victim of defilement for several months. On how she found out, Mrs Yakubu, said when her son returned late from the workshop, she asked him where he had been and why the clothes he wore were different from the ones he put on when he was going to work. Mrs Yakubu, who is a widow, said, “Usually, my son closes from work at 6pm and whenever he leaves the shop, his master would call me to inform me. So, I waited for hours for my son to return home. “He came back around 10pm, and when I asked him why he was just returning home, he said he had a very busy day. “I also noticed that he was wearing an oversize pair of trousers. When I asked who gave it to him, he said it was one ‘uncle’. So, I punished him and asked him about the relationship between him and the ‘uncle,’ but he initially refused to speak.” The victim’s mother said when he could no longer bear the punishment, he confessed that Sani had been sodomising him and had threatened to kill him if he exposed him. “I was disappointed in my son because he used to tell me things. I never expected him to be so secretive,” the widow said. Sani, who is married, said it was the devil that pushed him to do it. The bricklayer said he was ashamed of himself and asked his young wife to forgive him. “I cannot really explain what came over me. I was not like this before,” he said. When our correspondent asked him if he was defiling the young boy for spiritual reasons, the suspect said no. The suspect’s wife, while speaking to our correspondent, said she was disappointed. Mrs Sani said even though she had not given birth to any child for her husband, he was patient with her and wondered why he would indulge in such an evil act. Police investigations, however, revealed that Sani might have defiled other young boys in the area. A woman, Sefia Panshak, also mentioned that she believed her 10-year-old son might have also been defiled by the alleged bricklayer paedophile. The boy, however, said the suspect used to hug him. “The man only used to hug me and give me N400 whenever he sends me on an errand,” the boy said. The spokesman for the FCT Command, Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the incident adding that investigations were ongoing. He said: “I can confirm the incident. Investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.” source- http://www.amebonline.com/2018/08/bricklayer-engages-in-sex-with-11-year.html. |

When something is wrong, you just knew it was wrong. Your guts tell you; that compass in everyone that pointed your moral nose in the direction of ‘run’ or ‘shut the hell up’. Or in the direction of ‘wake up’. Someone was touching her. She had been dreaming of being swallowed by a dark thing with wings. But she slept on with the snug realization of knowing you were dreaming in a cozy bed while it rained outside. So when she felt the clammy run of flesh sliding up her thighs and that dream of a cavernous mouth waiting to swallow her fled in an instant, she opened her eyes. The ceiling fan turned lazily because the voltage was so low. The single light bulb is shown like a very ripe tomato. The muffled sounds of heavy breathing drifted to her. Too close. She felt hot air on her neck. She turned her head slowly to the side where the bed met the wall to see the round face of her cousin Andrew. — The first time Adeola saw something come to an end right before it began she was 16. Adetutu, the eldest girl of the family was getting married that morning of September to her fiance of five years. Their modest home in Sagamu was filled with people who had come to be a part of it. Adeola didn’t know most of them. There was her uncle, an important person at a university who had come with his wife, a raucous tall woman everyone called mama show. Then there was their two boys, very handsome boys who looked like their mom. There were also an assortment of others; nephews, aunts and their in-laws. Friends too. “I don’t like that boy,” Adeola told her elder brother Shola. “Which one?” “That one.” Adeola pointed out one of mama shows son. She and her brother were sitting by the caterer, slicing onions for the rice. The boy stood by the entrance into the house. “He is our brother, Bolaji,” Shola said. “I know. He has been following me around.” Shola looked at her sister and shook his head. His friends always talked about her in school. There’s a piece of paper still in his school bag from a classmate who thought Adeola was the most beautiful girl he ever saw. He had forgotten about the piece of paper until now. “Maybe he wants to know you,” Shola said. “Know me?” — Adeola was getting her Asoebi from the room she shared with her elder sister soon after. She had gone around the house in several detours trying to lose his stalker, Bolaji, and had come into the room without being noticed. Outside the room her sister sat under the hands of her friends who were applying makeup to her face, getting her ready for church. Adeola got her clothes as quietly as she could. Bolaji may just be outside the door. And she was right. She went to the door to see if the coast was clear or she might just go out the back again, and there was Bolaji waiting. She went back in. She sat on the corner of the bed. She got up and went over to the large mirror where her sister always stood to admire herself. Maybe Bolaji thought she was beautiful too. John in school always told her she was beautiful. He sometimes stalked her too. He tried to put his around her waist the other in school. Adeola had pushed him away but soon wanted him to fry again. He didn’t. But John had stared at her all day – the same way Bolaji has been doing since yesterday when his family arrived. It seemed that all the boys he knew wanted to touch her. All of them except his brother Shola who was himself preoccupied with pictures of kemi, the house help in the next compound. Adeola smiled thinking about the night she caught her brother talking to the girl in a dark corner in the backyard. John tried to take her to the backyard too. Adeola looked at herself, wondering what it was about her that made the boys obsessed with her body. John always joked about her nose. They were her dad’s nose, pointed, aquiline. Or maybe it had something to do with her hips. Her sister always called her ‘omoge omi’ —water girl. She placed her hands straight beside her. Her hips were a round bulge under her gown. She heard her sister and her friend talking. “What! You slept with him again?!” “Ssh don’t shout.” Her sister whispered. Adeola tiptoed to the door. She could see the outline of her sister seated on a small bench and the two friends standing in shock. “Wait, yesterday??” “Yes.” Said her sister. “You went to his place? And you did it with Kunle, again?” “Are you crazy, Tutu?” “Today is your wedding and you went and..” “I don’t love him.” Adeola heard sister say. Who didn’t her sister not love, her fiance or the Kunle fellow? Who was Kunle? – Adeola witnessed her sister exchange vows with her husband 3 hours later on that Saturday in September. Her sister Adetutu danced with her husband at the reception. Her friends took pictures with them in a celebration that went on into the night. A night that would stay with her for most of her life. That was the night Bolaji, her cousin touched her. “Have you done it before?” the handsome boy had asked in a hushed tone. Adeola shook her head slowly. The boy let his hand feel his way up to her panties. His hands were cold. Her bed was warm. Outside, it rained. Her sister wasn’t here anymore, she was now in her husband’s place. Or was she at that fellow called Kunle’s place? The rain had started not long after the adults who had been having a good time outside the room turned in. Adeola, so used to sharing the room with her sister, had forgotten to shut and bolt the door from inside. She had expected her sister to do that when she turned in herself. She wondered how long his cousin had been in the room with her. The thing her sister did with Kunle, was that what Bolaji wanted to do with her? Bolajis cold fingers had found their way into her panties. His fingers caressed the hair. Adeola recalled the first time she noticed the hairs. But it was not as foreign as the first trickle of blood. In time she came to love the little tufts. The monthly ritual of blood still needed getting used to though. Adeola’s body twitched, the muscles in her inner thighs contracted, Bolajis fingers were stroking a part of her that she had only read about in her biology textbook. Adeola wanted the boy to stop. She knew something was wrong about the night. But she also wanted him not to stop. She closed her eyes and thought about her sister. Somehow, a part of her told her that they would be seeing her soon and not because she came to visit but because there was someone called Kunle. She felt Bolajis lips against hers and her eyes flew open. She stiffened. Bolaji stopped touching her between her thighs. “You are my brother.” She said. The room was plunged into darkness that moment. The power was out. Adeola wanted to see the boy’s face, to see his reaction. She reached out to touch him but he was not there. She heard the sound of his feet as he left the room. Rain pelted the glass windows, they made a lulling sound that reminded her of the choir in Church. The practice session when they hummed to warm up. Joseph, the choir leader once asked her to be his girlfriend. She was ten at the time. Joseph was embarrassed when she told him she was 12. Joseph, 19, had always thought her older. He hadn’t been able to look at her for a while. Adeola curled up in the bed, listening to the rain outside and missing her sister. She felt a curious wetness in her panties. That was a new one. A month later, her sister was back home. The marriage had ended. source- http://www.amebonline.com/2018/07/shocking-emotional-story-runs-girl-in.html. |
Sexual harassment is a type of employment discrimination consisting of unwanted sexual advances, sexual conduct, or other verbal or physical actions of a sexual nature, usually at the workplace. Sexual harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature and can be anything like offensive remarks about a person’s sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general. How Do you File a Sexual Harassment Complaint? Sexual harassment in the workplace is illegal under state and federal laws. The typical procedure for filing a sexual harassment claim is as follows: Write it Down: Make sure to write down the details of the incident, possible witnesses, and gather any physical evidence that could help your claim. Review your company policies: Your employer should have mechanisms in place that allow you to make a complaint through the human resources department of your company. Report to Supervisor: If harassment continues, you must report to your supervisor. If the harasser is your supervisor, report to someone higher or to the HR department. If the harasser is the highest-ranking individual in the workplace, report to the HR department or any other management personnel. File Complaint with EEOC: The first complaint you need to file is with the EEOC. The agency will investigate your claim and may take action with your employer to provide for your remedy File a Civil Complaint: If the EEOC does not resolve the issue, you may have to file a lawsuit in civil court. This will require you to provide evidence in support of your claim, such as written statements or witness testimony. You should be prepared to take several steps in connection with your sexual harassment claim. Most state laws require you to “exhaust the possible remedies” before you can file a lawsuit. In particular, filing with a government agency such as EEOC is usually required before you can file a civil lawsuit. What Are the Different Kinds Sexual Harassment Complaints? The different types of sexual harassment claims: Hostile Work Environment: This is where there is an overall environment that is offensive towards a person or a particular sex. This may involve one worker making remarks, or a group of people creating an inappropriate atmosphere. This is a common form of sexual harassment “Quid Pro Quo” Sexual Harassment: This occurs where another worker, usually a supervisor, requests sexual favors in exchange for benefits like a pay raise or promotions. Understanding the different forms that sexual harassment can take will help you when filing your claim. Some employees may actually be able to file a legal claim, but end up not doing so because they don’t understand the definition of sexual harassment. What If I Was Fired or Penalized for Filing a Sexual Harassment Claim? Firing or penalizing an employee because they have filed a harassment claim is also illegal. This known as “retaliatory discharge” or “employee retaliation,” and is prohibited by state and federal laws. Retaliation is any action taken by an employee or a company against an employee because he or she filed a sexual harassment complaint. If you were fired or penalized in retaliation for filing a claim against your employer, in addition to the sexual harassment complaint, you may also have a claim for retaliation. If you are able to prove that your employer retaliated against you because of your complaint, you may obtain remedies such as being reinstated to your former job position, and obtaining back wages for the pay that you lost. Do I Need a Lawyer for Sexual Harassment Issues? Filing a sexual harassment claim can often be intimidating and sometimes challenging. If you feel that you’ve been subject to sexual harassment, you may need to hire an employment lawyer for assistance with the process. An experienced employment lawyer can guide you on how to file a sexual harassment claim. Source- http://www.ipcook.com.ng/how-to-file-a-sexual-harassment-complaint/ |
When an injured person seeks monetary recovery after a car accident or other incident causing physical harm due to the negligence of others, this will always involve a personal injury ‘claim’ but not necessarily a lawsuit. In most cases, a lawsuit is filed only after an initial attempt has been made to settle the personal injury claim with the insurance company of the person at fault for the injury. There may be some cases in which the injured person’s attorney will file a lawsuit immediately, by-passing the injury claim process. This can occur in situations where it is likely that the insurance company will deny liability, thereby making settlement negotiations fruitless. In other cases, the filing of the lawsuit can assist the injured person in making a claim against his own insurance company, utilizing the uninsured and underinsured portion of this insurance policy. Claiming money damages for auto accidents can be very complicated, and it is always beneficial to have an experienced and thorough Coeur d’Alene ID car accident lawyer to receive maximum compensation, regardless of how the claim proceeds. Personal Injury Claims Personal injury claims are normally filed with the appropriate insurance company first, depending on state insurance laws. For car accidents in “no fault” states, the injured party will first submit personal injury claims to their own insurance company, which then decides whether the claim is valid or not. In “at fault” states, the insurance company of the negligent party to an injury claim will be responsible for covering damages. Premises liability injury claims can be different in terms of how the parties are assessed in any state, but the concept of personal contribution to the injury by the injured claimant is still a part of the process (sometimes referred to as ‘comparative negligence’). All insurance companies have the authority to investigate a personal injury claim before paying any benefits, and many times this can result in a claim denial or a low settlement offer with a requested full release of future medical coverage. This is why it is never a good idea to handle your own personal injury claim without an attorney if the injuries are serious. Lawsuits Lawsuits arise from personal injury claims that are denied by the appropriate insurance company, or from cases when the insurance company may be negotiating in bad faith. Experienced personal injury attorneys understand insurance bad faith tactics and will pay close attention to how the company is responding to certain aspects of a personal injury claim. There could be much more financial recompense from a lawsuit when certain fact patterns suggest intentional acts by a defendant or their insurance company. In order to demonstrate ‘bad faith’ the plaintiff’s attorney must first prove that the denied claim was a valid claim that was denied by the insurance company without sufficient reason or after inadequate investigation. In most states, faith claims can only be brought against the injured person’s own attorney, not the insurance company of the at-fault driver. The plaintiff’s attorney must establish that the injury occurred to the plaintiff, and it was either the direct or indirect responsibility of the defendant. In addition, the plaintiff’s attorney must prove that the defendant owed a duty of care to the plaintiff and that the defendant breached that duty of care. Trials Once a lawsuit is filed, the case will be scheduled for trial if it does not settle. In some states either the plaintiff or defendant can request a trial date. In other states the court, on its own initiative, will schedule a trial. Typically insurance companies will move a case to trial if it believes that a jury will be hostile to the plaintiff’s claim. Plaintiff attorneys will ask for a trial date if the insurance company is making ‘low ball’ settlement offers. If the jury awards a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, in an amount that exceeds the dollar limits of the insurance policy, the defendant may be able to sue his own insurance company for ‘bad faith.’ Typically, the defendant will assign his right to sue to the successful plaintiff, who can then pursue the bad faith claim against the defendant’s insurance company.
