Education / 8 Tips For Travelling On A Student Budget As A Student In Russia by enustu: 11:43am On Jan 20, 2018
♦️Do your research

Compare as many websites as possible, and if you can, track pricing for at least a month to see when the prices rise and drop. By the end of a month, you’ll know what the going rate is for your flight. My favourite websites to compare flight prices are momondo.com and skyscanner.com, both of which you can set to send you “price alerts” to your e-mail when the prices drop significantly so you can get the best rate.

♦️Be flexible with your dates

This one can be tricky for students, as we typically only get a couple weeks between semesters. But changing either the outward or return date of your flight could save you hundreds of dollars. Flying Monday - Thursday tends to be much less expensive than Friday - Sunday, and might just make the trip worth it for you.

♦️Keep your mind open to new destinations

On skyscanner.com, you can type in your home airport and available travel dates, and then put your destination as “everywhere”. It then lists the cheapest destinations for you to go from your home airport! Perfect for an impromptu getaway. For us Vancouver travellers, my new favourite website recommended to me is yvrdeals.com. You have to be fairly flexible with your dates, but it posts new deals all the time on flights out of YVR to just about everywhere. The best part, the research is done for you. It tells you the cheapest dates and website to go through for your trip! And in my opinion, some of the most exciting travel locations

♦️ Limit food spending

Eating out is exciting in a new country - you want to try all the delicacies and eat like a local. Trust me, there’s no one who loves stuffing their face with foreign food more than me. But eating out for every single meal and snack of the day takes a huge hit on the wallet. If you are staying in a hostel or an airbnb, consider making use of the kitchen provided for at least one meal of the day. I personally like to hit a supermarket when I first arrive and buy breakfast foods and snacks for the time that I am there so I only spend money on lunches and dinners while I’m out.

♦️Those boots are made for walking

Travelling can be exhausting. But what adventure isn’t? Flights are already expensive enough, so I try and limit my spending on transportation wherever I can. Taxis are always a no-go for me. When the drivers see that you’re a tourist, the majority will rip you off big time. Public transportation is great for airport transfers and if you have a limited amount of time and a bunch of tourist spots you need to see quickly. However, I often find the quirkiest spots in cities and get the best feel for the culture and people when I am walking around a city (it also helps burn off all the pastries you just had to try at that last bakery).

♦️Mind the conversion rate

This one may seem redundant, but I know too many people who just look at prices in foreign countries and pretend it is in Russian Rubles. Don’t do it.

♦️ Hostels aren’t scary

There is definitely a negative stigma around youth hostels - either that they’re dirty, creepy, or a 24/7 frat party. While there are cases of all of these problems, the great majority are clean, safe, and quiet. In my opinion, they are one of the most fun ways to stay in a foreign city. Benefit #1 is that they’re inexpensive. Score. Additionally, they are a great way to meet new people, especially if you’re travelling solo. They are often placed in convenient, central locations in cities, and offer fun nights out or sight-seeing excursions for their guests. Whether you’re a hostel-avoider or a hostel-connoisseur, reading the reviews of your hostel beforehand is a must-do to make sure you make the right choice for you.

♦️ FREE WALKING TOURS

Almost every city has companies that do free walking tours every day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Book your space online beforehand, show up at their meeting point and get taken around the city for a few hours by a local tour guide!Although they are free of charge, it is expected that at the end of the tour you leave a small tip for the tour guide, but you can be the judge. Now go jetset, and still be able to afford to stuff your bag with souvenirs

Education / Healthy Eating In Russia On A Student Budget by enustu: 3:41pm On Jan 13, 2018
✔️Plan your meals
This is the most basic strategy, but so essential. Start by planning your meals weekly, then work up to bi-weekly.

Save time and money by planning ahead, cutting out last-minute grocery runs, last-minute purchases, and all that time spent wondering what to cook for dinner tonight.

✔️Choose your own adventure
Try at least one new recipe every week. This keeps spark and variety in your meals, letting your small-budget intake feel fancy.

This helps keep cooking fun and is a great idea for all ages. Have your partner, roommate, or child pick new countries or regions, or just do it for yourself.

✔️Splurge on eating in, not out
Splurge on grocery items, not on eating out. This goes hand-in-hand with choosing your own adventure in the kitchen. With better-quality options at home, you'll be more likely to cook at home rather than going out for dinner.

✔️Stay classy
Stick with simple staples, whole foods (nix the processed), and fresh produce for a basic meal that feels decadent. Our staples are chicken, fish, rice, grains, noodles, and greens. Start with greens and add chicken, pasta, nuts, dried fruit, and other vegetables for a fancy salad, or serve small portions of meat and starch with fresh veggies, fruit, and cheese. Rub white meat or seafood with lemon juice, fresh garlic, and cracked pepper for a favorite seasoning that's cheap but feels fancy.

✔️Process your own food
Instead of buying processed foods, make your own versions of sometimes expensive staples like cereal. Homemade salad dressing is another staple that is simple, luxurious, and cheap, as it uses ingredients you already have in your pantry. Try homemade granola with milk or yogurt and fresh or frozen fruit for a breakfast that's equal parts filling, beautiful, and easy.

✔️Pick your sweets wisely
Swap prepackaged baked goods with high-quality chocolate, naturally sweet fruit smoothies, and simple ice cream (check the ingredients for ice creams that are mostly milk, cream, and sugar). High-quality desserts go a long way: Cut out excessive and empty carbs and go for options that are pure but still feed the cravings. Besides, it's an accepted scientific fact that dark chocolate is good for you. It's right up there in my food pyramid next to water, feta cheese, and fresh peaches.

Education / African Student Leads English Club At Ukhta State Technical University. by enustu: 11:50am On Sep 30, 2017
The English language, as the third most commonly spoken language in the world, continues to dominate in business, trade and medical fields and is becoming even more widely learnt and spoken daily.

The international department of Ukhta State Technical University this year has once again provided the opportunity to enhance English skills through the English club. The English club has been a successful platform for casual, but informative grasping of the basics of the English language and its grammatical and conversational dynamics.

Mufaro Chirinda, an international student from Zimbabwe and an intern at the international department, led first session of the English club at Ukhta State Technical University. The club has actually turned out to be very successful. The students in the club enjoy being taught by Mufaro and sharing her knowledge in the language with them.
The informal environment allows learning the language through music, games, films and general interaction, and all those interested in becoming more familiar with the language can make new friends or just take a break from speaking in Russian and much more at the club.

Since not a large number of Russians speak English, Mufaro is doing a great job in promoting the language and getting the Russian students interested in learning the language

nonny001:

Your submission is on point but in the long run, it will not help the country. How many people who study abroad ever comeback to apply their skill in Nigeria.

While I will advice anybody who can to get good tertiary education anywhere she can - Nigeria or abroad. I think the Nigerian government need to wake up and take education seriously. It's very important.

You are right but i can assure you that a large number of those who study abroad come back to apply their skills in the country, but the way the economy is going now it would be difficult for graduates to come back.
If the economy is not helping the individual should help himself or herself. i dont think anyone would sit and wait for the economy to be okay before you develop on yourself.
Education in Russia is one of the best in the world and also very affordable. I believe most Nigerians will be able to afford it. The main aim is gaining admission and developing yourself personally.
It would be very beneficial the country if graduates return back to Naija to apply their newly acquired skills in developing the country.

I personally think if you not able to get admission in the country you should try applying abroad or something. I wrote the wassce but my results werent that good so i ended up not getting admission to any of the universities i applied to in Naija. i just tried applied to some schools in Russia and got an admission even with a scholarship. I think that the government has made the education system too tight and it really affects many students. Sometimes we need need try getting admission from other countries if its not working for us in Naija and Russia is one of places to study, trust me. so guys let me know what you think
