As a software engineer, I understand where he’s coming from. However, that notwithstanding, I don’t think the Android version should be used as an excuse on its own. A good engineer should be able to build and maintain an application that runs seamlessly on Android 10, especially when the hardware is already deployed and functioning.

Even today, there are applications that still support much older Android versions, including Android 5, depending on the requirements and architecture of the application. So, the fact that a newer Android version exists does not automatically mean the existing hardware needs to be replaced.

What matters most is the actual functionality and performance of the application on the BIVAS device. If the existing application can perform the required operations reliably on the current Android version, then there is no strong technical reason to change the hardware simply because a newer Android version is available.

The only situation where I would consider a hardware upgrade justified is if they are introducing new features or dependencies that genuinely require a higher Android API level and cannot reasonably be supported on the current device. Even then, there are often alternative approaches, such as finding another technical solution that maintains backward compatibility.

So, before concluding that the hardware needs to be changed, we should first establish what specific requirement is preventing the application from running on the existing Android version. If it is simply a matter of application compatibility or implementation, that should be addressed at the software level rather than replacing otherwise functional hardware.

There are 2 concerns for the hardware upgrade:
1. Security patches for android 10 is no longer available meaning it's prone to hacking.

2. The new OS upgrade may slow down the system response time.
