It is America you mentioned. We all know that they are the world power, if a country refuse to cooperate with them, they can mess the country up through non military means like hijacking the economy of that country through sanctions, stop the sale of weapons to the said country, stop aid, loans, and investment in that country, turn the people of that country against the government and mess everything up. In the case of Nigeria, what do we have? What can we do?

There are many things I hate about the way Northerners behave but there are other things I think we can emulate. Make no mistake about it, I will never want to be anything else other than Igbo in this life and the next and beyound.

So here are the things I like about Hausa.

1. Burial - no fanfare, extravagance, showing off and unecessary protocol. You die today, and you are buried tomorrow. Closure is immediate. This is the way Igbos used to bury our dead before colonialism arrived. Reserve your money for the living.

2. Marriage - Again, for the elite there are extravagant marriages but for most, it is a simple affair with both families in agreement, a few traditional rites and that's it. No 10 pages for traditional marriage list and no huge dowry. Simple.

3. Marrying early - This one is controversial and I do not subscribe to marriages to girls below 17 years of age. That being said, marrying early is a good thing and it prevents premarital sex and other promiscious attitudes and acts. In the South we are always ranting about career , career and by the time the girl is 26 ready for marriage she has been through multitudes of men. Not good folks.

4. More than one wife - Again this one is each man according to his pocket. Igbos married up to 4 wives and even 5 wives in the times of yore and each man married according to his strength and wealth. We can argue that it was because of a need for many children to help with farm work but I disagree. Having many children in those days was see as a sign of wealth. I personally believe in one wife and I have one wife but if you can marry more, why not ?? Is it not better to marry more than one wife than having side chicks in all the major cities ? Just see how many single women we have in the South in their late 20s and 30s with no husband. Marry more than one wife if it is legal and you can afford it.

5. Simplicity - An average Hausa man is not worried about accumulating the whole world to tell his village that he has arrived. Rather, he lives a simple humble life. The communities are usually closely knit and they work together for the common good.

6. Unity - Hausas may have huge problems with terrorism and other nefarious crimes, but they are united - they stand together to protect their own. They will never throw their own under the bus to appease the enemy. The will deal with their own in private.

7. If a Hausa man likes you, he will even give you half of his wealth if possible. They are kind to a fault.

8. Honesty - I find the average Hausa man to be honest., well more honest than the average southerner.
