I got divorced at the customary court because I did only traditional marriage. I saw a lawyer and also went to high court and was told no high court in Nigeria will dissolve a customary marriage because they do not have such jurisdiction. Only customary court have such jurisdiction

Please whereby the divorce certificate is from customary court because the only marriage performed was traditional marriage what happens? I was told at high court that embassies don't recognize our traditional marriage thus the divorce certificate is of no use to them and during B1/B2 application I stated married

uote author=LegitBachelor post=79197074]Yes there is but I don't think it's that expensive. It's used to be in the range of N1000 in 2017. Perhaps it should be around N5000 or less at present. It is done by the High Courts and is sent directly to the embassy. You'll be given a receipt after payment. A copy of the receipt and divorce decree is to be submitted by you to the embassy. I'm told this divorce decree verification can only be done if the US Embassy gives you a go ahead to do it. But you may go to the High Court Registry to inquire further.

And yes the medicals can be done in Abuja. Someone has already addressed this on this thread. You need to read from the beginning to see discussions on this. You can also click this link: https://www.nairaland.com/4800968/usa-fiancee-k1-visa-thread/15#75580903[/quote]

Please is there any fee for divorce decree verification? I have read the steps for K-1 Visa and didn't see anything like that but someone told me there is a fee because they usually verify divorce decree.

Also since the interview holds in Lagos only, can the medicals be done in Abuja when the time comes and then the interview in Lagos?

Ok. Thank you.
LegitBachelor:
Not advisable. They tend to mess things up. The petitioner along with his/her fiance can do it. All it takes is a bit of reading and asking questions.

Hello everyone, quiet an informative thread. I just came across this thread and I am so glad I did. Please is it advisable for the petitioner (US citizen) to use the services of an immigration lawyer for this?
