The former Chief of Naval Staff while making his declaration today said, "Based on personal conviction, after due consultation and prayers, I have decided to humbly submit and succumb to the overwhelming clarion call of the good people of Kogi state, to run for the forthcoming gubernatorial election by November 2023, under the banner of the accord party.

As Pencils in the hands of our creator, we should be sensitive to the plight of the people and dare not say NO when called upon to be used as a vessel for positive change. As we continue to formalize the process accordingly, I beg you all to remain calm, resolute, and law-abiding".

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday sent condolences to South Korea, state media reported, saying he was “shocked” to learn of a stampede at a Halloween celebration in the country’s capital that killed more than 150 people.

“On behalf of the Chinese government and the people of China, I express our deep condolences for the victims,” Xi said in a message to South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Philippine rescuers on Monday waded through thigh-deep mud using long pieces of wood to search for bodies buried by a landslide, as the death toll from a powerful storm rose to 98.

Just over half of the fatalities were from a series of flash floods and landslides unleashed by Tropical Storm Nalgae, which destroyed villages on the southern island of Mindanao on Friday.

Mindanao is rarely hit by the 20 or so typhoons that strike the Philippines each year, but storms that do reach the region tend to be deadlier than in Luzon and central parts of the country.
