How does the government go about this allocation of houses?
Is it through public announcement or through realtor?

And what is the cost? Is there any payment plan or it is full payment once allotted?

Please i beg who sing this song: bo se ise soldier mo le Bawon se.... Emo pelebe

Something like,

emo pelebe
Won ranmi si ara-oko
Mo yaa mura ile-iwe
Emo pelebe

Can't exactly place my hands on the lyrics.
But the video of the song has a theatre and campus-theme-like setting

Used to groove to it back then.

Along with one song from an old sitcom about campus life. It goes like this,
"whether you like am whether you no like am, the thing be say oh we go still dey shake body'

If I understand you correctly, NOC means Network Operating Centre. It is like a decentralized server room or extension of a main server room somewhere else. It houses things that can go into a server room or servers as a smaller server extension.

Thank you.

How is it like working there?
And is it worth trying out?
Politics / What Do Workers In NOC Tech Companies Do? by ewa20buredi100: 6:37am On Oct 07, 2023
Hi everyone,
I recently got a link from a friend. I found out that the link is a job to work in one of the NOC tech companies. I was informed that the company works with Glo telecom.

My first time of hearing the name; NOC tech company.

What is NOC all about? And what do they do there?

Any benefit of working in a NOC company? If there are, what are the benefits?

I have been in the education sector for years now.
Is it worth the career path change?

How much is their pay? Where I work currently, my monthly pay plus extra after-closing hustle fetch me a pay between 90k to 120k.

I reside in Benin. I am in my 30s.

Thank you for your input and suggestions.

Hi everyone,

I have been in the Education sector for more than 10years now.

Just recently, a friend linked me up to a Noc tech company.

This is my first time of hearing of the word "Noc". I asked my friend, though an immigration officer, he told me that he only knows that this particular Noc company works with Glo.

Please what is Noc all about and what do their workers do there?
Is it worth the move from where I am?

The job type is a contract one.

What is their pay package like? Where I am currently, my monthly pay plus extra classes fetch me between 90k to 120k.

Is it worth the move?
I have been given a time frame of one week to make up my mind.

Thank you. I would really appreciate sincere and mature response please.

Family / A Microfinance Bank Job In Lagos Or A Teaching Job In Benin? by ewa20buredi100: 7:40am On Feb 18, 2023
I have a neighbour who resides in Benin city, works as a Physics teacher in a private school and earns 60k as salary, plus extra 55k as a private lesson tutor.

She was recently given a job offer, after applying, in one Microfinance bank in Trade fair, Lagos state. The Microfinance bank has its headquarter in Europe.
The pay is 76k for the first 6 months. After which there will be an upward review to 96k.

Problem is she doesn't know which one to choose, as she is tired of teaching and life in Benin. And wants to experience Lagos life.

I wanted to tell her of the life, stress and traffic in Lagos. But had to withdraw, because I haven't been in Lagos for years now. So chances are that i may tell her what is not true.

And secondly, she has no accommodation in Lagos, but wants to go stay with a friend.

I do not know what to tell her.

Your suggestion highly needed.

Thank you

IT tech skills are goldmine not to be compared with these theoretical M.Sc we do here, and Data Science is one of the top 10 IT jobs out there.

Useful online learning sources:
Udacity, Udemy, Coursera, e.t.c

Thank you very much.

500 usd is max 335 at black market. But if you're sure your Nigerian Master's has value, then go for it.

For online learning, all you need is a laptop, internet, and discipline.

Thank you very much.

My brother said that the fee he saw on Udacity was 400USD per month.....not for the entire duration of the course (which is 5months)

Or he didn't check well?

JoeyNaza:
Yes, IT Courses can be very lucrative if you are a good Learner not just a good Student. If you are just a good student, you would pay for a million and one courses before you ever amount to anything significant.

My advice, if you want a qualitative experience that has huge potential upside I will advise:

1. Pay for Pluralsight Courses. (usually above $200)
Udemy and co. will be cheaper but Pluralsight provides job-ready context. It is preferred by tech companies in uptraining their staff. Pick quality over price.

2. Leetcode Pro
To practice your Data Structure and Algorithm Knowledge. This is the foundation of your application of programming concepts. DSA is highly sought after. Coding Job Interviews are hinged on DSA knowledge.

3. Read Technical Books and Documentations:
We love audio-visual learning materials, but books written by experts in the selected fields give you a whole lot of retained value you can never get out of hour long videos where the creator tries to minimize time and size and sacrifice value/content. Read Documentations on the languages , frameworks and packages you are working with. Books on the Computer Science Fundamentals should be prioritized.

4. Learn Extensively :
IT field is really broad and dynamic. Tools, resources become obsolete quickly. So you have to refresh your knowledge frequently.
Try to know as much as or more than the next person. The field is competitive. You can't rest on little knowledge. Brush up various skills, technologies which you can pick up when ready but don't try to become an expert in all. Pick One field that catches your passion and delve in deeper and commit more effort than in the rest.

5. Build Projects and Gain Real Work Experience:
You don't sell yourself in this field with grammar or a well styled CV. You do that exclusively by your capacity. You have to show your capacity to fulfill job demands in various forms. Either by being an avid team player in a group with amazing projects and show your impact on the team or your solo projects that show your skills and abilities are top notch by production standards.
Skilled developers with no degree are employed over nominal CS grads. It's all about what you can do.

With these you can begin Job applications, that is a whole other issue and topic. But, you would stand a very solid chance. Tech pays well indeed. Remote job offers begin at $30,000 in well paying regions. Some companies especially in Canada and US can use special immigration policies to sponsor your work visa to move over and continue work in their country.

Check-out this 19 year old Nigerian with no degree that was on a $156,000 per annum salary before he left to start his own company:
https://techcabal.com/2022/02/24/meet-the-19-year-old-nigerian-building-his-own-blockchain-empire/

Thanks for the enlightenment. What kind of laptop must he have? Kindly recommend any good one of your choice
Career / Re: How lucrative are IT courses? by ewa20buredi100: 11:40am On Aug 04, 2022
SmartyPants:

A. Yes

B. Certificates aren't of much use in the online economy. People just want to see proof of your skill in the projects you've done.

But to answer the question, Udacity carries much more weight because the instructors are recognized in their fields.

500USD is almost 400,000 naira (which one can conveniently use to do a Masters in Nigeria)

So what are the things one needs to put in place (like must-have-gadgets and accessories, etc) to ensure smooth learning and what are the challenges in learning online courses?

Can these challenges be avoided or reduced to barest minimum or they cannot be avoided?

Thank you

How lucrative are IT courses? Very. The way the world is going now remote jobs should be his target.

Are they expensive? Not always.

I'd recommend these sites:

1. Udemy 10 - 20 usd per course
2. Udacity around 500 usd for a group of relsted courses that will make one a master of a certain area

Will the person be given a certificate at the end of the course?

If yes, is the certificate a recognised and accepted one in upwork or fiverr or any where?

Thank you

There's a lot. You could be a Salesforce admin. You could do marketing automation with tools like Salesforce marketing cloud or pardot. Their certifications are very highly valued. An entry level job in those fields will pay you more than even some senior devs in Nigeria sef and there's so much demand out there's it's so crazy. Research on tech platforms and no code tools there's always an administrative side to it which absolutely no programmer wants to use and touch and get good at those administrative tasks. Get insanely good and extremely dangerous and watch your fortunes change.

It's not about hard work.

1. For content writing, Nigerians generally don't write that well. Africans in general. You can find many large companies with several Nigerian programmers but not one single Nigerian writer despite the fact that there are more writers than programmers in Nigeria. Even a few reasonably successful Nigerian writers I've come across still have visible room for improvement.

2. I don't know why there aren't many Nigerians in customer support and design jobs. It could be that most Nigerians don't even know that these jobs are available.

Hi nairalanders,
I urgently need your input and counsel.

My younger brother happened to have ran into an old friend who is doing well for himself. From their last meeting, the friend promised to help him further his studies on the condition that the course or skill of interest will be the one that will help him achieve financial stability. And told him to go think about it and get back to him, latest next week.

This is because he has little time to spend in the country.

When my brother told me about it, I advised him to go for MSc in Chemistry, preferably Analytical chemistry in UniLag, though he wanted to go the tech route, preferably BIG DATA analytics or Software engineering.

I told him to go for the Analytical Chemistry , as it will be cheaper and he can easily get a lot of school options, like UniBen, UI, UniLag, etc. And he can easily get a decent job with it, without much stress.

Unlike BIG DATA or other related IT courses that are very expensive and their skill acquisition centres being very hard to find (I mean the very good ones).
And of which getting a job is very stressful, as it requires a lot of processes and procedures, especially for the remote jobs.

Please did I advise him well or he should go for his Tech related courses?

He is 33years and he has been a tutor ever since he graduated from the University.

Thank you.

Business / Msc Industrial Chemistry Or A Certification In Any I. T Course by ewa20buredi100: 10:50pm On Aug 02, 2022
Hi everyone,
So sorry to bother you, but I need the advice of experienced and grown up nairalanders.

My younger brother met a friend who wants to sponsor/finance his Postgraduate studies.

The condition given to him is that: the course of interest must be something that can help him stand on his feet financially.

It came as a surprise to him and does not know what to do, It came as an unexpected blessing from God.

He is contemplating MSc in Industrial Chemistry (my own advice to him) or a certification in software engineering or programming or BIG DATA.

He is 33years. Please I do not want him to miss-use this golden chance God has presented before him. He has a one week window to present his decision to him.

Please your counsel is highly needed.

Thank you.

Hi everyone,
On 26th of April, on Tuesday at about 7:20pm, I could not access my facebook account.

I discovered that my email and password has been changed.

I contacted facebook and I was instructed to upload any means of I.D by the government. I was only able to send an old voter's card (temporary) and a birth certificate sworn at a court of Law.

Facebook replied me later informing me that my I.Ds were not accepted, as they do not bear any information to my hacked account. I became confused. So I went over the process again. Yet I was still told the same thing.
Then facebook said that as a result of this current situation, my account will be locked and none of my contacts on facebook will be able to see me and that nobody will be able to access my friends list. I became relieved.

Just this night I switched on my data, only to see facebook sending me notifications from my hacked account.

I am worried as I suspect that someone is using my facebook to do something I am unaware of.

Please what do I do?
How do I retrieve my facebook account?

Thank you

Hi everyone,
I have been a Chemistry and Mathematics teacher for years now.

Then I met a friend who is a retired Government officer. He took interest in my kind of person and promised to link me up to opportunities that are better than teaching.

He called me yesterday and I went to see him. He presented two job opportunities before me;
1. A shopping mall manager (at Ring road in Benin city)
OR
2. As an assistant manager with a Private firm that supplies passport booklets to Immigration officers. I will be working directly from NIS Headquarter.

He gave me a week to make up my mind and choose an option

Please my questions are;
1. Will it be wise to dump years of teaching for these new opportunities?

2. Are the opportunities viable and worth the transition?
Which of the two options should I go for if I were to choose?
And what benefits does one stand to gain?

Thank you
