I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct a LIVE television broadcast to assure the Nigerian people that he is well and that he has not fled our shores to seek medical treatment elsewhere. The rumours are heartbreaking and disheartening. We deserve to be reassured that we have not been abandoned midstream and that the President has not been afflicted by Covid 19 or any other debilitating and life-threatening illness. We also need to be assured that he is indeed Muhammadu Buhari and not Jubril Al Sudani. To say that it is his style to ignore his people and treat them with contempt at a time of national crisis is disrespectful, disingenuous and downright insulting. The Nigerian people deserve a far better quality of leadership than that. If he is too sick to continue as President he should resign and let someone else take over the reigns of power but if he is well enough to continue he should get off his high horse, purge himself of his contempt for our people, come clean and behave like a responsible modern-day leader and not a feudal Arab Sheik or primitive tribal warlord. The Nigerian people and indeed the entire world are facing an existential threat and the greatest challenge in their entire history and this is not the time to play games or act as if all is well and that our house is not on fire. We need a leader that can inspire, encourage and reassure us and that is strong, healthy, focused, purposeful, decisive, sensitive, compassionate, alive to his responsibilities and forward-thinking. We do not need a power-mad, tyrannical, vain and irresponsible megalomaniac and antedeluvian relic who has lost touch with reality, who no longer knows who, what or where he is and who is suffering from senility, delusions of grandeur, an identity crisis and the misplaced notion that he is not accountable to God and to the people. A British Army convoy pulled up outside St Thomas Hospital in London this morning after Boris Johnson announced an unprecedented set of measures to keep people indoors. Soldiers delivered personal protective equipment including face masks to help frontline NHS staff with their fight against coronavirus. Members of the 101 Logistic Brigade have been called in to help with the national health crisis which has seen 6650 confirmed cases and 335 deaths. It comes after the army announced it had 20,000 troops on standby as part of a ‘Covid Support Force’ alongside 10,000 specially trained personnel at ‘higher readiness’ to respond to a civil emergency. Soldiers are even being flown home from Iraq to assist in the battle against Covid-19. Explaining this morning’s hospital delivery, 101 Logistic Brigade Brigadier Phil Prosser said: ‘The British Army soldier is a citizen soldier and is proud to be part of the nation’s response to this unprecedented challenge. ‘There are some tough times ahead and the nation needs to rise together to respond to those times. ‘What you’ve seen today is a British Army convoy delivering Personal Protective Equipment right to the frontline of the nation’s response to the Coronavirus challenge – standing side by side with the NHS.’ A team of 150 personnel have been earmarked to help NHS staff drive oxygen tankers patients in need while the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory is helping Public Health England understand the airborne virus and how it spreads.
