Road transport workers in Enugu State under the aegis of National Union of Road Transport Workers have unanimously endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for re-election in 2019 for his administration’s giant development strides in the state with the limited resources at its disposal. The road transport workers, who gave the endorsement during a solidarity rally organized by the union tagged: “One good term deserves another” held at the popular Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for “the unprecedented good governance he has brought to bear in the lives of the good people of Enugu State”. In an address presented by the state chairman of the union, Chief Mathew Asogwa, the transport workers added that the governor in spite of the daunting economic reality in the country and lean resources of Enugu State has so far recorded tremendous feat in roads construction and rehabilitation both in urban and rural areas, which they said elongates the life of their vehicles. They also pointed out that their endorsement of Gov. Ugwuanyi for re-election was because of his positive impacts in the prompt payment of salaries of all civil servants in the state; human capacity development; health sector reforms; empowerment of youths, traders and artisans, among others. The union equally disclosed that the education sector was also receiving serious attention through the construction, renovation and equipping of public schools and recruitment of about 4000 teachers into the primary and secondary schools including promotion of teachers, among others. The transporters while reaffirming their “unflinching support” for the governor for his re-election in office stressed that “it will be a disservice to the good people of Enugu State if we as one of the major beneficiaries of your administration’s provision of democracy dividends fail to show commensurate appreciation”. “In fact, we have come to put into practice the saying that “Honour should be given to whom it is due”. Your Excellency, the good people of Enugu State particularly members of our great union are proud of you for your sustained and untiring efforts at transforming Enugu State to greater heights. “The union wishes to assure you that we are solidly behind you and we are going to deploy all machinery in motion to ensure the realization of the theme of this rally “One Good Term Deserves Another. “To this end, we have commenced enlightment and sensitization campaign among our members to encourage them to go and register and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards”, the union chairman stated. Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Festus Uzor, thanked the members of the union for their “unwavering” support, prayers, goodwill and solidarity, assuring them that such gesture would not be taken for granted. Dr. Uzor also appreciated the large turnout of the road transport workers at the event, saying that it was a testimony that they are truly in support of the governor and his good works in Enugu State. He reassured that the Gov. Ugwuanyi administration will continue to provide the basic needs of the people to make life more meaningful for them, as well as provide the enabling environment to make their businesses thrive in the state. The Chief of Staff maintained that the state government has opened many rural areas through roads construction and other infrastructural development and enhanced the security of the state, making Enugu one of the safest states in the country. source: http://easternreporter.com/2018/03/16/enugu-transport-workers-endorse-ugwuanyi-2nd-term/

Controversial on-air personality (OAP), Daddy Freeze has taken to his instagram once again, to preach his gospel of #free the sheeple. Freeze put up his post after Quilox boss, Shina Peller saved accident victims over the weekend, along Sagamu road using his mouth to “draw fuel” from a bus as FRSC ambulance had none. freeze took to his Instagram page to upload photos of Shina an–d wrote: “Why it’s more rewarding to use your money to buy liquor in @shinapeller‘s nightclub #Quilox than for you to give it to a Pentecostal church. “There was an accident along the lagos Ibadan expressway and my good friend from the same hood as I, SHINA was passing by. Not only did he stop to help, he siphoned fuel with his mouth because the ambulance on the scene did not have enough fuel. He also gave one of his vehicles to take the injured to the hospital. “How many of your fake ass Daddy GOs would do this? How many of them would use those their dirty, lying ass mouths anointed by satan himself to draw fuel? How many will even stop? “Many of the accidents along that road are caused by the traffic around the numerous satanic institutions set up where developed countries would have set up factories. “When Jesus was alive he drank alcohol and was accused to be in the presence of sinners (possibly in Night Clubs) so enjoying a bottle of Champagne or Henny with coke and ice at quilox in responsibility and moderation is actually Christ like. “Matthew 11:19 NIV: The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ What could he have been drinking that they labeled him a drunkard? Lucozade boost? “More so, another reason to patronize them lies in the fact that the club employs people who earn a living through it and it pays taxes as instructed by our first pastors, the disciples; something most pastors and churches are blatantly disobeying. “Romans 13: NIV [6] This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. [7] Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; “Here are my 2cents, stop over at quilox on a Friday and empty your pockets there, so the thieves won’t have anything to steal from you on Sunday, while you are at it, drink responsibly! ~FRZ #FreeTheSheeple”. source: http://easternreporter.com/2018/03/15/daddy-freeze-rewarding-buy-alcohol-night-club-give-money-pentecostal-church/

The World Health Organization (WHO) has commended Enugu State government for being among the states in the country that are up to date in their payment of counterpart funds for the immunization of children against childhood killer diseases. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of measles immunization campaign at Uwani Cottage Hospital, Enugu, which was performed by the Enugu State deputy governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the zonal representative of WHO, Dr. Onyinye Emefiena, applauded the state government for its commitment to the programme. She added that the state paid its counterpart fund since last October, which made it possible for the event to take place in the state. Noting that measles is a killer disease that has taken many lives, Dr. Emefiena explained that through vaccines, children within the nine-month and nine-year age bracket will be immunized. "The immunization exercise will be taking place in health centres, schools, traditional rulers' palaces and other designated places where children can be found. So mothers and caregivers should avail their kids of this gesture," she said. Also speaking, the UNICEF representative, Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyayo, applauded the Enugu State government for sustaining the immunization efforts through support in the areas of logistics, training and supervision, adding that such assistance will ensure a hitch-free exercise. The chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, similarly lauded the Ugwuanyi administration, describing the commitment it has so far given to the immunization programme since its inauguration as "unprecedented in the history of the state". According to him, the attention paid to immunization in the past was not of this magnitude, as it was usually the state commissioners of health that flagged off immunization campaigns. "But now it is His Excellency or his deputy that flags off immunization exercise under a conducive atmosphere. "This shows that our governor is a leader that cares for his people," the monarch said. Responding, the deputy governor reiterated the Ugwuanyi administration’s readiness to sustain the fight against measles and other childhood killer diseases in the state. "The Enugu State government has joined forces with international partners like the WHO and UNICEF to ensure the execution of a statewide campaign in all corners of our dear state. The aim is to reach out to our children and immunize them against measles which is often a deadly disease that contributes to high infant mortality indices," said Mrs. Ezeilo. GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, yesterday, said the state was under siege by herdsmen. Governor Okowa, who spoke at Isiokolo, Ethiope East Local Government Area, in continuation of the town hall meetings across the state, insisted that the state will not cede land to the establishment of cattle colonies, asking the Federal Government to come out with a definite policy to end herdsmen’s attacks. Gov. Okowa Okowa said: “Unfortunately, in our state, we are under siege. But we are trying to manage it the best way possible. “We have made a statement that we will not support cattle colonies in Delta State because we do not have enough land for our farmers, considering the fact that a lot of our land is already degraded from oil exploitation activities. “We have raised these issues, along with other states, as we have no doubt that the clashes we have here is not limited to Delta State. “We believe the Federal Government needs to work out a policy that will checkmate this and we are happy that the Vice President is currently leading a committee to look into this, but before then, we will continue to work with the state’s Commissioner of Police on how to look into the issues involved.” Meanwhile, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, called on the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Mustafa, to end herdsmen attacks on farmers and other Deltans. The Speaker, who spoke when the Police boss paid him and members of the House a courtesy visit, said Deltans, especially farmers were now living in constant fear as a result of herdsmen’s attacks. Speaking earlier, Mr. Mustafa called for unity in dealing with crime cases in the state and thanked members of the Assembly for assisting Police in the state. A Nigerian lawyer, Chyma Anthony, has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly and the Attorney General of the Federation, (AGF) Ibrahim Malami, to a federal high court in Abuja, over the move by the lawmakers to change election sequence. Also joined in the suit are, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Among other things, the lawyer is demanding that the court determine whether the decision by the National Assembly to usurp the powers of the INEC to fix the dates of election to the House of Assembly and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, does not contravene the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. In the suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/222/18, the plaintiff in a general form of originating summons, prayed the court to order the defendants to cause an appearance to be entered for them in defense of what he described as ‘moves made by the defendants that have injured and affected him.’ Supporting his case with a 16 paragraph affidavit, the plaintiff further prayed the court to determine whether by the combined effect of the provisions of Sections 76 and 132 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the National Assembly is empowered to take away from INEC, the constitutional powers bestowed on it to fix the respective dates for the National Assembly and presidential elections without amending the relevant provisions of the Constitution. The relief sought by the plaintiff includes that the court should issue a declaration stating that by the combined effect of the provisions of Sections 76 and 132 of the Constitution, the INEC and not the National Assembly, is the only body authorized to fix the respective dates for elections into the both houses of the National Assembly and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and that the powers conferred on INEC by the Constitution cannot be taken away from it by the National Assembly. The matter has not been listed for hearing source: http://easternreporter.com/2018/03/07/lawyer-drags-buhari-national-assembly-others-court-election-sequence/

Tony Ezimakor, the Abuja Bureau Chief of Daily Independent Newspaper has been released after spending 6 days in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). A release made available to newsmen by Don Okere, editor of the newspaper stated that the DSS released Ezimakor about 10:30p.m on Tuesday. “Ezimakor was arrested on Wednesday, last week, by DSS over a publication on the payment of about $2 million ransom to Boko Haram for the release of 82 abducted Chibok girls. Apparently embarrassed by the publication, the DSS invited and detained Ezimakor after harassing staff of Independent Newspapers at the Lagos office. The DSS had insisted that he disclose sources of his information as a condition for his release. But Independent Newspapers had asked the DSS to go to court if it felt aggrieved with the publication. We want to use this medium to thank local and international press, lawyers, civil society organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians for their efforts and solidarity during the period of detention of Tony Ezimakor,” the release reads.
