Education / Updates On Unaab Post Utme Cut-off by expert40(m): 4:55pm On Jul 29, 2010
I am Micheal, a 200 Level student in the Department of Aquaculture & Fisheries Management. I hereby use this medium to congratulate each and every candidate who participated in the just concluded POST UTME of our great institution. Despite the fact that the result was released on the third day, Its was however discovered that not up to 30% of those who sat for the post UTME made up to 40%. Actually, the most commonly used cutoff mark for UNAAB post UTME is always 40% right from time. But i will like everyone out there who score below 40% not to loose hope because there is nothing impossible for GOD to do. This is because the system of this year post UTME was somehow technical for candidates
Therefore, due to the percentage of the candidate who score below 40% being high am very sure and as well  praying for GOD'S favour for the affected candidate. Very soon, the university authority will declear loud and clear the 2010/2011 post UTME cutoff mark & as well my prayer is for it to be of great favour to all candidate really willing to come to UNAAB.
Once again let me congratulate you all by calling you the ''POTENTIAL UNAABITES''

Thanks for choosing UNAAB as your choice of institution

MICHEAL,

Education / ::unaab Mini Campus Moves To Permanent New Site - Construction Works Begin Immed by expert40(m): 4:21am On Oct 09, 2009
The Centre for Human Resources Development (CENHURD) of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, presently located at the Mini Campus, Isale-Igbein, is to finally relocate to the Opeji axis of the University’s Permanent Site.

The University’s permanent site at Alabata Road took off from the Mini Campus which is presently housing the Centre for Human Resources Development (CENHURD).

The University has commenced the process of relocating the over 2,000 students of CENHURD to the 30-hectare site at Opeji Village with a special interdenominational prayers, heralding construction activities at the site.

In his brief exhortation, the University Chaplain, Prof. Christian Ikeobi assured that with the benevolence of the Almighty, a virile and productive academic community with great impact on the neighbouring communities and the nation would soon emerge from the new site.

Speaking in the same vein, the Chief Imam to the University, Dr. Idris Ayinde described the project as divine, observing that since God is involved, the level of transformation would be very rapid.

Special prayers were offered for the success of the project during the programme attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun who was represented by his deputy in charge of Development, Prof. Omolayo Ariyo.

Professor Balogun described the development as a dream come true and assured that contractors would move in immediately to commence construction.

Also speaking, the Director of CENHURD, Dr. Taofeek Salisu expressed strong conviction that the project would be completed without delay and commended the leadership of the University for its unparalleled development initiatives.
Education / ASUU Strike Update In Punch ( Suspension Of Strike: No Classes Yet, Unijos Asu) by expert40(m): 4:18am On Oct 09, 2009
The University of Jos Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has resolved to support the suspension of the over three-month-old strike by public university lecturers for two weeks, to allow for conclusion of negotiations with the Federal Government.

However, the Chapter has said that it will not resume classes, but will only take advantage of the suspension to “dust our chairs and clean our offices.”

Chapter Chairman, Dr. Timothy Namo, said that the decision was in line with the directive of the National Executive Committee of the union, which mandated them to hold to make input into the propriety of suspending the strike.

Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, Namo said members expressed satisfaction at the briefing they got on the progress made so far, and opted to support the suspension of the strike.

He said that the decision not to resume classes followed apprehension expressed by members that government might again renege on signing the agreement, hence, the decision to suspend rather than outrightly call off the strike.

Namo said, “Once beaten, twice shy. We are giving them (government)the benefit of the doubt and if the government does not do what it promised within the two weeks, then the strike will resume. That is what our members are saying,” he said.

He said the national leadership of ASUU would collate the decisions reached by the various chapters and announce the consensus of opinion of members at a meeting scheduled to hold on Friday (today).

Education / Punch Update On Wednessday About ASUU Strike by expert40(m): 5:26am On Oct 07, 2009
Hopes that the 109-day-old strike by public university lecturers would be called off on Tuesday have been dashed, as the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities asked Nigerians to wait till Friday for its final decision on the issue.

The National Executive Council of ASUU had met on Tuesday night to deliberate on the new offer presented to the union’s negotiating team by the Federal Government, after the intervention of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State.

Many had hoped that the outcome of the meeting would result in the suspension of the strike.

But a top source at the meeting confided in one of our correspondents that the NEC decided that branch chairmen of the union should go back to their respective chapters to brief lecturers about the offer and the position to take thereafter.

“The strike is not yet over. You have to wait till Friday when the national president, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, will brief the press on our position on the current action. For now, the NEC’s directive is that we should go back to our various universities to brief our members, after which we will get back to the NEC and on Friday, this week, a press conference will hold, where our position will be made known to the public,” the source revealed.

Asked to comment on the new offer by the government, the source told our correspondent to wait till Friday. The source only said that the government had shifted it’s earlier position on earlier refusal to sign the agreement on behalf of the state governments.

The ASUU president also expressed a similar view in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, saying that the issues involved would have to be discussed at the local chapter level before a final decision would be reached.

He said, “The decision is that state chapters of the union have to make their input in line with the democratic principles of the union.”

Asked to comment on the areas of contention, Awuzie said he could not do that since our correspondent was not a member of the NEC.

He said, “If I tell you the areas of discussion, then you have become a member of the NEC. Are you a member of NEC?”

But he said that no date had been fixed for the reconvening of the NEC meeting.

“We have not taken any specific date yet, but they have to make their input soonest. That means we have to get their input as soon as possible,” he said.

But the top source at the NEC meeting, which held behind closed doors on Tuesday, said that Friday had been picked as the day that the final decision would be made known to the public.

Another source, who attended the NEC meeting, said that members expressed divergent opinions on the proposal by the Federal Government that individual universities should decide the remuneration of lecturers.

Some had insisted that the state universities should be adequately catered for in the negotiations.

The decision by ASUU to call the NEC meeting was taken last Friday after several meetings with the Edo State governor and the Federal Government team.

Though the Chairman, ASUU, University of Lagos Chapter, Dr. Ayo Olowe, confirmed that the union would brief the media on Friday, he refused to comment on the details of Tuesday’s meeting.

“Just wait, exercise some patience. By Friday you will know the union’s position,” he said.

Meanwhile, priests in the Anglican Dioceses of Akure and Ife East have called on the Federal Government to put an end to the strike.

They lamented that the delay in resolving the crisis which had kept students at home for the past four months, had caused more harm than good.
