The BMW M2 Competition breaks a record, breaking balloons with a laser The BMW M2 Competition is one of the latest developments of the German brand and also one of the funniest models they offer today. That is why it is the perfect vehicle to carry out a series of curious challenges. The first of these “M2 Challenges” has already been unveiled on the YouTube channel of BMW and has consisted in exploiting balloons with a laser that had been previously installed in the vehicle. It may seem like something that has nothing to do with the motor world, even a somewhat useless action. However, it gains prominence when it is said that they have achieved a Guinness Record in that area. Previously the best brand was 63 balloons in 60 seconds, achieved by a human. Now the machine has been equipped with a high intensity laser that comes out of the radiator grille and with which it will have to explode balloons through the circuit. It is a small path with strategically placed balloons. That’s where the behavior of the BMW M2 Competition and its maneuverability is important. Do not forget that it is a rear-wheel drive vehicle and quite powerful. Its twin-cylinder, inline and 3.0-liter twin-cylinder engine now manages to develop a power of 410 HP and 550 Nm of torque, far surpassing its predecessor and remaining close to the M3 / M4. Although it is not a car too light (about 1,600 kg). The result is the record of 79 balloons in 60 seconds, improving in 16 balloons the previous existing brand. The graphical proof that shows why the ’70s were wonderful for off-roaders The 1970s was not exactly a highlight for automotive technology. However, it was a formative era for those who enjoyed vehicles with all-wheel drive and outstanding ground clearance. While SUVs were beginning to come out (like the Ford Bronco or Range Rover), old military Jeep and other 4×4 singles delighted mud buffs. It was also a time when there were not so many restrictions, neither for emissions, nor for safety, nor for driving off the asphalt. Recall that an authentic off-road vehicle, unlike any other type of tourism, equips a chassis of stringers and crossbars with a body screwed on top. The advantage of this configuration is that it provides greater rigidity in rough terrain, but they are also heavier and more unsafe in the event of a crash. Searching the net, we can find some videos from those times, but perhaps one of the best recordings is that of the extinct British BBC program Wheelbase (1964-1975), which was the predecessor of a program that perhaps you have heard of speak: Top Gear. Curiously, Wheelbase was one of the first shows in the UK to be broadcast in color by BBC2 during the transition from a grayscale to something much more colorful.
