Chapter 1

Mike opened his eyes and the first things he saw were two ovals with crystalline features- Cynthia, his
fiancee’s eyes. He smiled sheepishly on cue and was momentarily mesmerized by the beauty before him. He wondered to himself how he kept getting mesmerized by her beauty despite being with her for over three years. She had knelt above him and their gazes were locked.


He was brought back by the aroma that filled his nostrils.
“Is that what I think it is?,” he asked excitedly as his brain registered the aroma that had permeated his nose.
‘You bet,” Cynthia quipped as she climbed off him.
He sat up in bed as she began to set the table across his torso. She placed the laptop table he had been working with the night before across his chest and placed the tray carrying the plate of pancakes
on the table. She reached below to the floor by the bed and brought up a can of juice which she turned into a long tumbler.


“Hmm. This is heavenly,” Mike mumbled with his mouth full after biting a huge chunk of the first pancake that he had folded in half.
“I’m glad you like it,”
“Like? No baby. I love it,”
“Thanks baby,”


“You do know that the roles should be reversed for a romantic aesthetic, don’t you?”
‘Well, now that you mentioned, I could toss the whole thing into the trash, kick you out of bed and have you go into the kitchen and prepare the disaster o a meal and serve me in bed after which I will spend the whole day in the toilet with my head bowed over the toilet bowl, barfing out my visceral.”
“Now that’s graphic. I thought it was the intention that counted,”
“Sure, it is but..”
don't you think you think that's harsh?” Mike protested comically.
“Don't you think you picked the wrong choice of words?” she quipped.
“I was just trying to paint a picture, is all” he protested weakly.
“I think the words you were looking for were thank you, baby. Now say the words, baby”
“Thank you, my queen?”
“That’s my boy.”
They both burst into laughter and in a blink of an eye, their lips were locked in furious passion.

Mike left home smiling and bobbed his head in glee to the music blaring through the car’s speakers as he drove to work. He got to work at 7:49 am, and saw his partner Williams, parking in his designated spot.
‘Hey Wills, what’s up man?” Mike managed to ask in a normal tone.
‘Nothing much man. Just trying to kick things,’ Williams replied.
Staring at Mike, Williams detected the glee in Mike’s eyes.
‘Dude, did you win the jackpot?’
‘Why did you ask?’
“Well, there is the glow in your eyes and I am certain there is one other thing that can bring that out besides probably having all the money in the world, which you do,”
‘And what is that?’
“Love man, love.’
Mike burst in to an uncontrollable laughter.
“Cynthia is the jackpot man. So I guess I won the jackpot man”
“Congrats man. So, how prepared are we concerning the meeting we will be having later?”
“I have the documents ready. We can go over them together before the entourage arrives,”
“Oh, wonderful.” Williams muttered between yawns.
‘Anything the matter?” Mike asked confused.
“Man, last night’s party was crazy. I swear. You needed to see the babes that were brought. Man, you
really are missing with this one-woman thing you got going on.”
“Nah. That lifestyle is no longer mine”
“Either way, let’s go in and go through the documents you have prepared.”


After the successful meeting with the potential investors who asked Mike’s team to send their numbers over, Mike decided to pay his brother James a visit. On getting there, he knocked repeatedly
but there was no response, so Mike took his key and opened the door. Mike looked around and saw a light sliver emanating through the slit under James’ workstation. He opened the door and found out that James had his ears plugged with the music audible enough through the headset he had on. Mike
saw that he had his mind focused on something on the table and it was not the monitor. Mike moved closer and found out he was reading a book.


Mike lifted one ear up and in a tone so low that could be mistaken for a whisper,
“You know, there is something called e-book.”

This startled James who sprang up from his swivel chair.
“Dude, stop this nonsense man. You could have given me a heart attack.
“We both know that you are as healthy as a horse. Moreover, why would you just plug your ears and
be oblivious to the things around you?”
“Well, it’s not like I was expecting any guest in the first place.”
“So you decided to numb your awareness because of that. You know I could have easily been a
burglar and you could have been another statistic,”
“I guess we have GOD to thank for that,”


“By the way, what has you so engrossed that you ignored your environment?”
Mike picked up the book and read the sky-blue cover of the paperback textbook that read aloud, "Palmadex Export Academy”.


"What are you doing, going back to school despite the litany of certificates you possess?” Mike asked
surprised.

“Well, for someone as knowledgeable as you, you sure are myopic. Have you no idea that exportation is the new goldmine?”

Exportation of resources that aren't sufficient enough in the first place? Come on man. That's living in a fool’s paradise.
“Have you ever thought that if we export, we tend to encourage producers to manufacture?”
“No man. It does not work that way man. Exportation is only logical when the supply has met with the demand of the local market.”
“Whao! Look at the economist in the building. Why don't I five you this textbook to read so you can
critique it to your satisfaction.”


I am uninterested man. Just came here to tell you that my company is close to a deal with
Rolodexter. Our meeting went well and we have been asked to send our figures.”
“That’s great news man. We are going to celebrate that man,”
"Let us not count our chickens before they are hatched,”
'That's fair, but we will drink a shot,”

What Mike did not realize was that his life was about to change.

Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi has inaugurated the 16-man Governing Board of Police Academy (POLAC) Wudil, to reaffirm President Muhammadu Buhari’s sincere commitment to bequeath a reformed, professionalized, highly motivated, and knowledge-based Police Force with a view to institutionalizing proactive policing in Nigeria, National Àssociation of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report. 

The Governing Board which consists of stakeholders from the police ecosystem and academia was inaugurated at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Headquarters in Abuja.

The Minister stated that the overall objectives of the Police Academy is to encourage the advancement of learning and to avail members of the Nigeria Police Force the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, or religious persuasion;
He added that the institution provides courses of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of teaching and learning in all the facilities and campuses of the Academy and nurtures, equips, and produces globally competitive police officers with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes suitable for leadership, scholarship, policing, and community service.

In his words, POLAC encourages and promotes academic excellence; conducts research in relevant fields of learning and human endeavor; aligns its activities to the security, social, cultural, and economic needs of the people of Nigeria as well as prepares Cadets through well-articulated theory and practice for careers of service and achievements; and
Dingyadi recalled that the Academy whose Governing Board was inaugurated took off simultaneously in 1988 at two temporary campuses; the Police Training School Challawa, Kano where Cadet Inspectors were trained; and the Police College Kaduna, where cadet ASPs were trained.

According to him, “The two campuses were merged and relocated to its permanent site in Wudil, Kano, after it was formally commissioned on the 2nd April 1996. However, the institution was upgraded to a degree-awarding institution in September 2012”.

The Minister pointed out that, the approval of the Governing Board of the Nigeria Police Academy by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari seeks to fully operationalize the provisions of the Police Academy (Establishment) Act 2021 earlier signed into law by Mr. President on 7th April 2022.

He said the Police Academy Governing Board known as the Nigeria Police Academy Council among others, has the statutory responsibility to exercise control and supervise the policy, finances, and property of the Academy; Promote and discipline staff of the Academy that are not Police Officers on the advice of the appropriate Committees and approve the academic and Police programs of the Academy.

Responding on behalf of the board members, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali pledged the commitment of the board to transform POLAC into a center of excellence.

In his words, "the academy had since its establishment, grown from strength to strength and would continue to produce fine police officers in various fields of study. We are proud of this academy which is one of its kind in the world and we believe it will be one university that no parent would want to miss for his child to be”.

How would you characterize a successful exporter?

A successful exporter is a person or an entity who had stayed determined and tenacious to the point of building a brand that’s globally acceptable.

What are common misconceptions about Export?

Many thought it was only oil and gas that can be exported from Nigeria.

Have you experienced low times doing business?

Yes. Many low times but the passion and interest in the business backed up by GOD’s led vision have all been motivations to be tenacious to eventually achieve the vision set forth.

Most people at the top in business have stepped on a few heads to get there, can you say this is not the case with you?

Not the case. Palmadex is driven by vision and not by ambition. We know with God and following standard processes, we would get to the top most top.

What is your business philosophy?

Deliver excellent services and quality goods and build a robust clientele base globally.

You are extremely passionate on Environmental Issues, what was the turning point when you felt you had to play your part?

Environmental awareness, compliance with environmental protection regulations, afforestation, climate change, energy and natural resource conservation in Nigeria

What’s different in today’s business world compared to when you first started?

Government policies and economic issues affecting business projections and sustainability of international opportunities.

What advise would you give a budding entrepreneur?

Be determined, tenacious to succeed. Build a brand of repute, maintain standards, comply with local and international regulations. Gather and research relevant information that would lead to great success in the business.

What is your focus for the future?

Build a multinational conglomerate that would have trade offices all across the world.
