HealthBenefits Of Potassium And Side Effect To Your Health by Expressclickin0(op): 2:33am On Jun 12, 2020
Potassium is a mineral and an electrolyte. It helps your muscles work, including the muscles that control your heartbeat and breathing.Potassium comes from the food you eat.

Your body uses the potassium it needs. The extra potassium that your body does not need is removed from your blood by your kidneys.

When you have kidney disease, your kidneys cannot remove extra potassium in the right way, and too much potassium can stay in your blood.

When you have too much potassium in your blood, it is called high potassium, or hyperkalemia. Having too much potassium in your blood can be dangerous.

High potassium can even cause a heart attack or death! Unfortunately, many people do not feel symptoms of high potassium until it’s too late and their heart health worsens.

Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to the use of neutral venues where necessary in order to complete the 2019-20 season, but have delayed a decision on how to end the campaign if it is cut short.

The use of neutral venues has been a hugely controversial topic in the English top flight since the season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs were told at the start of May the only way to complete the season would be to play all the remaining 92 matches at eight to 10 approved neutral venues. A number of sides, including Brighton and Watford, said doing so would put the integrity of the competition in question.

Disturbed by the incessant rape in Nigeria, the Mothers, and Marginalised Advocacy Centre, MAMA Centre has called for criminal justice, stringent punishment and sincere policy to address the poor response to reported cases of rape with subsequent maiming and killing of victims.

Making this call on Wednesday, in a press statement made available to Vanguard, the Executive Director, MAMA Centre, Barrister Ola Onyegbula decried the horrific trend in rape prevalence across the country.

She regretted that despite the increase in cases of rape the response by various authorities including ill-thought commentaries by individuals remains disproportionate.

She said: “We are perturbed that such traumatic and injury-inflicted moments are allowed to drag or go unpunished in most cases without adequate policy response to sanction and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.

Condemning all forms of rape, Onyegbula said poor policy response in institutionalizing proactive measures, enabling reporting system as well as inadequate judicial interpretation of processes and laws to sanction offenders have continued to pave way for recurring incidence at all lev.....

PoliticsFederal Government To Engage Volunteers For House-to-house Sensitisation by Expressclickin0(op): 11:13am On Jun 03, 2020
The Federal Government is to engage community volunteers on house-to-house sensitisation on the dangers and spread of COVID-19.
Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, at the Presidential Taskforce (PTF), briefing on COVID-19.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), reports that Nigeria currently has 10,578 confirmed CCOVID-19 cases in 35 States and FCT, of which 3,122 have been treated and discharged.
NAN reports that Nigeria recorded 299 deaths.
Ehanire said that the ministry was working with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, (NPHCDA) to finalise plans on the engagement of existing community volunteers and agents to conduct house to house sensitisation on COVID-19 at the community level.
He said that this would be done in “high burden” Local Government areas of Nigeria, since about 20 LGAs contribute nearly 60 per cent of the COVID-19 positive cases.
“The COVID-19 burden is, as we know not evenly distributed within the country, with Kano and Lagos bearing the highest burden.
“A team from the FMoH, led by the ED of NPHCDA and comprising doctors from Departments of Family Health, Hospital Services and Public Health and NCDC, is in Lagos on an appraisal visit, during which a situation analysis will be conducted.
“The team will also visit the contiguous Ogun State on the same mission. The visits are in continuation of similar useful initiatives in the past to Kano, Katsina Sokoto, Jigawa, Gombe, and Borno, to share experience and ideas, align strategy and support each other,” he said.
The minister said that the ministry would continue to advocate for states to strengthen their response activities and have begun a program to strengthen the capacity of all Federal Healt.....

This is the second-highest daily figure recorded by the centre after it announced 553 confirmed cases on Saturday 30th May 2020, since the outbreak of the pandemic in Nigeria.

No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

Till date, 10578 cases have been confirmed, 3122 cases have been discharged and 299 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory

The 416 new cases are reported from 20 states – Lagos (192), Edo (41), Rivers (33), Kaduna (30), Kwara (23), Nasarawa (18), Borno (17), FCT (14), Oyo (10), Katsina (7), Abia (5), Delta (5), Adamawa (4), Kano (4), Imo (3), Ondo (3), Benue(2), Bauchi(2), Ogun (2), Niger (1)

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed the “restrictive opening” of worship centres but with a caveat that relevant containment protocols against the Covid-19 be respected in line with the agreement reached between the Presidential Taskforce PTF on Covid-19 and the state goverments.

The PTF which disclosed this on Monday during its daily briefing also announced the second phase of its eased lockdown which would be in place for four weeks.

The initial six-week eased lockdown would end by midnight of Monday, but the Presidential Taskforce PTF on Covid-19 said the pandemic is still very potent as Nigeria has not reached the peak of infection.

The new phase of the lockdown also places a ban on interstate movement, gatherings with more than 20 people among others.

While it said the states can relax the restrictions placed on religious houses, the PTF, however, reviewed the 8pm to 6pm curfew imposed on the country to now take place between 10pm and 4am.

It said since the transmission has gotten to the community level, and that it is expected that states and local governments now drive the process in their areas of responsibility.

The PTF also announced the full opening of banks and the financial services sector but stated that schools remained closed until medical experts give the nod for reopening.

It added that the aviation industry is taken steps to see how domestic flights can commence as from June 21.

PoliticsWill Atiku Take Another Shot At The Presidency? by Expressclickin0(op): 12:55pm On May 25, 2020
Quietly, there seems to be some political re-alignments and strategizing going on by some politicians angling to contest the 2023 presidential election.
While it is an open secret that some politicians are beginning to tinker with the idea of setting up structures across the country, some others are in open consultations, reaching out across the political aisle and setting up outfits.

There is no doubt that 2023 will be an interesting year, especially in the All Progressives Congress, APC, where interests from some of the party chieftains from the North, Southeast, Southsouth and Southwest promises to shake the party to its foundations with many predicting breakages and dislocation.

The APC has performed dismally and abysmally and clearly not provided the ‘change’ it promised Nigerians when it took over the reigns of power in 2015. Whether in the economy, education, health, infrastructure, sports, technology, employment and above all in tackling insecurity, it is one tale of failure after another.

It, therefore, brings the question of credibility and competence as we look up to 2023. Again, the stakes would be high and it will be up to Nigerians to make a decision on the future of the country.

Indeed, our political trajectory since 2015 has been all but satisfactory and hence makes that electioneering year a more than passing interest for every concerned Nigerian.
While the politicians, especially in the APC, are preparing for an obvious “roforofo”, one name that is being linked for a comeback on the other side of the divide is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa.

Since the grapevine have him as getting interested, it is said that it is sending political jitters to folks in power as they continue to chew on the possibility of him contesting, as well as the potentialities and power such ambition will always have. And the fears are for good reas......

TravelCoronavirus Update: Spain To Welcome Foreign Tourists Back From J by Expressclickin0(op): 12:07pm On May 25, 2020
Spain, on Monday, urged foreign tourists to return from July as one of Europe’s strictest lockdowns eased, with streets gradually filling again and some pupils returning to school.

The world’s second-most visited nation closed its doors and beaches in March to handle the COVID-19 pandemic but has seen out the worst and plans to lift a 14-day
quarantine requirement on overseas arrivals within weeks.

“It is perfectly coherent to plan summer vacations to come to Spain in July,’’ Tourism Minister, Reyes Maroto, told radio station Onda Cero as Spain geared up to salvage a tourism industry that normally draws 80 million people a year.

The hard-hit capital Madrid is coming back to life on Monday, with people allowed back into its main Retiro Park and a few bars and restaurant terraces reopening.

“This is great, I was really looking forward to it.
“And so was my dog!’’ said interior designer, Anna Pardo, walking her pet in the sunshine in the Retiro.
Strolling, jogging and chatting, Madrilenos passed through the park’s shaded alleys or stopped for a moment to enjoy its small lake, still devoid of the usual rowing boats.
More cars buzzed through streets.

Though bars and restaurants are now allowed to open terraces at 50 per cent capacity but cannot welcome clients indoors, few restarted in Madrid on Monday morning, as businesses weighed the value of catering to just a few custo.....

PoliticsCoronavirus: CBN And Emefiele’s Proactive Leadership by Expressclickin0(op): 2:36am On May 25, 2020
THE Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has always played central and critical roles in upholding and driving the economy through monetary policies, but it is apparent that the Bank has become more vibrant, proactive, and innovative under the leadership of the present Governor, Godwin Emefiele. With every sense of responsibility, as financial market and economy enthusiast, Emefiele’s patriotic zeal, energetic burst and innovative capability is noteworthy.

CBN under his leadership has become a repository of innovative ideas and dynamism as the Bank confronts some of the toughest challenges witnessed in the Nigerian economy. Emefiele adopted the neo-liberal approach to the art of central banking having recognised the global change in the theory and practice of central banking.

According to experts, “the neo-liberal approach is idiosyncratic and dramatically different from the historically dominant theory and practice of central banking, not only in the developing world, but notably, in the now developed countries themselves.”

Central banks in developing countries frame their monetary and credit policies in such a way that larger and desired quantities of bank credit go to priority sectors such as agriculture, cooperatives, small industries and export trade.

They adopt the policy of controlled expansion of bank credit, to undertake direct financing of development projects by lending liberally to those institutions which provide development finance.

CBN under Emefiele has been ‘fighting’ aggressively on virtually all fronts to reposition and restore stability and dignity of the Nigerian economy.
The gains were becoming obvious before the COVID-19 pandemic which inflicted huge damages in the global economy and triggered a shift from...
