This is because SC chromosome contains a S- Sickle and C-chronic alpha and beta heamoglobins. Individuals with SS and SC sanaemic usually have anaemia as a result of sickling of their red blood cells under condition of low oxygen tension and thus, can not survive under such condition. It's not advise for couple to get married because they have 50 per cent chance of giving birth to a child with Sickel Cell Anaemia(SC).
