The 18-year-old made his senior debut for Antonio Conte’s side at the end of last season in a 1-1 draw with Premier League champions Leicester City. The defender scored in finals of both the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League last season and has been training with Conte’s first team squad during the pre-season. And the Italian’s clearly been impressed with what he’s seen having handed Tomori a long-term deal. ‘It’s good for me, a confidence booster knowing I did well last year and being rewarded with a new contract,’ said Tomori. ‘Now I’ve got to improve and show my worth. ‘It’s been good to spend the pre-season with the first team, to learn from the older players and know what it’s like to be on a tour and see how they are preparing for the season.’ http://www.fidelisarimahblog.com/2016/08/chelsea-defender-fikayo-tomori-signs.html

John Michael Nchekwube Obinna has been a Chelsea midfielder for the last 10 years, although you’ll know him as John Obi Mikel. But the Nigerian has officially changed his name, 13 years on from when he began to be known by his long-term moniker. As reported by the London Evening Standard, the Nigerian FA made an error when submitting Mikel for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championship, naming him as “Mikel” instead of “Michael.” And now, after going by either “Mikel John Obi” or “John Obi Mikel” during his Chelsea days, the Nigeria midfielder has finally had his name changed to the former. Per the piece, Mikel said the mistaken name had a “special ring to it,” which is why he adopted it following the clerical faux pas. He’s also set to continue wearing “Mikel” with the accompanying No. 12 on the back of his Blues jersey this season. The Nigeria international has been a longstanding member of the Blues squad, having joined from Lyn a decade ago. Now 29, he's one of the senior members at Chelsea and has been named as the captain of the Nigeria Olympic team for the upcoming Games in Rio de Janeiro, per Aanu Adeoye of Goal.com. http://www.fidelisarimahblog.com/2016/08/john-obi-mikel-officially-changes-his.html

An Egor Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo, on Friday sentenced 40-year-old Lucky Idahosa to 14 years imprisonment for raping his 17-year-old daughter. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Igho Braimah, jailed the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charge. The convict had in the plea told the court that he committed the act for money ritual. Braimah said that no matter what a father considered opportunity to become rich, he should not yield to the temptation of nursing idea of having canal knowledge of “his blood’’, let alone “really doing it’’. Consequently, she sentenced the accused to 14 years jail term. The prosecutor, Mr Osaretin Ogiehon, had told the court that the accused committed the incest sometime in June, 2016. He said that act, which was done without the consent of the girl, took place at their 37, Upper S and T Barracks Street, Off Uselu-Lagos Road, Benin home. The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened section 358 of the Criminal Code. A woman named Gloria has been arrested by the police after she blinded one of the eyes of her 12-year-old houseboy identified as Peter, following brutal and frequent torture. Gloria had employed Peter who is from Togo to work as her housemaid at 14b, Olu Akerele Street, Balogun Bus Stop off Awolowo Way, Ikeja area of Lagos State but the minor had been suffering severe beating in the hands of the woman. In one of such cruel beatings, Peter has lost his eye. Reports say the last event which broke the camel’s back was when Gloria returned from an outing and realised Peter did not wash a kettle properly. She was said to have descended on the boy and in the process, injured his eye. Concerned residents said they could no longer withstand her cruelty so they reported the case to the police and the woman was arrested. A resident who pleaded anonymity said the woman was well known for being violent and was avoided by everyone in the area. He said, “If the boy comes to watch television with them in the parlor, he would be beaten. On school days, you will see the boy leaving home around 9.30a.m. “We feared the unexpected with the manner the woman used to beat the boy. He has a deep sore on his leg. When we asked him about it, he said it was burnt from fire. He said the swollen eye was caused by beating from his madam for not washing a kettle properly. “He has been subjected to violence for a long time. You know everybody used to mind his or her business in the compound. When I saw the boy last, he was looking sickly. Hence I decided to seek help from the appropriate agency. “This is an ideal case of child abuse and child labour. We need the intervention of child protection network in his case,” the resident added. http://www.fidelisarimahblog.com/2016/07/woman-in-lagos-tortures-blinds-12-year.html
