First, you said "protest in your region." I pointed out that even Tinubu didn't protest in his region. Now you're saying he protested in his region and then moved it to Abuja. So, why did he leave his region to go to Abuja to protest? Why didn't he restrict his protest to his region? Because, last I checked, Abuja is in the North Central zone. Is Tinubu from the North Central?

PoliticsRe: Why Are Tinubu Supporters Afraid Of Protests? by Factcheck0001: 3:55pm On Sep 11, 2025
Bobloco:
You say protest in your region, like bad governance has borders. Last I checked, Tinubu isn’t a regional president, he’s the President of Nigeria. If his policies affect all Nigerians, then all Nigerians have the right to protest anywhere in the country. That’s how democracy works. Don’t try to rewrite the constitution. If you want protests restricted by region, go ahead and sponsor a bill. Until then, sit this one out.

Tinubu protested as an opposition leader, He protested in Abuja and Lagos. Have you conveniently forgotten #OccupyNigeria? He didn’t say, Let me stay in Lagos because Jonathan is from Bayelsa. So stop twisting history to fit your weak narrative.

You say clean your house first, but you’re backing a government that has turned the whole country into a dumpsite. Before pointing fingers, ask yourself, is your own region free from insecurity, banditry, and corruption?

Protest is a constitutional right, and it will be exercised wherever injustice exists not just where it makes you feel comfortable.
tinubu protested in his region which Lagos is part of n moved it to Abuja.

U chinedu can protest in anambara n move d rest to Abuja, so protest in your region n if e pepper u reach body move d rest to Abuja

PoliticsRe: Obi Of Lagos Was A Business Event, Police Acted In Error! by Factcheck0001: 12:04pm On Sep 11, 2025
shortgun:
The recent arrest of Engr. Chibuke Azubike and others in connection with the so-called “installation of the Obi of Lagos” has stirred controversy across Nigeria. While police authorities have claimed the organizers were attempting to install an unrecognized traditional ruler, a closer look at the facts especially the official invitation suggests that the police acted in error. What was branded as a criminal attempt at impersonation was, in reality a business event centered on real estate development.

The widely circulated invitation card for the September 13th event bore a Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number (RC: 11,534) — an unmistakable indicator that the promoters were registered as a business entity. No traditional chieftaincy installation in Nigeria is conducted under a CAC business registration. This already distinguishes the event as corporate, not traditional.

The invitation also explicitly described the program as “The Unveiling of the Prototype of a ₦1.5 Billion Palace.” The key word here is prototype — a technical business and architectural term, referring to a design model for real estate projects. It is standard practice in property development to unveil prototypes to attract investors and showcase planned facilities....prototype in simple terms means a sample.

Far from being a purely cultural or traditional agenda, the project as listed in the invitation included:

An Office Complex

An Event Center

A Guest House for Igbos in Distress

A Shopping Plaza

These are clearly commercial facilities forming part of a real estate project. They bear no resemblance to the paraphernalia of a traditional stool.

Critics have pointed to the use of the title “Obi of Lagos State” and the reference to “Ofala Festival” as proof of an attempted installation. However, such phrasing can reasonably be interpreted as cultural branding, not a legal or political claim.

In Nigeria, it is common for individuals and organizations to adopt nicknames, cultural identities and festival themes as part of business promotions. From “King of Boys” in the entertainment industry to “Argungu Festival” branding in Kebbi, culture and commerce often intersect without implying impersonation or usurpation of authority.

It is important to distinguish between impersonation, which involves deliberate deception for unlawful gain and self-acclamation, which is an expression of identity. The invitation never claimed official recognition from Lagos State’s traditional council.
Instead, it framed a business prototype launch using cultural expression as a promotional hook.

By storming the venue, sealing it off, and arresting the organizers, the police may have acted prematurely and without sufficient evidence of criminal intent. If there were concerns about the use of the title “Obi of Lagos,” the appropriate step would have been a civil petition or injunction, not a heavy-handed crackdown that undermines both business and cultural freedoms.

Nigeria cannot afford to criminalize entrepreneurship and innovation especially in a struggling economy. If every business that incorporates cultural themes into its branding is treated as criminal, it sets a dangerous precedent.

What the “Obi of Lagos” saga demonstrates is not a crime of impersonation but rather the dangers of misinterpretation and overreach.
The event was by the evidence of its own invitation, a business prototype unveiling with cultural flavoring.

The police would do well to distinguish between genuine threats to public order and the lawful exercise of business and cultural expression. Anything less risks eroding public trust and discouraging investment in Nigeria’s business landscape.
whatever u want to do, go n do it in d south east.

I believe that's not too hard to ask
PoliticsRe: Why Are Tinubu Supporters Afraid Of Protests? by Factcheck0001: 11:50am On Sep 11, 2025
Bobloco:
In the wake of global protests most recently the spirited demonstrations in Nepal, Nigeria’s ruling elite and their most vocal supporters seem increasingly nervous. The mere mention of protest now triggers fear-mongering, threats, and desperate attempts to silence dissent. One recent example is comedian-turned-political-influencer Seyi Law, a staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who warned Nigerians calling for protests to learn from Libya.

But what exactly should Nigerians learn? That asking for good governance is dangerous? That protesting economic hardship is now a crime? Or that authoritarian regimes survive only when the people are too afraid to speak?

This reaction is not just undemocratic, it is steeped in hypocrisy.
Tinubu himself built much of his political relevance by using protest and civil disobedience as tools of resistance. He was a key figure during the 2012 fuel subsidy protests under President Goodluck Jonathan. In Ojota, he funded, organized, and marched with the masses against the removal of subsidy a policy he now ruthlessly enforces, with far worse consequences and even less transparency.

If Tinubu were in opposition today, he would be leading protests against this very government against soaring inflation, a collapsing currency, skyrocketing fuel prices, mass unemployment, and growing insecurity. His political playbook was written in the language of resistance. Yet today, his allies treat protest as rebellion and activism as treason.

So why the sudden change?
The truth is simple: what Tinubu’s supporters fear is not chaos, they fear accountability.

Protests expose the those in power. They draw attention to failed policies, broken promises, and a growing disconnect between leaders and the people. Tinubu’s camp fears Nigerians are waking up to the truth that docility is not peace, and silence is not support.

Using Libya as a scare tactic to silence Nigerians is not only dishonest, it’s deeply insulting. Libya didn’t collapse because citizens protested, it collapsed because of an unyielding regime that refused reform, clung to power, and met dissent with brutality. Ironically, that’s the very behavior protests are meant to stop.

Nigerians have a proud tradition of protest, from fighting colonial rule, to resisting military dictators, to opposing unjust economic reforms. If democracy is to mean anything, it must include the right to speak out, to organize, and to protest.

So, again, why are Tinubu, the APC, and Agbadoos so afraid of protests? Because they know their government cannot survive real scrutiny. Because they know their house is built on the same shaky foundations they once stood outside protesting against. And because this time, they know the people are waking up and losing their fear.
nobody is afraid of protest, all we are saying is go n protest in your region.

U mentioned Tinubu, when tinubu was in opposition n he protested, he did it in his own region n not another man's region.

So I don't think it's bad if charity begin at home for u people coupled with the fact that u have many things to protest against in your region

Sit at home
Gentle d Yahoo n his boys
Riff Raff's sacking communities
Endless kidnap by locals
Cannibalism n co
Bad governance
Corruption
Sales of fake products n baby factory

Y leave all these things happening in your region n claim u want to protest in another man's region?

No b hypocrisy b that?

Clean your house first before saying u want to clean another man's house

I believe that's not too hard to ask

PoliticsRe: Lagos, Historically Benin And Culturally Awori. by Factcheck0001: 10:56am On Sep 10, 2025
omoredia:
When we weigh the historical evidence (oral tradition + documented history + linguistics), the Benin/Edo origin of “Eko” as a “war camp” is considered stronger than the Awori/Yoruba “camp/settlement” version.

Here’s why:

---

1. Early Control of Lagos (15th–16th century)

Historical records show that the Benin Kingdom expanded westward during the reign of Oba Orhogbua (mid-1500s).

Benin warriors established a military outpost on Lagos Island to control trade routes and collect tribute.

The Oba of Benin appointed a military administrator (called an “Eletu Odibo”) to govern the area.

This aligns with the interpretation of Eko as a “war camp” in Edo.

---

2. Oral History & Naming

Lagos oral tradition (especially from Benin sources) consistently states that the Oba of Benin named the settlement Eko when it became a military camp.

The Yoruba Awori were already living there, but the name “Eko” was imposed through conquest and administration, making it a political name, not just a descriptive one.

---

3. Linguistic Strength

In Edo (Bini), Eko indeed directly translates to “camp” or “encampment,” often military in sense.

In Yoruba, ẹ̀kọ́ has meanings like to gather, to learn, or to be trained (also the word for pap/fermented maize meal). But the usage of Eko to mean “settlement” is less direct and less common.

This makes the Edo origin linguistically tighter.

---

4. European Accounts

Early Portuguese records from the 15th–16th centuries confirm that the Benin Kingdom was administering Lagos (Eko) before colonial Lagos emerged.

They describe Lagos Island as a tributary state of Benin, not Awori, in terms of political control.

---

Conclusion

✅ The Benin (Edo) origin of Eko as “war camp” is better supported by historical, political, and linguistic evidence.
⚖️ The Awori/Yoruba origin reflects the fact that they were the indigenous settlers, but their explanation of Eko as “settlement” is more cultural than historical.

So, historically: “Eko” = war camp (Benin Edo origin).
Culturally: Yoruba still claim it as “our settlement.”.

So anybody that is not Benin and to a lesser extent Awori has no historical or cultural claim to Lagos.
