The presidency is about strong personality, good economic policies and ability to build strong trade relationships with economies that can support your home economy. It isn't about being gifted in oratory skills alone. Yemi Osinbajo sits pretty above Adesine because apart from being eloquent, he had been saddled with such responsibility a few times in the past. Sadly, the 8 years of his vice presidency did little or nothing to improve the country. Maybe not totally his fault because as much as he was the VP, we all know that the North and their Cabals don't joke with power. Who is a functioning VP when the late Abba Kyari was leading the kitchen cabinet of the president?
Adesina on the other hand falls in the category of the Okonjo Iwealas. Brilliant heads, knowledgeable about policies, trade relationships and all. I think people like that fit best in a functioning VP roles where they are saddled with seeing how the home economy grows, while the president deals majorly on security issues and as well building relationships with other nations that will benefit the country.
Also, you do not need to be a governor first before you can be a good president. So, saying he should try governorship first before transiting to presidency is not a point at all. Are we saying we can only make former governors president before we can progress? How many governors in the history of Nigeria has performed well enough to be confidently considered for presidency? Apart from some of the '79 to '83 state governors that duly and truly SERVED, 2000s governors till date have been mostly trashes. Apart from the late Umaru Yar'adua who tried considerably in the short space, I cannot think of any other governor who can be confidently considered for the post of presidency.
Sadly, seeing how our political clime is in Nigeria, the control of power by the "godfathers" and "powers that be" wouldn't allow people like the Adesinas,Okonjo Iwealas, Osinbajos to lead us especially if it is against their selfish interests. Except though, they are ready to do YES DADDY. It takes someone with a strong will to lead as COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES. That title alone says a lot about the presidency.
Strong as Asiwaju is, there are sure challenges ahead. What is keeping him afloat sure is his control of the National Assembly as there are cracks in his political circle. Lagos is having her own issues with the House of Assembly saga, the many divisions in the ruling APC and not forgetting grouses with some of the elites.
On a final piece, as a people we are not ready. You will hardly find anyone amongst us who isn't tribalistic. We are so divided that unity seems VERY FAR from us. It will take a great deal of reorientation, apologies here and there, true federalism and LOVE to get the people of this nation together. It's sad that we are really at the VERY low in terms of national unity. It will really take a lot. Like Pastor Jerry Eze's program slogan though, WHAT GOD CANNOT DO DOES NOT EXIST.
