The acid in orange makes it possible for it to generate electricity✌, implying that any acidic fruit can generate electricity� But first, what is the science behind making fruit batteries? An orange battery is a simple battery often made for the purpose of education. Typically, a piece of zinc metal (such as a galvanized nail) and a piece of copper (such as a copper wire) are inserted into an orange and connected by wires. Power generated by reaction of the metals is used to power a small device such as a light emitting diode (LED). Materials: 5 Oranges Black electrical tape Five zinc-plated nails Five pieces of copper wire A very small low power electronic device like digital wrist watch, calculator, thermometer, remote control and an LED.
