The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has hailed the judgement of Election petition tribunal sitting in Ilorin which upheld the election of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as the duly elected Senator representing Kwara Central senatorial district.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party said the judgement is an affirmation of the mandate freely entrusted with the Senate President by the good people of Kwara Central senatorial district.

“Kwara APC received with delight the judgement of the Election petition tribunal sitting in Ilorin which upheld the electoral victory of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

“This significant judgement is an affirmation of the mandate freely entrusted with the Senate President by the good people of Kwara Central senatorial district.

“Meanwhile, It should also be noted that the court judgement is consistent with the wishes of the good people of Kwara State.”, the statement read.

Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has declared that his administration will not continue with the payment of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB fees for final year students of secondary schools in the state.

Speaking at Sada Primary School in Kankia town, during the Enrolment Drive Campaign, Masari said his administration would not sustain the payment of the examination fees, adding that the payment had not yielded the desired result.

“You pay exam fees for a student who spends four years at home not attending school only to come and sit for the examination”, Masari said, adding that he is aware of some staff who are trying to instigate students to protest against the planned suspension.

Governor Masari, who said his administration is committed to enhancing education in the state, added that Girl-child education is second to none because it contributes immensely to sound upbringing of children.

He noted that his administration is out for change and is not unmindful of the fact that the ox of some persons may be gored.

It was gathered that the immediate past administration of former governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema had introduced the policy of paying examination fees for students taking WAEC, NECO and NABTEB and it sustained the policy which was widely viewed as a relief to parents.

However, upon assuming office, Governor Masari hit hard at the policy, insisting that it has not yielded the desired result as statistics of WAEC and even NECO results for students in the state indicated poor performances.

The Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, has approved Wednesday, October 14, as public holiday in commemoration of the New Islamic Year 1437AH.

In a press release signed by his spokesperson, Baba Dantiye, the governor congratulated the people of Kano and all the Muslim Umma for witnessing the New Year.

He also used the period to condole with the families of those who lost their lives in the two incidences in Saudi Arabia which led to the deaths of so many people and prayed for the quick recovery of those that sustained injuries.

He also appealed to the people to use the public holiday in offering prayers, to the Almighty Allah for peace and prosperity in Kano state and the country as a whole.

He then reassured the people that the state government will continue to work hard towards improving the living standard of the people especially by according education both Islamic and Western they priority they deserve.

Iran’s parliament has passed a bill supporting a nuclear deal with world powers, amounting to a victory for the government over conservative opponents of the agreement and clearing the way for it to be implemented.

Many legislators strongly opposed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that President Hassan Rouhani’s government reached with world powers on July 14, and Tuesday’s vote removes an obstacle to putting the agreement into practice.

“Members of parliament made a well-considered decision today showing they have a good understanding of the country’s situation,” Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, government spokesman, said in a televised news conference after the vote.

The bill was passed with 161 votes for, 59 against and 13 abstentions, state news agency IRNA said.

It had passed a preliminary vote on Sunday by a smaller margin, and will now be submitted to a clerical body for final approval and passage into law.

The bill stipulates that inspectors from the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, need approval from a top Iranian security body before visiting military sites, leaving the possibility that disagreements could still arise.

Western diplomats said last month that IAEA inspectors, who are tasked with verifying member states are not developing nuclear weapons, will have access to military sites where Iranian technicians are taking swipe samples.
