EgunMogaji: I'm currently doing this in parts of my compound.
I chose to do regular concrete, not stamped but patterned, over interlock. With interlock, even if you use plastic membrane, sand can still gather on top of the membrane between the bricks and allow seeds to germinate. It will require constant maintenance.
You should consider your compound usage and amount of time you will use to maintain it.
Good luck on your decision. Hmm... You're yet to see how my interlocking was done. In fact, my contractor never saw where interlocking was done the way I did mine. I closely monitored it. I first used 90 tonnes on stone based materials rammed, soaked and compacted. Then followed with 5 inch leveling with stone dust and membrane before laying the machine made interlocking. No plant can ever spur from anywhere. Never! |

EgunMogaji:

Abeg make I find small space to faint With the size of your house, this is cheap. Roof carcass is very tricky. It's either you are on ground or you give it to roof experts. My advice is to contact First Aluminum and ask for their roof guys to do the carcass. Any mistake is going to cost you a lot of money to solve. It happened to me. I had to pull down the entire roof after the fool claimed he finished the woodwork. Don't let that happen to you. You need professionals to interpret the roof plan. A lot of people don't know the roof is the most difficult aspect of the building. It is very tricky. |

We have a bad president at the helm. A wicked man that I regret to have supported. He cares about no life. The only reason he's being seen in the last two weeks is because he's going for reelection and looking for vote. If not, he wouldn't have visited Plateau, Taraba and Benue. A wicked president with no human feeling. |

Yet you are celebrating and gloating over a lesser achievement when you are yet to catch-up with that.
Learn to gloat with pride.
Yorubas create standards for Africa without regards to anyone, while you clansmen always try to reference your latter day achievements with respect to Yorubas.
Why must you always celebrate your success in comparison to Yorubas?
Now that you have called us to see your achievement, we congratulate you for almost catching up, but almost isn't near enough. The person you responded to is famously known to be a tribal supremacist. He's an idiot.... |

EgunMogaji: I'll never accept this over here but na Naija we dey I had same problem. I didn't even see it when I visited Nigeria. I eventually saw the mistake in one of the old pictures. My contractor who happens to be in property section in nairaland hates when someone points out his mistakes. I dislike such a trait. I asked him and the kitchen designer who is also a Nairalander to find the way to redo that portion of the cabinet and countertop. It set us back another 140k to correct. Still not satisfactorily done to me after the correction. These Nigerian artisans and contractors don't really understand why we like things done with perfection. It is what we get where we reside. I was even shocked when my contractor told me things would have come out better if I had paid him more. Wtf? I paid premium. I paid what was asked for to do my project. |

InvertedHammer: / Actually Nigeria is where people who are struggling in diaspora go to feel important because of the exchange rate. No one comfortable abroad is contemplating moving to Nigeria. Some move after retirement to get more bang fpr their buck. They still run back overseas once in a while to cool off and for medical check ups. Quote me any day.
Not trying to rain on anyone's parade. Nigeria is a third world country where things taken for granted like good roads, electricity, clean water, etc become big deals. With very high unemployment rate, how can one say Nigeria is close to El Dorado? Even if you are comfortable, the level of poverty and suffering around could be depressing and unsettling. No man is an island.
"Everything has a price" is not the hallmark of a decent society. The price you are willing to pay, someone will be willing to pay more. That breeds anarchy, oppression and insecurity. It is illegal to possess assault rifle but herdsmen are fully strapped with AK-47 because everything has a price. Engaging a Nigerian in a debate will usually end up about money. Money is here and will always be after we die. Do you still wonder why Nigeria is a sh!thole and the citizens are regarded as almost worthless in every other country? / Succinctly put my man. God bless you. I was watching a video this morning about two policemen fighting a lady and her husband. In fact, policemen with AK-47 throwing rocks at husband and wife. Nigeria is nothing but shithole. I'm coming there to spend two weeks there next month with a whole lot of caution. Each time I think about visiting that country, I keep asking myself if I'm going to make it back to the US. I find that feeling worrisome. It shouldn't be but it is what it is. I just built a house there with the hope of visiting to relax twice a year, but my last experience of last year got me questioning the rationale behind the decision to build in a lawless nation as Nigeria. I saw unruly and lawless society during my last visit. Imagine drivers driving back on a one way bridge just because they encountered logjam. My brother was driving and these mescreants called Lasma stopped us and I was wondering why they stopped us, the next thing one of them said was to challenge me for a fight because in his warped mind, I was looking at him somehow. I was laughing in the car like never before. I don't see myself functioning in that society again. There is no place without dust. The so called rich man neighborhoods are nothing to write home about. Open gutters everywhere. This reminds me about one Igbo man lamenting while my flight was preparing to land at Ikeja airport. The man left Nigeria as a teenager like me and was visiting Nigeria for the first time in 23 years. He was asking loudly if Frankfurt, Germany we left seven hours ago wasn't occupied by human beings just as Lagos. The man was asking why the entire area was all red mud and dust. Looking down, the whole area was horribly muddy and dusty. Whereas Frankfurt we just left was all green and leafy. Aren't our politicians visiting Western nations? Go to common south Africa and see orderliness. I've been sick lately and the medical attention I got was second to none. I was supposed to travel to Nigeria on Dec 28 but I had to cancel. But my sickness became worse by early January and ended up in a ambulance at 1am taken to the emergency room. I was thinking this could have killed me if I had travel to Nigeria on Dec 28. Would I have been able to get good care if I had fallen ill while in Nigeria? All that was going through my mind. Other than good African dishes and pretty naija women, there is nothing else that appeals to me in Nigeria. Absolutely nothing...... I'm here now and never going to live in a lawless country. |

Sprumbabafather: Ol' boy, enough of stealing images from the net and placing them here to deceive people that you have a high taste. People like you have proven on here to not own up to #250k naira in their name and they are just flinging pictures upandan to cover their cash deficiency. Why not put you cash where your mouth is and invest in a Nigerian architect like Timtol?
Its good to have a wish list but stop pretending like you can afford a swimming pool on your top floor. Na so they tell me say one member here started flashing thousands of pictures and planning to build a house that will shame trump towers, but ended up building only a chicken coop mai guard house in the end with an uncompleted large courtyard that might be completed in 2045
I no mention names o Enough of this mocking oga. It is one thing to be throwing shades and it's another thing if what you're doing is fair or accurate. Let me tell you one thing that the person you're throwing shades at is not a poor man who can't necessarily complete his project. Living in the US and building a big house is not an easy endeavor. That person you're throwing shades at pays bills here running between $5000-$7000 per month. How many people back home living in an expansive duplex located in horrible neighborhood with zero amenities can actually afford to pay 300,000 naira a month in bills? |
