There was pandemonium in Osogbo on Wednesday as two kids of the same mother were burnt when Bovas filling station in front of Osogbo Grammar School in Osogbo went up in flames. It was gathered that the victims were children of the owner of the filling station. The mother of the burnt kids was also said to have suffered burns in the process of trying to rescue the kids. Although she was said to have succeeded in rescuing one but lost two other kids to the fire. The remains of the kids were said to have been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology morgue, while their mum was also taken to the same hospital in Osogbo for treatment. Some eyewitnesses said the woman and her three children were inside the mini market attached to the filling station when the fire started. The woman was said to have escaped with one of the kids but the other two kids were burnt alive. One of the eyewitness said the two kids hid beside a refrigerator inside the supermarket, but they were thrown off balance when the fire gutted the refrigerator and the compressor exploded. Another eye witness, Williams Ojo, said fire fighters arrived the scene late, saying that was why the fire was able cause so much damage. Ojo said the fire could have been caused by an electric spark from the refrigerator. He added that the damage had already been done before the arrival of the fire fighters. The Director of Fire Service in the state, Mr. Michael Ogundipe, while speaking with journalists confirmed the deaths. He said, “Two lives were lost in the fire. We have not detected the cause of the fire. We responded immediately we were called. We sent two vehicles. We have equipment but there was congestion on the road which slowed down their movement. “We met the fire burning but I observed that the construction of the building did not follow the guideline. There was no exit route. No fire extinguisher was there. They would have been able to battle the fire if they had extinguishers.” Fire fighters were still battling to put off the fire which also destroyed a Toyota Corolla as of the time of filing this report. Some sympathisers who spoke to our correspondent at the scene said the owner of the station was one of the most honest petroleum marketers in the state, saying he never sold beyond the government approved price of N87 per litre even at the height of fuel crisis. Some motorists also corroborated this while calling on security agencies to carry out proper investigation to know the cause of the fire. www.punchng.com/news/siblings-burnt-in-osun-filling-station-fire/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter cc: lalasticlala

No fewer than four offices in the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Alausa, Ikeja, were gutted by fire on Saturday, while property worth millions of naira was reportedly destroyed. The fire incident was the second in 24 hours in the Alausa area of the state. A fire on Friday razed a mechanic village a few meters away from the Alausa Secretariat, where the commerce ministry is located. The fire that razed the mechanic village on Ashabi Cole Street, Alausa, Ikeja, burnt 25 vehicles. It was gathered that the fire that gutted the ministry of commerce building started about 1pm. Although the cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained as of press time, sources in the ministry said the fire started from one of the offices in the four-storey building before spreading to other parts of the building. One of the sources said, “Nobody knew about the fire until a passerby, who had gone to do something in the area, raised the alarm. “A few of us were on the premises and we quickly rushed to the place, where we saw thick smoke billowing from some offices in the building. “We called the state emergency lines and soon after two tankers from the fire services arrived at the scene. “The firefighters were able to put out the fire eventually, but not before some offices had been razed. About four offices were affected, and they are saying that property worth millions was destroyed.” Our correspondent was unable to reach the Director of the State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe. However, a senior official of the service, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the outfit responded immediately it received the distress calls. “We responded with 10, 000 litres of water and put out the fire before it could do much damage,” he added. www.punchng.com/news/fire-guts-lagos-commerce-ministrys-building/ lalasticlala |

Even as a greenhorn, Precious Chukwu Eke’s stint as an actress still dazzles. The budding actress has cautioned producers who would approach her with scripts that may want her going nude or topless while on a movie set. Precious who is fondly called Orange Berry, made this known in a chat with HVP, after the conclusion of the production of the movie, “My Neighbor’s Wife”, in Owerri. She played the role of Suzan in the movie. Describing her role as “ challenging,” she said , “It’s so hectic because I saw myself doing a role that is not part of me. It’s not in any way known to be my kind of person, as it involves the character Suzan who happens to be a player. “I really love the character even with its challenge. I would want to play it over and over again, because it brought out the best in me. And guess what? It was a wrap for me, as my best was offered,” she said. The movie with the working title, “My Neighbor’s Wife”, and produced by Kingsley Okereke of the Divine Touch Productions received laudable praises from Precious who rated it as a big budget movie.” On her stance for a nude role, she stressed that her colour makes it impossible for her to wear revealing clothes on set. “Will I even say that I have a busty look that can’t fit such wears? But the truth remains that I can’t go with pant and bra on set.” Directed by Reginald Ebere, the movie starred the likes of Uche Ogbodo, Vitalis Ndubuisi, Andy Ike, Mimi Orjiekwe, Nina Bolanle, Shirley Igwe, Charles Billion, Osita Dike (Egbeigwe- Apama), Chinenye Uyanna, Adaeze Eluke among others. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/i-cant-go-with-pant-and-bra-on-set-precious-chukwu-eke/

This is Oyotunji village in South Carolina. The community was founded by a black America named Walter Eugene King who was born on October 5, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Eugene went to the Cass Technical High School and got fascinated by the African culture. He also got exposed to the Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe at the age of 20 which increased his love for the African culture, particularly that of the Yorubas. On August 26, 1959, Eugene became the first African born in America to become fully initiated into the Orisa- Vodun African priesthood by African Cubans in Matanzas, Cuba. This marked the beginning of the spread of Yoruba religion and culture among African Americans. With a few followers, and after dissolution of the Order of Damballah Hwedo, Eugene founded the Sango Temple in New York and incorporated the African Theological Arch Ministry in 1960. The Sango Temple was relocated and renamed the Yoruba Temple the same year. In the fall of 1970, Eugene founded the Yoruba Village of Oyotunji in Beaufort County South Carolina, and began the careful reorganization of the Orisa-Vodu Priesthood along traditional Nigerian lines. He was initiated to the Ifa priesthood by the Oluwa of Ijeun at Abeokuta, Nigeria, in August of 1972. He was named king of Oyotunji community in 1972 with the designation, His Royal Highness Oba (King) Ofuntola Oseijeman Adelabu Adefunmi I, born Baba Adefunmi. He later died and his son, Adefunmi Adejuyigbe took over as king. www.inspiredreporters.com/photos-see-the-village-in-america-where-the-yoruba-culture-is-being-practiced/

Seven persons died when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Ibadan-Ogbomoso road on Sunday. Also in Ogbomoso, a truck loaded with crashed in the Taki area of the town, spilling its content while residents of the area scooped fuel before security men arrived at the scene to disperse them. Eyewitness said apart from those who died in the accident, several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The eyewitness explained that the commercial bus had attempted to overtake a Sports Utility Vehicle along the bad portion of the narrow road but failed to accomplish the task before being faced with an oncoming truck. The resident, who identified himself as Tayo, said, “The bus was coming from Lagos, heading towards Ilorin. Another one died during the rescue mission by some people.
