Those that won't join us in calling for good governance but continue to play the ostrich or pat the present government behind the back in the face of very serious governance shortcomings should count their teeth with their tongues.

If you travel by road across the country from town to town you see all sorts of armed groups called 'vigilantes' taking over the roles of security agents and agencies.

These groups are not known by law yet they act in such capacity. This is state failure. Who funds these groups, who commands and directs them, what are their rules of engagement and most of all, who regulates them.

This is bringing a matchbox to dry tinder. It will only take one mistake, one miscalculation, one indiscretion and a full blown ethno-religious conflict can be ignited.

That is why I have continued to advocate for the restructuring of the country that will birth a new policing and security structure in Nigeria. One that will involve all the federating units, making it constitutional and legal. Having checks and balances and a uniform code of administration and operations.

So that I can sit in Sokoto or in Lagos and know what is lawful in Kebbi or Benue. And know that as a sojourner my security is guaranteed and I will receive a fair hearing as a non indigene or a non national.

There is so much work to be done. Unfortunately little is being proposed let alone done to address the challenges we wallow in. Poor governance in my opinion. Defeated citizenry, a certainty

Should in case this news is true it is a square peg in a round hole because the synergy, energy and cooperation between the minister of defense and the armed forces will be robustly, topnotch and additionally, it will be experience based. Hypothetically, his appointment will play a vital role: technically, physically and psychologically because he was formally part of the system and knows the onions of the system. It will be the first time in a long time that a full energize and experienced person is given that position and he is not a partisan politician.

Nigeria is a nation fighting for credibility on the world stage, yet somehow, in a moment demanding maturity, depth, and diplomatic steadiness, Reno Omokri has found his way onto an ambassadorial nomination list. If irony were a currency, this alone could fund the national budget.




For years, Omokri built his brand not on policy insight or statesmanship, but on street-corner showmanship, online trolling, and hyper-dramatic protests designed to trend rather than transform. He protested Buhari in front of Abuja House in London with more theatrics than a Nollywood audition. He later turned his sights on President Tinubu, hurling wild accusations and indulging in the kind of loud political mudslinging no serious diplomat would ever touch.

Now we’re expected to believe this same man, who spent years amplifying chaos, stoking division, and reinventing himself to suit the next political wind, is suddenly ambassadorial material? Nigeria deserves better than a professional provocateur performing diplomacy like a Twitter skit.

Ambassadors require emotional intelligence, restraint, composure, and the ability to build bridges even with opponents. Reno Omokri’s public record shows the opposite: impulsiveness, performative outrage, attention-seeking, and zero evidence of tact. His résumé boasts hashtags, alter egos, and paid mass protests, not diplomacy, negotiation, or refined statecraft.

Nigerians are looking to the Senate to show spine to declare, boldly and unapologetically, that the nation’s image is not a plaything for internet personalities seeking their next spotlight. The position demands gravitas, not gimmicks; credibility, not clout-chasing.

Reno Omokri has every right to political expression, but no claim to an ambassadorial seat. Not with his volatility, not with his inconsistency, and certainly not with the glaring absence of the diplomatic temperament such a role demands.

Nigeria cannot afford an ambassador who treats governance like content creation. The world is watching and the Senate must act accordingly.
