Good thread, but the Casper method in the first post is very old now, and signing into a third-party app with your Snapchat username and password is risky - the original post itself warns about accounts being blocked.

A simpler and safer way I use now for saving a Snapchat video or story is SnapDL, a free Snapchat video downloader that works in the browser. You just copy the link to the Snapchat video or story, paste it on the site, and download it to your phone or computer. There is no app to install and no need to hand over your Snapchat login.

One thing to keep in mind: only save videos and stories you have permission to keep, and respect the creator's privacy - this is best for your own snaps and public content you are allowed to save.

Thanks for explaining this so clearly. I had the same problem - I did not want to log into Instagram just to check a public story, and I definitely did not want my name showing up on the viewer list.

Another free option I have used for this is IgAnony, an anonymous Instagram viewer. You just open it in your browser, enter the username of a public account, and you can view their stories and highlights without logging into Instagram or creating an account. It is handy when you only want to check a public update quickly, and it also works for public accounts only, so private profiles stay private.

One tip from my experience: it works best for current stories and highlights, since regular stories disappear after 24 hours, just as you mentioned.

For TikTok specifically, I have found that a simple, dedicated tool works best when I just want to save a video I have permission to keep for offline viewing, rather than using a bigger all-in-one suite.
