Business / Recession-proof Businesses by felix1ng: 12:51pm On May 08, 2020
Recession-Proof Businesses

Some businesses seem to strengthen in times of recession. When
the economy starts to slow, people start looking around for ways
to cut back on expenses, and they give up the frivolous items in
favor of the basics.

Despite the recession, the health care industry is swelling with
opportunity. Health care is more expensive than ever, and the
health care community provides more services than ever. And, as
the baby boomers age, the market promises to grow ever larger for
products and service that help people live longer, live more
comfortably, and live more enjoyable in old age. While you may be
likely to come up with some astounding new medical breakthrough
in your garage, you may be able to profit from by establishing a
delivery service or selling health care products that will
generate hefty revenues.

As we said, people don't cut back on their intake of food just
because a recession is underway. Instead, they will cut back on
the fancy stuff and take a renewed look at how the basics can be
made to satisfy their need for variety. A fresh fruit and
vegetables always look good. If you have at least a small plot of
land you can grown enough food to make a surprisingly good
living.

Death is another part of the life cycle that isn't going to stop
for a recession, and a well-run funeral parlor will weather the
economic storms.

Debt collection is another area that remains steady in good times
or bad. If you like telephone work, you can develop a clientele
that will rely on you to collect on overdue bills through the
courts.

Plumbing, electrical, roof repair, termiting and other vital home
repair functions will continue to thrive in periods of recession.
If homeowners put off maintenance and repairs, it only means that
ultimately they will pay a higher price for a greater amount of
work.

In bad times, there are always ways to thrive, if you are
perceptive and agile. Never feel that because a recession is
under way that there are no opportunities open to you.

COSMETICS
In a difficult economy people will always look good, and like to buy a cheap cosmetics product.while you choose a soap that sold for $20 and option $100 soap.
Cosmetics can never be ignore in any difficult economy or in recession.Infact some people apply their facial treatments and make-ups several times a day.Of course difficult economy are no excuses for anyone to look ugly, people will always pay the price for retaining their good look.
A cosmetics business is therefore, a money –spinner any time.
Start a mini cosmetics manufacturing today, with little capital at home.Good luck.

DESINFECTANT
Disinfection has been defined as :
1. Killing or inactivating all diseases- causing organisms by chemical agents or physical procedures. 2. Removing or destroying pathogenic micro-organisms 3. Killing or irreversibly inactiving all causative agents of transmissible diseases.

Disinfectants destroy or irreversibly inactive infectious or other undesirable bacterial, pathogenic fungi or viruses on surfaces or inanimate objects.Agents for application to living tissues are referred to, as antiseptic.Common to all definitions is the fact that disinfection is directed only against organisms that are considered harmful.
Distinction should be made among disinfectant, sterilization and preservation.Sterilization refers to the complete destruction or irreversible inactivation of all micro-organism.Preservation is aimed at inhibiting multiplication of micro-organisms in materials that are likely to spoil, with activity extending over a relatively longer period.Sanitation is a term frequently used in English-speaking countries that refers to a disinfection procedure aimed at all micro-organism, undesirable and otherwise.
Disinfectant formulation generally must contain a combination of active ingredients to satisfy not only users demands, but also the appropriate test procedure. In addition, additives, must be incorporated to achieve good skin tolerance, material compatibility, cleaning powder and other goals.

INTRODUCTION

INDUSTRIAL

The world today is witnessing a tremendous technological growth.

Technology itself is the brainchild of man's intellectual endowment by the God almighty. He has imbued man with drive and spirit to explore to the fullest, all the wealth of creation. All that man needs therefore, is to discover the physical and mental capabilities and apply them on creation for his benefits.

This is the foundation of manufacturing tecnnology. The creatures living and non-living-are subjected to careful analysis in search of material (raw material) that is of technological relevance. These are refined, combined or transformed to a state in which it becomes maximally useful to man.It is only apposite therefore,to note that all technological inventions ranging from simple to complex ones, owe their existence to raw materials which abound in creation .

Expectedly, one of the shortcomings of most technological goods is depreciation or transformation in the course of consumption .These culminate in wastes. But technology has advanced further by designing means of containing these wastes. This is done through recycling the purported waste materials. Thus technology is just but a cyclic phenomenon-the raw materials are processed into finished goods, the are rendered waste products through consumption;and through process;the waste products are converted into raw materials. It has become clear therefore, that the main focus of technology is search for raw materials;this embraces both human and natural resources.Onefound, they are processed into the desired products.

Thus technology lays emphasis on the practice and application of applied science that has practical or industrial uses so as meet man's demands. The tendency of technology seeking practical and industrial expressions is the foundation upon which industrialization is predicted.Industrializationtherefore ,means the management of resources-human and material-as recommended by technologist.

Now consider the following expression (i)A+B=AB(ii)A+B+C=ABC.The first being that two substances.A and B are combined third ,AB which is the desired substance, isobtained. The third substance has the property of incorporating all the good qualities of both A and B into a single substance.AB gives maximum satisfaction to the consumer .The second means transformation, through interactionbetween A

and B,to yield desired C; different in every respect from both A and B.They summarize the technological process involved in manufacturing. In industries the raw material is fed into the machinery, observing the processing condtions eventually the products are turned out.

A look at the world today would reveal most painfully that Africa has not arrived technologically.Invie of this disturbing revelation;one would like to ask the following questions.

i) Are we possessive of sentiments that arenegative disposed towards technological growth?

ii) Is God prejudiced against us in the share of human and material resources?

iii) Or is it a problem that find expression in our not being able to positively motivate our selvesphysically, mentally and spiritually?

An attempt to answer these question objectively will show that God, in His infinite mercy,is more than fair to us. The human and material resources that abound in Africa, are the envy of even the industrialized countries rather ,the problem is with us.Come to think of it, what progresss can be expected from apeople who regard technology as taboo; some people who close thier eyes against their human and natural endowments? Virtually none; or little of any .This explains the poor and lamentable status of most Africa countries today.

But the trend must be reversed. We have remained in slumber for so long.We have all it takes -human and material resources for technological transformation.Happily the lord is moving, through P.A.L.I.P . to transform and project thispeople to technological glory Amen.We have to start fromsomewhere. This body is fullaware of our potentials in human and material resources can effectively be utilized only when we are technologically equiped and industrialized.Determination and commitment is the key word.

How does P.A.L.P wish to achieve this monumental goal ? This question seems baffling in view of the human and material demands of this drive .But by His grace,we shall share smiles of goal attainment.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT

For the purpose of this program,we have divided the manufacturing steps as dicussed in this part in to four:

1.Raw material/chemical

2.Formulation principles

3.Method/processing

4.Machinery/Equipment.

RAW MATERIALS/CHEMICALS

These are chemicals that are combined under prescribed conditions to give the desired product. It is important that the right chemicals and stipulated quantity are used in order to guarantee the quality of products.

FORMULATION

This is the ratio of percentage by weight of the added ingredient. This is simply the quantity of various materials needed to be combined to give the end product. The quantity must be adhered to strictly sinces the quantity of product may be compromised if altered.

METHOD

This refers to the productive steps to be observed in the course of producing the goodin question.During production a number of steps are involved;but they are carried out orderly-first thing first ,until the last stage is reached.

MACHINERY/EQUIPMENT

These are the materials, besides the chemicals, which are needed for the production of the finished goods. They could be machinesor simple apparatus. The machines come in various types and designs. But there are categorized into manual or Electric on account of power soures.

(a)Electric Machines: In this type of machine, the power source is electricity, which can be direct or alternating. The electrically poweredmachine usually combine many features that perform different operations such as boiling, mixing cooling etc.

(b)Manual machines:This type of machine relies on manpower or human raw energy for the power in order to perform the needed operations. For the fact that it depends on human energy there is a limit to the amount of components that can be fed into the machine and quantity of expected product.

In the course of production ,boiling, mixing, measuring ,cutting, grinding, drying, molding, fermenting, stamping, wrapping etc. operation are undertaken.Consequently, machines, which perform these operations, are designed to increase production rates.

The machines and equipment needed for any giving product are treated in every subject in this book. However, the major types of machines/equipment for most subjects are treated below:

1.Boiler:This is the equipment for boiling some of the chemicals to enable them undergoes the necessary changes in the formation of the product. This also involve source of generating heat.

2.Mixer:The mixerturns and chums the mix so to bring uniformity of property and homogeneity in the finished product. There exist electric and manual varieties. They are employed in mixing various chemicals for the formation of the product.

3.CuttingMachines:This is the machine designed to cut the finished products in to chosen size e.g. in soap production where the production is cut into laundry or bar forms.

4.StampingMachines:This is the machine used to insert the trade mark onthe product e.g soap.

5.GrindingMachine:This machine functions to grind the product into fine powder particles sizes so that dissolution in liquids is facilitated. e.g production of detergents.

6.DryingMachine:This machine helps to expel the residual liquid or moisture in the product e.g in the production of detergent.

OTHER EQUIPMENT

1.Coolingtank:This tank holds liquid which circulates around the mould contains liquid or vicious products, and enable cooling and solidification by heat exchange,e.gcirculating liquid around mould in candle production.

2.Mould:This is a specially designed container in which the product loosesheat, solidifies and takes shape.Themould gives shape to the product.Example are those employed in the manufacture of soap, candle, etc.

They are found on plastic ,wooden on metallic forms.Themould could be partitioned to give products with small dimension,as for the laundry soaps or designed to give large once e.g.the bar soaps or candle sticks.Themould differs from each other on account of the material used for construction.

3.Fermenting/Storage tank:This is a container where solid chemicals are dissolved in liquid or solvent to gives solution the right concentration. It is only when they aredissolved in solvent giving solutions that they become useful for the production process.Examples are caustic soda or sodium bicarbonate solution which are fermented in tanks before they are used for soap production .

4.Wrapper:This is the paper or cellophane covering for goods e.g soap ,candle etc.

5.Containers:This is used for packing and preserving goods e.g. soap, candle etc.

6. Carton:This is an open box paper, wooden or plastic-for carring the products. It is well labelled and useful for marketing the products;e.g.soap,candlejeleen, e.t.c.

7.Measuringinstrument:There are measuring instruments used in the manufacturing industry. The onesneeded in this program are:

i.Thermometer:This tells thedegree of hotness or coldness (temperature) of solutions or chemicals. It is particularly used where the temperature is important in the course of the manufacture of any goods.

ii.Hydrometer:This enables the manufacturer to know the specific gravity of a chemical or solution in using hydrometer, dip the narrow glass tubing in to the solution and release the rubber bulb held between your fingers . Then withdraw and raise the gauge on the liquid in the graduated cylinder to your eye level, and take your reading.

Note.If the gauge is above stated numeber on the scale of the hydrometer, its concentration is high ;but if below it,its concentrationis low.It is therefore very essential that you study the graduation of the hydrometer before use.For a given solution take and release about three times before you take your reading.

iii.Scale This enables the weight of substance to be read.

8.Heating system:This refers to the source of heat. This may be gas, wood, andelecticity. The heating system is sometimes very necessary in the manufacturing industry. This is because the heat being applied has the effect of increasing the internal molecules energies of reacting species. The resultant effect is increased in reaction rates.

It is equally used in cases where enhanceddissolution of solid chemical is needed .With the applied heat energy, the attractive forces between themolecles in the solid are weakened. The end result is the crumbing of crystalline structure with eventual mobility of the particles in the liquid.

Hence the solid dissolves in the liquid and forms solution.

Jobs/Vacancies / Job Opportunities Worldwide by felix1ng: 7:46pm On Feb 04, 2018
JOB OPPORTUNITIES WORLDWIDE

How about an exciting job overseas? Or even a rather
ordinary job overseas? It's certainly an appealing idea to
live and work in a foreign country. Something maybe everyone
considers at some time.

Foreign jobs offer not only an exciting and different
lifestyle. Many of them offer work in a warm and sunny
country. Many of those countries (but not all) offer wages
that are far higher than the U.K. So it could be a good
idea!

The purpose of this guide is to summarise the main
opportunities in the world at the moment for you to follow up
further. It's just intended to be a pointer. You can then
go and look in libraries for more detailed information.

DECIDING WHAT YOU CAN DO

Many talented countries will accept people with skills and
talents to offer, others are reluctant. For this reason,
it's often unrealistic to think of starting a whole new
career overseas. It can work, but it's much more difficult.

Hence the best thing is to work within the type of job you
already have skills, experience and qualifications in. This
will make job seeking far easier. The effect of this is that
you look for an overseas country where your skill is in
demand. Not a country you like and try to fit in!
Unfortunate, but this is the best way of doing things.

WORK PERMITS

Most countries will accept foreigners with job skills to
offer, but the chances of getting in vary. Some are eager to
attract other foreigners, some discourage them. Before even
looking for a job overseas, find out if a work visa and
permit is needed. And, not just that, but if there is any
realistic chance of getting one.

Virtually every country has an embassy in London, and they
usually public a sheet giving details of requirements.
Subsequently, a telephone call to the embassy will find out
if the chances of being accepted are realistic.

Most, but not yet all, EEC countries do not require U.K.
citizens to have entry visas or work permits. So you can go
and live there without consent. The catch is that you will
still need a residence permit, so check the chances of
getting one.

SOURCES OF FURTHER INFORMATION

After using this guide, you still need to go and get more
information. The availability of information varies as to
countries.

Some countries publish information bulletins on jobs in their
countries, available from embassies. Others don't, but you
can always ask for help.

Failing that, try libraries and bookshops. Most of the
better known countries have books, lesser ones don't. You
may have to adapt the ideas from tour guides in some cases.
In some countries there are specialist books to help you.

AROUND THE WORLD

The main point of this guide is to give you a quick pointer
to the countries of the world so that you can select one.

This is as follows, and provides a pointer for you to follow
to the countries with some openings, few or many. Countries
not listed generally have none or very, very few.

EUROPE

Belgium - Good potential. Good pay. Opportunities can be
limited.
Denmark - Good pay. High taxes. English widely spoken.
Good for professional jobs.
France - Very high pay. Modest taxes. Different culture.
Jobs limited.
W. Germany - Very high pay. Can be double U.K. Highish
taxes. High standard of living. Needs technical/skilled
people.
Greece - Low standard of living but great culture and
weather. Opportunities growing slowly. Pay low.
Italy - More advanced than generally known. Some technical
jobs available. North better.
Holland - Small country. Unemployment has been a problem.
Few opportunities.
Portugal - Slowly developing country. Good weather. Cheap
housing and prices. Very low wages.
Spain - Fast developing. Excellent weather/social life.
Still cheap. Wages acceptable.

MIDDLE EAST

In the past it has been a popular place for overseas living
and working due to the oil industry. This is receding
slightly and there are fewer people going. The heat, and the
often restricted social life, are the main reasons. But
wages are still very high.

Most opportunities are for men, virtually none for women.
These are mostly technical and engineering, usually for
employers in the U.K., which is the best way to get them.

The best countries to work in are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman,
Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UEA)
states.

Countries to be avoided include Iran, Iraq and Libya.

Egypt is interesting, but poor. Jordan is much
underestimated.

AFRICA
Kenya - One of the most developed African countries. Needs
skilled staff. Wages and living conditions are good for this
continent.
Nigeria - A more prosperous African country. Jobs in oil.
Attractive wages. Expensive and unappealing to live in.
S. Africa - Richest African country. Good jobs available.
Not as well paid as was. Political troubles.
Zambia - Rather underrated. Technical and agricultural jobs
available. A little backward.
Zimbabwe - Now starting to develop. More advanced than most.
A few jobs available.

NORTH AMERICA
Canada - Offers good potential for U.K. citizens seeking work
in virtually every sphere as in U.K. High wages and good
standard of living. Takes many immigrants yearly, but quite
difficult to get to. Get details from authorities.
U.S.A. - Very high standard of living. Good wages, but
nowadays difficult to get a visa to work there. Best way is
to get a job with a U.S. firm with a base in U.K. and then
get transferred, or a U.K. firm with an office in the U.S.A.

CENTRAL/SOUTH AMERICA

Most of the Central and South American countries will accept
foreign immigrants without too much trouble. Many skills are
in demand. The main snag is that wages are generally low,
even for good jobs. Living conditions range from poor to
satisfactory, depending on the country.

The best places to work in are the Caribbean Islands. After
that, countries like Mexico and Brazil. Central American
countries are generally to be avoided.

ASIA

Generally a much underrated area for immigration. Often
standards of living are quite good and jobs are generally
available for skilled and semi-skilled people. Wages are
generally low.

There are particular places that offer the best potential and
the best standards of living for foreigners. These are
principally Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore, and perhaps the
Phillipines. Hong Kong has problems regarding it's future.
Japan is good, but difficult for foreigners to find suitable
work in.
AUSTRALASIA

Australia - Generally one of the best places to move to.
Good wages. Good standard of living. Many immigrants are
taken in, but it is quite difficult to qualify. Get details
from the authorities in London. It's not as easy as it
seems. A complex system to gain admission is used.
New Zealand - A good alternative to Australia, but offers
less money and a slower pace. Some jobs not required, but
some professionals are in demand. Generally attractive
though.
Papua New Guinea - A small country, but rather underrated for
immigrants. Some well paid jobs are available and these are
sometimes advertised in the U.K. Not the most advanced
country though.

Other South Pacific islands offer interesting, if remote,
opportunities for people, especially in local administration,
government etc.

Jobs/Vacancies / Paper Recycling - An Easy Source Of Extra Money by felix1ng: 11:41am On Jan 14, 2018
One of the easiest (and best) ways of making extra money is by
collecting old newspapers and selling them to "recycling plant"
in your area.

Just look around your own home - in the garage or the basement.

What do you do with the old newspapers after you've read them?

Most likely they just pile up in a corner of the garage or
basement until one of your kids asks if he can haul them off for
the school or cub scout paper drive.

Or maybe your wife and kids get ambitious some weekend, clean out
the garage and haul all those newspapers off to the collection
truck at the local shopping centre.

It's true that selling stacks of newspapers you've accumulated
during the past couple of months or so won't make you rich, or
really amount of much extra income.

But think about the stacks of old newspapers you would have if you
were to collect and haul away for the people in your neighbourhood
- say a ten pound stack of newspapers from each house on your
street every Saturday.

The picture changes, doesn't it?

If you're serious, and get yourself properly organised, you can
easily make œ300 or more every weekend.

Right now, the going rate for old newspapers is about œ50 a ton,
depending upon your area.

Most recycling depots prefer the papers loose, rather than bundled
or sacked. Check with the recycling plant you plan to sell to
before delivery to them.

Ordinary cardboard boxes which have been flattened is bringing
approximately œ75 a ton. If you're going to collect old
newspapers, you may just as well take cardboard too. Most people
have old boxes around that are jut taking up space, and some will
even pay you to get rid of them.
..page
You start by clearing a space in your garage for storage.

One side of a two-car garage, or just an 8 by 12 foot space would
be sufficient.

If you have a garden shed that is dry, that would work well also.
Some collectors even rent space in a neighbourhood warehouse.

Next, you should place an ad in your community newspaper or the
weekly shopping news, something like this:

Junk, old newspapers and cardboard boxes hauled away. Phone
123-4567.

Then you visit your neighbours. Tell them you are collecting and
hauling away old newspapers and boxes in the neighbourhood each
week.

You might even offer them œ5 a month if they'll have everything
ready for you when you make your weekend collection rounds.

On Saturdays, starting at about 9.00am, rent an open trailer and
hitch it to your car. If you have a pick-up truck, or can borrow
one, so much the better. With your spouse or kids, a couple of
neighbourhood boys, or a couple of friends, start making your
rounds.

You drive the car with the trailer. Your helpers, one on each
side of the street, knock on each door and ask the residents if
they have any old newspapers or cardboard boxes you can haul away
for them.

It would be advantageous for you to have a large sign on each side
of your trailer, and on each side of the car as well. It might
read:

Paper Collection Service.

Visit the people you've talked to on your block first.

That will give you some paper in the trailer and from there, you
just expand.

Go to the next block and the next, driving up and down the
streets, visiting, stopping at all the homes, in an ever expanding
ripple from your own street.

When your trailer is full of newspapers, you can either take them
directly to your recycling plant and sell the load, or take them
to your storage area, unload them and get everything organised.

It's very important, though, that you get right back to the job of
knocking on doors and collecting more newspapers and cardboard.

Some people will (foolishly) collect a load, take it in for sale,
and then waste time gloating over the easy money they've just
made.

One load won't make you rich or even really pay for your time.

Get right back on the job and collect as many loads as the
daylight hours will allow.

Make the same rounds: follow the same collection route, at least
once every two weeks.

Once you've got the routine working well, you'll be ready to hire
a couple of college students to help, perhaps with another car and
trailer.

The best way to pay your help is with a percentage of the tonnage
you sell.

And then too, once you have it all together, you'll want to go
with a truck or trailer that allows you to haul a couple of tons
of paper per load.

It's important that you make regular rounds, calling on the same
houses regularly.

After about six months of this, you'll be ready to open a local
recycling depot.

This simply means taking the accumulation of paper out of your
home or garden shed and moving it to a business location.

Because of your advertising in the newspapers, and the sign on
your truck or trailer, people will be calling you during the week
to come and pick up paper out of your home or garden shed and
moving it to a business location.

Because of your advertising in the newspapers, and the sign on
your truck or trailer, people will be calling you during the week
to come and pick up the paper they have ready for you.

Also, your neighbours will very likely be dropping by with
armloads of paper for you from time to time, as well.
..page
Specifically, these are the reasons you'll need storage space to
store the paper in your garage or other storage area until you
have enough to load up and take to the recycling plant.

One of the best locations for your recycling depot is an abandoned
or closed down service station.

Or perhaps a vacant plot, or even a corner of a large shopping
centre parking area.

You'll need some scales (you can rent or lease one of these for a
small amount), and a quick set up tent or large truck.

What you want to do is establish a location where people can come
to you.

They bring their newspapers, you weight what they've brought and
pay them a penny a pound for newspapers and 2p a pound for
cardboard boxes.

You can hire someone to man this centre for you during the day, or
perhaps only open between 4 and 6 o'clock in the afternoons.

Advertise your hours, and be dependable, so that people can count
on you.

To establish your location, you'll have to check with the owner or
management, and agree not to interfere with their regular mode of
business.

If you do go to a shopping centre car park, sell them on the idea
that your recycling depot - clean and neat - will actually bring
more people into the shopping centre on a regular basis.

The important thing always is to establish yourself in the best
possible location for the least amount of money.

Even though you have a collection depot, you'll still want to
continue your weekend collection rounds.

But with a collection depot, you can hire other people to do the
driving, knock on doors, make the collections and transfer their
loads into the depot facility.

If it's a big truck or trailer, you'll be selling ten to fifteen
tons of paper whenever you make your trips to the recycling plant.

Another important thing you should think about doing is getting
the whole community involved with you.

Get them to thinking about recycling paper and selling it to you.

Run some promotions; work for free publicity; and be conspicuous.

Don't be embarrassed; everyone is aware of the need for recycling
everything that can be recycled.

And you'll be admired as someone with the ambition to make it
happen, picking up a good second income while you're doing.
