EducationEfon Alaaye Club Awards Students, Inducts Three Hundred Into Scholarship Academy by FeranmiO23(op): 6:07am On May 01, 2025
The Efon Alaaye Club on Saturday, April, 19th, 2025 awarded scholarships to seventy-five public secondary school students in Efon Local Government.

The award ceremony, which took place at the Efon Alaaye Civic Centre, was the fourth edition since the club began the scholarship in 2021 - bringing the total number of award recipients to three hundred in the last four years.

Every year, male and female students from the community's five public secondary schools are selected by the club for the award based on various criteria. These include academic merit, nativity, gender parity, physical challenge, and financial hurdles.

Declaring the ceremony open on Saturday, Mr. Kola Ajumobi, the President of the Efon Alaaye Club, noted that the event was the fourth of its kind. And mentioned that the number of beneficiaries has totalled three hundred.

“This is the fourth in the series of scholarship awards sponsored by the Efon Alaaye Club, which started in 2021. But the club was established in December 1971. The club decided to be more relevant in the life of the community and we instituted two programmes. One in the education sector, which is the scholarship scheme, and the other one in the health sector.

Under education, every year, we select seventy-five students from all the five public secondary schools in Efon Alaaye. We have been doing this to the glory of God for four years running. As of today, we have admitted three hundred students into the scholarship academy of the Efon Alaaye Club.

Members of the club come together. And out of their sweat contribute money for this programme for the love of the community,” Mr. Ajumobi stated.

The ace broadcaster and a former Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service also attributed the success of the scholarship scheme to the club members’ commitment. And thanked the community monarch, whom he described as a father and a scholar.

In his remarks, the Obalufon Alayemore, Agunsoye II, Oba Emmanuel Aladejare (Ph.D) applauded the club and described the scholarship award, which covered the fees of the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examination, as unforgettable.

The king further urged the awardees to utilize the scholarship awarded to them and replicate the same in the not-too-distant future.

“What the Efon Alaaye Club is doing today is remarkable and unforgettable. I applaud them. And I am so happy to see you (the beneficiaries).
I implore you to utilise the scholarship awarded to you today and read well. I want it that in the not-too-distant future, when you are old, you can replicate what has been done today for those coming after you.”

The event featured awards for students and public secondary schools who previously received the EAC scholarship award and performed well in the 2024 NECO examination.

The Apostle Babalola Memorial Grammar School (ABMGS) was announced as the first with a 97% pass. CAC Grammar School (CACGS) candidates scored 90% and the Anglican Secondary School was ranked third with 81%. Also, the Efon High School and St. Michael’s Catholic Grammar School scored 50% and 37% to secure the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

In the student category, Esanola Oyindamola from the Apostle Babalola Memorial Grammar School emerged as the best overall student in the 2024 NECO examination with 2As, 6Bs, and 1 credit in nine subjects. Adeniji Bolatito Ruth from the Anglican Secondary School with 1A, 4Bs, and 3 credits attained the second position. And Alo Timilehin Emmanuel from the Efon Alaaye High School with 6Bs and 3 credits was awarded the third.

For the 2025 edition, scholarship certificates were distributed to seventy-five students in the five public secondary schools in Efon Alaaye, comprising the CAC Grammar School (20), Anglican Secondary School (18), Efon High School (16), Apostle Babalola Memorial Grammar School (14), and St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School (14).

In attendance were the Alaaye of Efon Alaaye, Oba Emmanuel Aladejare (Ph.D), Agunsoye II, Olori Roseline Aladejare, Venerable Sunday Adubiesu, Mr. Jaye Oladipupo; Manager, First Bank, Efon Alaaye, Prince Adegoke Olajide, Prince Bamidele Olagunju, Hon Mrs. Oluwayemisi Afolabi, members of the Federation of Efon Alaaye Students’ Union, and other dignitaries.

Principals and school representatives of the five public secondary schools as well as parents of the beneficiaries also graced the occasion.

Reacting, the Coordinating Principal for the Efon Local Government, Mr. Owoeye Obafemi thanked the club for the payment of NECO fees for the selected seventy-five students in the Local Government, saying the scholarship award has saved beneficiaries from missing out on the final year examination.

The CAC Grammar School Principal further sought an increase in the quota of awardees to reduce the number of students who are unable to sit for the NECO examination.

He stated, “The school management, staff, and the entire student community of the public schools in Efon Alaaye immensely appreciate the payment of NECO fees for the selected seventy-five students in the public schools.

This kind gesture has indeed saved the concerned students and their parents from missing out on this year's NECO examination.

The entire school community in the town seeks an increase in the number of students who will benefit from this programme in order to reduce the number of students who are unable to pay for their NECO examination.

We pray that God Almighty will continue to move the Efon Alaaye Club forward and may their undertakings be favourably blessed.”

Also, the Vice Principal, Anglican Secondary School, Mr. Awe Oluranti highlighted the EAC scholarship award as a relief for students from financial constraints. And mentioned that the payment of NECO fees annually has made a significant difference in the lives of beneficiaries.

“The generous support of the club has enabled many students to pursue their education without the burden of financial constraints. And it has truly made a difference in the lives of our young people.

We (Anglican Secondary School) appreciate the club’s unwavering belief in our school’s mission and their generosity in supporting the academic journey of our students. These will no doubt foster a brighter future for them and further strengthen the bonds in our community,” the VP added.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of other students, the Senior Prefect Boy of the Apostle Babalola Memorial Grammar School and the Efon Alaaye High School, Master Ojo Taiwo and Master Oluwatobiloba Adeyemi thanked the Efon Alaaye Club for their support in ensuring increased students participation in the NECO examination in Efon Local Government.
They described the scholarship award as timely and a boost to their academic pursuit.

“I appreciate the scholarship awarded to me and my colleagues by the Efon Alaaye Club. I promise not to disappoint. Neither will they regret that they offered us this support. And for me, especially. I also promise to remember the Efon Alaaye community in the future and do more than what the club has done. God help me,” Taiwo remarked.

In an appreciation message, Mrs. Soji Adekahunsi lauded the Efon Alaaye Club for their kindness and dedication to making positive differences in the community. The mother of one of the award recipients appreciated the club for giving back to the community.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire Efon Alaaye Club for their generous support in paying my daughter’s examination fees. Their kindness and commitment to empowering young minds are truly commendable,” Mrs. Adekahunsi said in a text on Sunday.

The Federation of Efon-Alaaye Students' Union has also lauded the Efon Alaaye Club and described the scholarship award for seventy-five SS3 students as highly commendable.

In a statement issued earlier in the week, the union applauded the club for the payment of their NECO examination fees. And urged beneficiaries to fully make use of the awards provided for them.

“The Federation of Efon Alaaye Students Union (FEASU) commends the Efon Alaaye Club on another edition of its annual scholarship award. For seventy-five public senior secondary school students – a yet another remarkable stride in the Efon Alaaye community.

We applaud the club’s consistent commitment to providing assistance to students. And for the payment of the 2025 NECO fees, which will no doubt provide succour for financially constrained individuals and encourage the efforts of well performing students.

With this year’s scholarship award, our students are further equipped to pursue their academic aspirations to tertiary levels, putting behind financial hurdles that could limit their pursuit.

We urge various beneficiaries to fully utilize this opportunity. And recognise the efforts of the organisers with flying colors in their forthcoming examination scheduled for later this year, “the statement read.

It would be recalled that the Efon Alaaye Club had last December organised a free medical outreach for vulnerable senior citizens aged 55 and above. In concert with chiefs of the six quarters in the community.

About three hundred elderly have benefitted from the annual outreach since the first edition in 2022, which covers free medical consultations, treatment, and medications. With varying treatment spectrum including, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis.

The annual free health mission is part of the intentional strategies of the club, which has its motto as, “Brotherhood for development.”

Established on December 24th, 1971, the Efon Alaaye Club is a group of thirty-six accomplished patriots across the globe, led by Mr. Kola Ajumobi, an ace broadcaster and a retired permanent secretary in the Ekiti State public civil service.

Members of the club use their social capital and varied experiences to promote livelihoods and life expectancy. With charity programmes valued at about 22 million in the last 4 years, including community development projects.

The club is a registered legal entity with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja, RN 172944. And adopts the four pillars of excellence, community development, empowerment, and friendship.

The Federation of Efon Alaaye Students’ Union has lauded Pastor Stephen Korede Oluwasola for the one hundred free UTME forms provided for students in Efon Local Government.

Describing the initiative as commendable, the union appreciated the clergyman’s support, which it said poses a beacon of hope for less privileged students.

Earlier this month, the SKO media team announced the commencement of the registration exercise for the fifth edition of the annual free UTME forms.

According to the release, the transformative project is aimed at limiting financial barriers to higher education and inspiring a new generation of leaders.

Reacting to the announcement on Saturday, the Efon Alaaye Students' Union commended the initiative by Pastor SKO.

The union noted that the free forms is timely and will come in handy for students facing financial hurdles.

“We appreciate the support from Pastor SKO, which not only alleviates financial stress but also inspires our students to strive for excellence,” the union officials stated on Saturday.

While imploring other individuals in the community to emulate similar student-centric programmes, the Efon SU reiterated that the union remains open to partnership and collaboration.

The union also urged the students to utilise the opportunity made available to them.

“The UTME is a pivotal exam in our education cycle. It’s not about the cost but the positive thoughts of the sponsor. As such, the onus is on the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by doing excellently well in their exams.”

The Joint Admissions Board had on January 15th announced that prospective candidates could proceed to get their NIN and new phone numbers to generate their profile code for the 2025 UTME.

The board also approved The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alaba Garba as the reading text for the Use of English.

Aside from O’level results, the screening requirements for the SKO Free UTME Form include the National Identification Number (NIN).
