Min charge rate for lead acid is c10 which means for four sets you need min 80 amps over 12-14 hours ( assuming round trip efficiency of 75 %)

But please use quality DC isolators like schider not teh knife switches meant for AC application as they can spark and weld the contacts . Solar Depot carries them

The problem with using multiple chargers on the same battery bank will be high DC ripple leading to premature failure of batteries or inverter unless you use quality chargers like victron I would advise getting a larger inverter

The batteries are l also large with 5 KVA ( 4 KW) load also it will take almost 8-9 hours to reach 50 % DOD . If you are really consuming 4 KW continuously I would advise getting a larger inverter as most inverters are most efficient and run much cooler ( longer life) at 50 to 75 % loads

I have seen Prag 8 KVA rated at max 100 amp and new Ipower 5KVA from Zinox rated at 80 amps . ( on Grid chargers built in the inverters )

My understanding of such ripples is when a circuit is having different charging source and charged at the same time!

But in this case, the isolators have separated each pack from the rest pack,

Most 5kva inverter na 48v meaning four batteries in series,
So e go be 16/4 which go give you four battery pack.

My candid advise if you wan use nepa light charge them,
Na to first, you something like a knife switch wein you go fit the use separate each pack for charging and combine them all for usage,

Eh! E possible, but small work go dey am.

Now back to the matter!
Well, for the charging I would advise you get 3 48v 20/30a charger for the extra 3 packs, as the first pack would be having it's charges from the inverter directly,
Charging time with my recommendation would be 8-11 hrs all packs would be full.

This is based on the fact you intend charging with power from the grid,

But for solar setup,
I leave you in the hands of our ogas at the top! cool

cigarette lighter

Check the voltage tolerance/variable for the charger .

I'm aware of most 12v system,
Has tolerance from 10.5 to 14.5v
And ac current from 180 - 265v

So my advise is to check it tolerance first for each appliance,

I have power share two 12v dc fan to a 24v supply,

To my understanding,
If your charger meet the acceptable voltage range then it should work fine,

You can give it a try and tell us,
If it works, good for you,
If it doesn't, the ups would trip off,

There are sometimes I forget to turn off my electric kettle before switching on my bluegate 1.5kva ups,
What happens is that it trips off!
All I do is switch of the kettle and off and on the ups!

To me the sound is normal,
It means the transformer is at work,
But if you have been using it awhile and the sound don change,
My advise is to get another ups,
And probably install a dc fan inside it to cool am,
Transformer get hot during operation,
And some ups are not properly vented or where you keep am breeze no dey blow am well.
This is why it is also advised to add a dc fan to it,
Make e dey help am cool down

A re-visit of picture of ur panel and from a DIY point of review of ur installation, I believe it is sufficient enough to give u the needed energy production. what I find odd is u don't have to peel off the black back of the cable. ur cable size is very ok but why peel of the insulating back?

anyway, 40A Cc is thoughtful, the culprit is ur power bank. the PWM CC goes down to the level of ur ba3 & gradually rise or regulate the voltage/amps to ur ba3. unfortunately ur ba3 are not good thus you keep recording low figures which will grow worst till u replace dem.

with ur present state, I advice daytime workloads & nighttime for led bulbs / phone charging only.

But I'm more concerned with the position of the panel,
If they are well optimised,
I know the banks and building are weak,
The total harvest was 24ah,
While it was generating 1.4ah
That is less than 30% of the panel rating at peak performance,
I was expecting a generation of about 4 - 5ah during peak period!

welcome to the forum.
on ur question, it is a pity the information u provided is still scanty. u need to do more.

eg. cable size, make of PWM, ba3 type/bank @ 12/24/48 etc, inverter type. it is a DIY setup etc etc.

how did you size ur bank & refill it up at sunrise before complaining the ba3/inverter indicating low voltage quickly.

mind you with little patience u get help soon ( b/cos u have 3 groups in the house- the DIYs like me, professionals, &marketers)

the DIYs are always ready to help base on their knowledge/limit of experience.

the professionals are simply tired of helping or are keeping certain basic info as trade secrets.

finally, marketers are there for all with after sales advises.

if you're convinced you're not getting enough from the house, pls check YouTube there u have thousands of video on various topics on solar. enter ur comments/questions, ur sure to get help.

What I actually need was the correct positioning for the panels,
As it is already positioned facing east as in relation with the roof,

The inverter,
Is a mercury 2.4kva inverter with two very weak 12v 100ah batteries,

And the wiring was done by one very wack techkie using about 10mm cable for about 10 yards

The solar is on the opposite on the roof of a 3 storey building while the cc is on the 2 storey of the building very close to the inverter/battery,

For the controller, it's a cheapo pwm CC of 12/24v 40ah capacity,

Good day everyone,

Abeg make una help me out!

We got one 250w 24v mono solar panel
With a pwm solar CC,

Because of how the roof is,
It is facing the east,

And at 2:00Pm it was producing 1.4ah when we checked the CC,

Please note the battery on the inverter was very very low,

Please any possible way to optimise more abit?

Charge each battery to 100% state of charge.

Test the voltage of each one with a multimeter. At full charge, 12V battery should read 13.7Vdc.

Get a DC load or use a battery load tester. Connect one battery for a period say 30mins. Then record the final volt. And repeat process for the second battery. Compare the voltage drop for the 2 batteries.
Then what next?

You forgot to mention recording voltage after 3 hours state of rest of charge/discharge also!

So wat if i individually use n discharge the batts den connect in parallel and start a fresh charge? I dnt wanna short-circuit dem cos dt mite cos a problm.
Get something similar to a charge over switch to alternative the battery and use one at a time,
That way, you discharge them and recharge them separately,
Like I said before,
The capacity/resistance of the batteries now differs!
And can't be used together,
As it would shorten both batteries life!

Note that:
When changing/switching batteries always have your inver switched off! No sudden/sharp movement in dc side,
It can be expensive wink

Buy a small DB and move such opportunist loads to it. Size it so your timer can carry the loads. Use an Automatic transfer switch to seamlessly alternate between PHCH and your inverter. See attached.

It would be nice if you could build a circuit to hand both separately,
By using on battery at a time and also charging one battery at a time,

The reason is that,
Your first battery would have less capacity than your second.

For the analysis we would use the water can experiment,
For example,
At charging,
you have a big can and small can,
When you pour water into them at same rate the smaller one get filled, while the big one get partly filled,
Since they are both connected together,
At idle mode when not in use,
The big one would try to equate the small one by forcing more water into the small one making it to overflow or energy loss.
At discharging time,
When you pour out both at same rate, its obvious the small one would finish first,
But it doesn't end there,
The big one begins to supply/charge the small one and supplying power at same time.

In conclusion,
You would be killing the bigger battery during discharge, and killing smaller battery during recharge,

This is just my view though!
I stand corrected in this though grin grin

Lets be very practical and go back to basics.

From physics, the relevant formula to this matter is
Power (P) = Current (I) x Volt (V)
P=IV

The man has 2 x 100AH = 200AH on a 24V inverter connected in series.

Remember that connection in series, voltage increases nd current remains same.

Power =24V x 100AH = 2400Wh

This battery has the capacity to store 2.4kWh of energy. A charger must be able to produce this energy for the battery to store.

So what charger does he have? He has a 20A charger. This means the charger will be able to provide

P = 24 x 20 = 480w

It means that what ever his source is, whether NEPA or generator the charger will be drawing not more than 480watts per second and depositing in the battery.

The math continues
2400Whr /480W = 5hrs

The battery will be full in 5hrs.

It means that any source of AC supply, the charger gets to draw 480W.

In your case, you didnt mention the current for the luminous but i assume its 20A.

Power will be 24 x 20= 480w same as above. Your generator which is actually a 2000w generator (generators of 2500-2900va are 2kw while 3000-3700va are 2.1-2.3kw) will carry this load with ease. Like i noted in my last post, this will depend on other loads on the generator and additionally the state of your generator. Also, this power 480w is 24% of the capacity of the generator.

For the Mustpower which you said 48v x 30A=1440w. This is 72% of the capacity your generator, that is excluding any other load you might have connected to the home. This is not even taking into consideration the serviceability state of your generator to carry such a heavy load.

With this, i dont expect your 2.5kva generator to struggle to power that mustpower inverter especially if connected through your home with other loads and losses.

I actually like your view for being more practical,
But our calculations also are based on real life too.

Point to note,
When converting from kva to kw, a 0.8 power factor is noted,
And also when dealing with current we also work with efficiency due to heat/loss and length of cable which is varies to from 0.6 to 0.9

For your small Gen,
Of 2500va can actually produce,
2500 x 0.8 = 2000watt of power,
And let assume actually efficiency of the gen is 95% or 0.95
Which brings us to 2000 x 0.95 = 1900watts,

For your 4kva 48v mustpower inverter with 4 x 200ah batts.

Noting also, charging voltage is 14v x 2 =56v
And current is 30a
Would give a sum of 56v x 30a = 1680watts

Do note that dc-ac or ac-dc there is always energy/heat loss and not always 100% efficient because the internal component like the transformer and it's cohort sef go receive share for the power,

Thereby noting that your efficiency is atleast at 90% or 0.90
Would bring us to 1680w ÷ 0.9 = 1867w
The extra watt to this is known as payment for energy conversation or owo ile. grin

Now for your generator to last you without stressing it,
You need your load to be at 80% load
1900w x 0.8 = 1520w

Meaning that your Generator can carry 1520w load without going into overloading.

Now your inverter requires a starting power of 1867w and your generator can effectively provide 1520w of power without tripping off,

Now you see why your generator is coughing!

For your 24v 1500kva luminous inverter with 2 x 200ah batts.
Divide your bigger inverter load by 2 = 933.5w

I will just add that he should note that this is just power needed to charge batteries exluding power need by any appliance connected to the inverter especially if the load will be on inverter mains bypass.

It means, that a tv, home theatre, lights or fan load during charging goes directly to the generator by mains bypass design.

Say LED tv 60w, home theatre 30w, lights 3 x 20w, fan 60w, laptop 60w in total 270w. Whether these loads are on the inverter or the entire house mains, they fall back as load to the gen if the gen powers the entire house.

Generator required must be above 560w + 270w =830w. This will be beyond "i pass my neighbor" generator. I would suggest 1500w as minimum.

1500w is cool,
My suggestion goes mainly if he already has a small generator,
But if he intends to buy any, he should good for generator with a minimum of 1500w power not peak power rating oo! grin

As for the load,
I already stated it in my post, thank you very much for further clarification!

Which is quite fair, so long you only use the generator with just lighting bulb and no much load during the period of charging the battery.

Just to be safe,
Anything abit bigger than a small tiger generator should be fine.

Just think about it,
You have 200ah battery connected in series would give you 24v x 200ah = 4800Wh

But note that most inverter recommended charge settings shouldn't exceed 10% to 13% of the battery capacity meaning your 200ah would need at most 20a draw during charging,

So maximum charging current would be:
24v x 20a =480W

Meaning your inverter requires 480W of power to charge it batteries,

Smallest tiger generator is 800W

Meaning you would be using 480/800 x100 = 60% gen power

Which is quite fair, so long you only use the generator with just lighting bulb and no much load during the period of charging the battery.

Just to be safe,
Anything abit bigger than a small tiger generator should be fine.

I just remembered that charging voltage is always higher than 12v, around a maximum of 14v x 2 = 28v
So considering maximum factor of 28v during charging would be 28v x 20a = 560W

I would leave you to do the remaining maths! grin grin
