IMPROVING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ACCOUNTING SYSTEM IN EDUCATION SECTOR

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Accounting aims, as an information system, to provide various users with different forms of useful information to meet their various needs. Therefore, accounting seeks to take advantage of the surrounding circumstances in order to improve the quality and quantity of information and the delivery mechanism to users. The relationship between accounting and the computer began in the sixties of the last century. This relationship continued to evolve, and expanded in the eighties of the last century due to the development of the network and decision-support systems when it took a broader dimension and more flexible known as the computerization of accounting.

Recently, as a result, several accounting software developed to be popular on the shelves (off the shelf) shops to become accessible to most interested in them at reasonable cost. (Mash’hour, 2012). On the other hand, although there are some organizations that prefer to develop their own programs, either by themselves or through professionals, multi business organizations recently adopted the use of comprehensive business systems contain several sub-systems including accounting system.

There may be good policy system accounting, but when it comes to implementation it is not really of which are some factors that are responsible for this. For the purpose of this study, accounting system that was evaluated will be includes in management of revenue and disbursement of the resources. The basic fact is that whatever the act of misappropriation or mismanagement, it will take either of these two ways. One of those focused is how the accounting system operates and it is in compliance with guiding principles of accounting profession. If so, are the principles in practices.

In order to appreciate the magnitude of services required from the accountant and management staff, there are different types of account that are maintained, such accounts are: balance sheet, income and expenditure, statement of cash flow, fixed assets accounts, income from academic operation accounts, debtors and creditors account as well. The study in this regard wishes to examine improving the effectiveness of accounting system in education sector.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Currently, the world and human life has been transformed from information age to a knowledge age (Curtis, 2015), and knowledge has been recognised as the most valuable asset. In fact, knowledge is not impersonal like money and does not reside in a book, a data bank or a software program (Choe, 2016). Choe believed that knowledge is always embodied in a person, taught and learned by a person, used or misused by a person. Accounting information is an unbiased tool for an effective administration. Poor accounting information jeopardizes administrative effectiveness, which makes managers malnourished administratively especially in Nigerian construction industry. The consequence of this has been the current distressed syndrome that Nigerian education sector are facing. Huber (2015) stressed that organization must learn to manage their intellectual assets (i.e. knowledge) in order to survive and compete in the ‘knowledge society’. Indeed, knowledge management is concerned with the exploitation and development of the knowledge assets (Chang, 2011). It is on these premises that the study wishes to examine the effectiveness of accounting system in the education sector.

1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main aim of the research work is to examine the ways of improving the effectiveness of accounting system in education sector. Other specific objectives of study include:

1. To examine the effect of accounting system on the allocation of resource in the education sector in Nigeria.

2. To examine the role of effective accounting system in fraud detection and prevention in Auchi polytechnic.

3. To examine the relationship between accounting system and the development of the educational sector of Nigeria.

4. To investigate on the factors affecting effective accounting system in the educational sector of Nigeria.

5. To proffer solution to the above stated problems

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The study came up with research questions so as to ascertain the above stated objectives. The research questions for the study are stated below as follows:

1. What is the effect of accounting system on the allocation of resource in the education sector in Nigeria?

2. What is the role of effective accounting system in fraud detection and prevention in Auchi polytechnic?

3. What is the relationship between accounting system and the development of the educational sector of Nigeria?

4. What are the factors affecting effective accounting system in the educational sector of Nigeria?

1.5 STATEMENT OF RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
H0: Effective accounting system does not improve the education sector in Nigeria

H1: Effective accounting system improves the education sector in Nigeria

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
The study on improving the effectiveness of accounting system in education sector is significant in that; it will discuss all the areas of accounting lapses in the educational sector of Nigeria, it will also proffer solution to the problem faced by the education sector in proper record keeping and resource location. Finally the study will be of great assistance to the existing literature and to other research students that wishes to carryout similar research on the above topic.

1.7 SCOPE OF STUDY
The study on improving the effectiveness of accounting system in education sector will be limited to Auchi polytechnic, Auchi. The research work will cover the areas of the use of accounting system and its role in proper record keeping in Auchi polytechnic, Auchi.

PoliticsRe: What Are We Celebrating? by fetty101(f): 12:30am On Mar 10, 2019
Unemployment and underemployment is seriously confronting the Nigerian youth in all ramifications. The increase in population of Nigerians is one of the challenges facing the labour market which the government on its part failed to provide full employment to its citizenry. Many Nigerians today are underemployed despite their intimidating credentials being possessed in high flying institutions in the world together with economic recession and inconsistent policies in the country.
It is unfortunate that Nigeria has been unable to resolve the employment debacle that has been undermining the well-being of many Nigerians for a number of years now. More depressing, still, is the fact that many youths have remained stranded outside the vortex of the nation’s economy. This situation portends disaster for any nation. No country can expect peace and progress when its youths are kept idle, angry and unfulfilled. It is a recipe for social unrest and disaster. The percentage of unemployed Nigerians is likely much higher than we have been told, and the number of youths that are unable to find jobs has already reached dangerous heights. Apart from the unemployed, Nigeria also has a high percentage of the underemployed – that is, those whose income, are so low that they cannot afford the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter.
Excerpt from Population and its Impact on Level of Unemployment in Least Developed Countries: An Appraisal of the Nigerian Economy by Imoisi Anthony Ilegbinosa, OlatunjiLekan Moses and Ubi-AbaiItoro Praise.
The overall tone and the statistics of this entire research article is ominous and truth be told, overwhelmingly scary for youths of Nigeria. At first, I stared at the topic, Unemployment and Population growth and wondered what affected what; this was before I added the ‘students’ to the topic.
My mind swirled as to how to write this topic lightly and still give out sound advice as it concerned unemployment and population growth to the students. Because, let’s face it, ominous materials aren’t really fun to read and the message is lost when people generally scroll away from reading the depressing statistics.
Despite the above excerpt postulating on the Impact of Population on the Level of Unemployment, I reasoned that it could also be vice versa – ‘The impact of Unemployment on Population Growth’.
Like I mentioned before, I aim to write this article quite lightly and you might laugh when I present the evidence of unemployment affecting population growth, but it is the salient truth.
As a graduate of Sociology and Anthropology and having lived in urban and rural areas, I have studied and noticed that idleness which results in abject boredom pushes individuals into the cheapest form of fun activity – sex. And sex we know, especially when done unprotected, which might be the case among unemployed individuals, of course will lead to population growth when a child results from it.
The direction of this article isn’t actually salient here; whether population affects unemployment or unemployment affects population, it isn’t important, we are already aware both variables affect themselves. What is important in this article is the way forward.
I have realized about myself, I detest standing around and flogging a problem. So there is unemployment and population growth problem, what is the point writing material after material of papers quoting statistics all over the place? I would rather we find a solution, especially one barring the involvement of government.
Which brings me to the final year students; apart from the topic of unemployment and the problem of population growth making a good final year project topic (find project topics here), what are your plans as you graduate? Are you planning to augment the number of the earlier unemployed youths by doing nothing?
I suggest you rather learn from their mistakes. The government will make noises about the problem of unemployment and might even cough about population growth, but it is left to us to make something of ourselves.
And that brings me to marketable skills; the lectures and certificate from the University is all well and good, but it doesn’t magically result in skills when needed. From my experience as an unemployed youth, I plead with final year students to seek out a skill they are good at and be trained on it; it is the only practical solution I foresee for the problem of unemployment.
As for the problem of population growth, I really have no idea about that. I’m not sure anybody can stop Nigerians from having sex or giving birth, those things are almost like favorite past times in this country. But if it could be attempted, then the government could ask for advice from the government of China, they seem to have an ongoing process as to how to curb the issue of population growth.

THE WHOLESOME REQUIREMENTS OF A COMPLETE FINAL YEAR PROJECT
A complete project contains the following;
 Title Page
 Approval Page
 Dedication Page
 Acknowledgement
 Abstract
 Table of Content
 List of tables/figures/symbols
 Chapter One: Introduction
 Chapter Two: Literature Review
 Chapter Three: Research Methodology
 Chapter Four: Data Analysis and Presentation
 Chapter Five: Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation
 References
 Appendices

Do not be alarmed, it looks more overwhelming when listed out this way, but with proper research, all the headings listed above will be suitably catalogued with data and content. It is also necessary to point out that these headings might be coined differently in different higher institutions but the format remains the same. At www.iprojectmaster.com we make sure your project is wholesomely complied with all these requirements needed for an A+ grade project; click on the link to visit our site.
TITLE PAGE –This is the cover page; a hard cover bound that holds the whole sheaves of project paper in the center. This page carries name of the author, registration number, department/faculty, university, topic and reasons for the research – which is in partial fulfillment of the course requirement required for the award of a B.sc degree and then the date.
APPROVAL PAGE - The name of the institution and department, then a statement signifying approval for the work by the supervisor, head of department and external supervisor. Space is reserved for signatures of all listed parties as well.
DEDICATION PAGE- This is where the researcher dedicate the research to a deity, someone, dead or/and alive. This is different from the acknowledgement.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT - The researcher appreciates all that contributed, (technical, financial, moral and otherwise) to the success of the research.
ABSTRACT - This is the synopsis of the research work. It is often written in the past tense and though it’s on the fourth page in the project, it can only be written after the whole project had been written. Usually less than 100 words summarizing the problem statement, the methodology used, the findings, conclusion and recommendations. This should be in a single paragraph and the word limit not exceeded.
TABLE OF CONTENT - The main headings and sub-headings and page numbers are listed. This allows for easy page identification and reference. The table of content should be edited at the final stage as well, to correctly capture the reflections in the work.
LIST OF TABLES/FIGURES/SYMBOLS - The list is to aid the reader in locating tables/figures/symbols. It should contain the tag numbers, tag which reflects the content and the page numbers. It should be well-numbered and unambiguous. In the main content, the figure/table should be well-labeled.
And now to the main body of the work:-
CHAPTER ONE - This is usually the introduction. This describes the background, scope and purpose of the research. The rest of the report should be tied to the information supplied. The researcher should strive to present sufficient details regarding why the study was carried out. It shouldn't be rushed, a gradual build-up of the content from bottom to top is ideal. It should be closed with a linking paragraph that would disclose the objectives, constraints and limitations.
CHAPTER TWO - This is usually the literature theoretical review.
This presents basically, the work done by others. It is on the ground work done by others that the current research is to be based, hence the review. It sums up the pros and cons of all past work but due credit should be given to the various Authors (see the guide on referencing on this website). The use of quotations should be less in use, more of paraphrasing (reading and making out meaning in your own words), making comments in the review is great as well, it just depends on the context.
CHAPTER THREE - This is usually the research methodology.
Here the language used should be in past tense. It is a sum-up of the research design, procedures, the area and population of study. The data sampling and data sources are detailed as well. The method used, from all alternatives, should also be justified. The materials and equipment used is also included.
CHAPTER FOUR - This is usually for data presentation and analysis (results and discussion).
The results obtained in the research are presented here. Visual aids like graphs, charts and the likes should be used as well. The results should be discussed then compared with results of past Authors. The effects and applications of the results should be detailed as well.
CHAPTER FIVE - This part houses the conclusions and recommendations.
From the results of the research, conclusions are made, then suggestions for improvement for other researchers with similar interest. Based on the whole happenings, recommendations are proffered.
REFERENCES - This is a list of all the relevant journals, books and all sources of information consulted in the research work, either online or print. Plagiarism should be avoided at all costs, all quoted and exact words of different sources should be properly referenced, in-text and at the references' list/bibliography. MLA, APA and Chicago style are the commonest referencing styles.
APPENDICES - This is for all extra materials that were not added to the body of the work. This encapsulates extensive proofs, official data from case study, list of parameters, et al.
P.S: After writing, the researcher should painstakingly proofread the whole content for grammatical and spelling errors. This could be very distracting while reading the material.
The page numbers are easily distorted by changing font size and type, spacing et al. The final submission should be very clear, error-free(to a large degree) and as required by standard.

HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD PROJECT TOPIC

Visit http://www.iprojectmaster.com for more.
The educational curriculum states that in order to be awarded a degree after the graduating, there is need to carry out a research in a field of study. Consequently, this is done at the final year level in all university institutions. A lot of students have challenge when it comes to choosing a research topic. This is as a result of the fact that they lack knowledge on the basics of choosing a good research topic such that most students score poor grades at the end of it or even have to change topic midway through. This write up therefore is aimed at helping final year student know the essentials when it comes to choosing a research topic.
STEPS IN CHOOSING A PROJECT TOPIC
In order to impose order on the choice process and make the process less frustrating, we suggest the following procedure for the selection of a research topic:
• Decide on a functional area or areas of primary interest such as Engineering, production, computer science, management, education and so forth.
• Net choose a sub –area from the functional area. For instance a student who has interest in human resources may choose a topic on organizational behaviour or workplace hostility.
• Look for the possible research topics in that sub area.
• Familiarize yourself with the subject matter relating to the proposed topics.
• Evaluate any tentative topic you choose carefully and critically. A student should have at least three tentative topics in. He should choose the topic which is most attractive to him among the other topics having compared the pros and cons of each of the topics
• Finally, present the chosen topic to the supervisor for further discussion, clarifications and elaborations if need be.
CRITERIA FOR CHOOING A PROJECT TOPIC
It clearly does not make sense to embark on a topic you know very little or nothing about. It can of course be argued that the student can familiarize himself with the subject matter in the course of the study. There are at least two problems with this: first, he may be unable to defend it before the supervisor. Second, he may find out later that the topic is more difficult than anticipated or that the needed materials are not available. He could even lose interest in the topic as a result of any of these unforeseen difficulties. The following criteria must therefore be borne in the mind of the student:
• INTEREST IN THE TOPIC
Many students have in the middle of their research, abandoned their research topics for a new one because they did not have enough sustaining interest in it, in the first instance. For some, they may have chosen it because it was suggested by the supervisor or some other persons they could not say not to. They may have felt that rejecting the topic then would have amounted to being ungrateful on their part which could be seen as an insult to the supervisor. either way it is dangerous to take a topic you are not really interested in because when it gets tough, your interest in the topic is what will sustain you more than any other thing.

• A RESEARCHABLE TOPIC
What makes a topic researchable is when you are able to collate reliable data to answer the research questions. A topic that is researchable can be known using available and scientific tools and methods. Also a topic may be unresearchable not because the relevant data doesn’t exist, but because the student doesn’t have access to them.
• FEASIBILITY OF STUDY
Feasibility of study refers to what it will take the student to complete the topic in terms of the cost of the study, the financial expenditure and the time frame of the study. Consequently, it is paramount that the student from the onset, estimate that he has all it takes to complete the study in terms of finance and materials, and also that he will be able to complete the study within the time frame allocated for it. If the answer to this is negative, then he should abandon the topic before embarking on it.
