Wizkid Breaks Streaming Records with Latest Single “Kese” on Spotify
Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has set a new milestone with his latest single, Kese, which amassed over 1.5 million streams on Spotify within 24 hours of its release. This remarkable feat shatters the previous record held by Davido’s Awuke.
Kese, a standout track from Wizkid’s recently released album Morayo, continues the momentum set by his earlier single Piece of My Heart, a collaboration with American artist Brent Faiyaz. The latter also achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing one million Spotify streams on its debut day.
According to Chart Data, Wizkid dominates Nigeria’s music charts, occupying the top two spots for highest-streamed songs on their debut. Kese leads as the most-streamed, with Piece of My Heart following closely in second place.
Adding to the Afrobeats wave, Asake’s Grammy-nominated track MMS from his album Lungu Boy, which features Wizkid, secured the third spot with 870,000 debut-day streams.
Wizkid’s record-breaking achievements further solidify his status as a global music icon and highlight the growing influence of Afrobeats on the international stage.
It is only a week since Trump dramatically won the US Presidential election in a bitterly fought contest first against Joe Biden and then Kamala Harris after he stood down.
There was plenty of mudslinging from both sides as Democrats pointed to Trump being a convicted felon and claimed he was against women’s rights over abortion. At the same time the Republican leader wildly claimed that Harris was a “communist”.
The man shared his disbelief on social media.
The result from the election came a lot quicker than expected with a much bigger majority for Trump than opinion polls suggested. And for one American the divorce papers have also come extremely quickly. He wrote online: “I voted for Trump, my wife sent me divorce papers. What do I do? I didn’t even know it was possible to be served divorce papers this quickly.”
His post has been shared widely and has more than 12.5 million views on social media and sparked a fierce debate. The man also wrote: “I don’t even know what to say. I’m shocked I married somebody willing to throw away our entire life over politics. Last week we were happy, today we’re getting divorced.
"She won’t have a discussion, she says nothing will change her mind Insists she is going to report my parents because they live off of disability but my dad does some cash work auto repair, so now I’m worried for my while family
It clearly seems that the relationship has quickly become acrimonious with a vicious argument now over possessions. He continued in his post: “She wants me to buy her out of the house, we have $300k in it plus built a 4-bay garage since we bought it 3 years ago. I can’t afford that.
"When I told her this as she was packing her things she said “I guess you’re finally going to really know how it feels to be f****d by a Democrat.” ETA: her name is on the deed but not the mortgage. I’m not confident that I can reason with her. What do I do? Where do I start? How do I fix this? Is anybody else experiencing this in the wake of election results?”
Brekete Family called on "all well-meaning Nigerians and international bodies to join us in demanding the immediate and unconditional release of these children."
Human Rights Radio and Television based in Abuja, Brekete Family, has announced a partial shutdown in protest of the Nigerian government’s detention of underage children.
In a statement on Monday, the award-winning radio and television programme, which focuses on human rights, aired on Human Rights Radio 101.1 in Abuja noted that the decision reflects its deep commitment to defending the rights of the vulnerable and holding authorities accountable.
The protest comes as scores individuals associated with the #EndBadGovernance protests are being tried at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Many of the detained protesters are minors, with their detention and arraignment last Friday sparking outrage and calls on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to release them. At least four of the minors slumped inside the courtroom.
Brekete Family called on "all well-meaning Nigerians and international bodies to join us in demanding the immediate and unconditional release of these children."
The radio and television station emphasised its commitment to solidarity with the voiceless, stating, “Until justice is served, we stand firm in solidarity with the voiceless.”

In 2016, Runtown’s “Made Over You” became one of the biggest Afrobeats hits. But 10 years later, he still hasn't reached the heights many expected.
Instead of making music, Runtown made headlines for legal battles and breach of contract.
Runtown’s journey began as a freestyle artist on the streets. In 2008, he met Nigerian rapper Phyno, and together they created the record label Penthauze Music. After a few releases, “Gallardo,” featuring Davido, became a hit, bringing Runtown more attention. However, the money from his music didn’t match his rising fame.
Desperate for funding, Runtown signed a 50-50 revenue deal with businessman Okwudili under Eric Manny Records. Phyno didn’t agree, wanting Runtown to self-fund with earnings from "Gallardo."
In November 2016, Runtown released “Made Over You,” which became an instant hit, reaching No. 38 on Billboard’s Global Twitter Top Tracks chart. He was even booked to perform at the O2 Arena. However, Runtown started having issues with Dili, the label owner, wanted to be credited in Runtown's songs—a demand not included in their contract.
Two months before his 1 year contract expired, Runtown was lured into a two-year extension with the promise of a collaboration with Nicki Minaj. It never happened. Dili couldn’t deliver, as he was ban–ned from the U.S. due to legal issues.
For two years, Runtown didn’t receive his royalties. When he asked, the label kept delaying, claiming they needed more funds for promotion.
Frustrated, Runtown pursued a collaboration with DJ Khaled, spending around $50,000 of his own money. Though the song “Money Bag” was recorded, the video shoot was abruptly canceled by his label, leaving him financially drained.
Fed up, Runtown terminated his contract and demanded his unpaid royalties. After a lengthy legal battle, he finally won the case in 2019 and launched his own label, Sound God Music Group.
Since then, Runtown has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
