Patrick obahiagbon again *In his recent interview, the chief of staff to Edo state Governor has this to say about Kogi election : The tragic passing of Prince Abubakar Audu has polarize the Nation into political jingoism. Death is bugaboo and life terminus. May his soul rest in unblemished peace. This quagmire and triviality has further obfuscate the scantiness and paraplegic crinkum crankum of our constitution . Our knowledge centura is enveloped in Einstein cubbyhole. The optate of Mr Bello is Godwin's law and this has adjudicate the social disequilibrium and political phantasmagoria among the indignant of kogites. It is my emblem pleasure to congratulate the governor elect, this is saucier to our youth agitation for power. I am manically bewildered, overgassted and flabberwhelmed at the causal rejectal dismal of Mr Bello. This should be buried in a bermuda triangle instantaneously. The modus operandi of the young man is gargantuan and sui-generis. Kogi people should rise up to bring to focal hiceps and biceps to avoid further bureaucratic scramble. |

Appointments: Uproar as Buhari favours Northerners Nigerians especially those from the Southern part of the country on Friday, expressed concern over the appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari. They said the appointments were lopsided and not in the best interest of the country. President Buhari is from Katsina State, Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, are from Kwara and Bauchi states respectively. The judiciary is led by Justice Mahmud Mohammed from Taraba State. Of the nine appointments made by Buhari so far, eight are from the North, while one is from the South. The appointments are: Director-General of the State Services, Lawal Daura, Katsina State; Acting Chairman, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari, Jigawa State; Director, the Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Danteni Baba Ladan; and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Kano State. Others are the State Chief of Protocol, Mallam Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure; Aide De Camp, Lt.-Col. Muhammed Lawal Abubakar, Kano State; Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu; and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, South-West. The appointments, however, drew the ire of Nigerians who asked Buhari to respect the country’s principle of federal character. Already, the Internet, particularly the social media and blogs, are agog with reactions and counter-reactions on the matter. A commentator named Daamazing, on Nairaland, Nigeria’s largest discussion forum, accused Buhari of appointing only Northerners into key positions announced so far. The enraged citizen said in pidgin, “After all your mumu promises, one thing you’ve not achieved, na to dey appoint all the people for your family tree, dey do tourism up and down. (After all your promises, you’ve not achieved anything. All you have done is to appoint your kinsmen and travel all around the world).” Another commentator identified simply as Augster, said, “Buhari, don’t let those who voted for you down because your appointment of only Northerners into top positions is baffling us.” SenseiX, another Nairaland commentator, said it was wrong for Buhari to have brought Daura, the acting DSS DG, from retirement to head the agency when there were qualified persons from other regions of the country still in service. He said, “He ignored the entire senior cadre of the agency- from Bassey Eteng to the least- simply because they are Southerners. Even if he wanted to pick a a Northerner, he should have picked from the service rather than a 62-year-old retiree, whose only qualification is being Buhari’s kinsman, who was in the DSS. When former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Ekpenyong, he was already a Director of Operations, same for Gadzama, who was appointed by Umaru Yar’Adua.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/appointments-uproar-as-buhari-favours-northerners/ |

1. When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of paradise are opened, the gates of hell are closed and the devils are chained. (Al-Bukhari 1898, Muslim 1079) 2. Every Muslim must make intention before fajr to fast(for an obligatory fast). Intention is not uttered. It is determination in the mind and should not be done with audible wordings. (Al Bukhari 1, Abu Dawood 2454) 3. Fasting is NOT just abstaining from eating and drinking, it is also refraining from vain speech and foul language. If one is verbally abused, he should say 'I am fasting' (Muslim 1151) 4. Taking the pre-dawn meal (Sahuur) is a BLESSING. Every Muslim is expected to take the meal EVEN if with a mouthful of water. (Al Bukhari 1923, Ahmad 44) 5. It is the Sunnah to DELAY the Sahuur and HASTEN to break the fast as soon as the sun sets. (Al Bukhari 1921, Muslim 1099) 6. If one hears the call to prayer WHILE still eating the Sahuur, he should not stop eating, rather he should finish his food. (Abu Dawud 2350) 7. Whosoever does not give up speaking falsely and acting on lies and evil actions, Allaah does not care for his abstaining from eating and drinking. (Al Bukhari 1903) 8. The Messenger of Allah used to break his fast BEFORE magrib prayer with 3 fresh dates, if there were no fresh dates, he would eat 3 dry dates, if there were no dry dates, he would take 3 draughts of water. (Abu Dawud 2349) 9. Whoever provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, he will earn the same reward as the person without the person's reward being reduced. (At-tirmidhi 807) 10. It is PERMISSIBLE for a fasting person to bath or pour over his head to relief him of the hotness of the sun or of thirst. (Abu dawud 2365) 11. If somebody eats or drinks FORGETFULLY while fasting, he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk been given to him by Allaah. (Al Bukhari 1933, Muslim 1155) 12. Zakaatul fitr is OBLIGATORY on every muslim, old & young, slave & free, male & female. One Sa'a (approx. 3kg) of food items should be given out before people go out for the 'Eid prayer. On the day of Eid, the Messenger of Allaah used to return (after offering the Eid prayer) through a way DIFFERENT from that by which he went. (Al Bukhari 102/2) 16. Whoever observes fast in Ramadan and also fasts for six days in Shawwal, the reward of a whole year fast is recorded for him. (Muslim 2614/6) |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday urged Nigerians to be prepared to make sacrifices for the unity and political stability of the country. Jonathan made the call in an Easter message he personally signed and made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati. He urged Nigerians to use the Easter holiday to reflect on what more they needed to do to ensure that the ongoing political process is concluded successfully. The President said, “For Christians all over the world, the major lessons of Easter, which we celebrate this year in the midst of general elections in our nation, are to be found in the Messiah’s divine love and glorious self-sacrifice for the redemption of mankind. “This year’s celebration of Easter is taking place at a period of very critical national choices and decisions, during which we must all be prepared and willing to make sacrifices for greater unity, peace, political stability and progress in our beloved country. “We must therefore seize the opportunity of the Easter holiday to reflect deeply on what more we need to do as a people, to ensure that the political process in which we are currently engaged is successfully concluded and that our beloved country, Nigeria continues to move towards a better future for all of its citizens. Happily, we have already successfully scaled the hurdle of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections. I am quite hopeful that the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections will also be conducted peacefully. “To the glory and pride of our fatherland, our collective actions since March 28 have assured the world that the democratic spirit is alive and well in our nation. “By the grace of God, our beloved nation, Nigeria is moving forward despite all challenges.” He further urged Nigerians to pray during Easter that God who had brought the nation this far, would continue to bless the country as it marches onward towards the fulfillment of collective vision of a truly united, strong and prosperous nation. |
Change is imminent but we should also believe that is only Allah that can change Nigeria |
So are politicians simply trying to do the best they can or are they unmerited conduits for the public’s hatred and loathing? Here are six reasons why, when it comes down to it, we really shouldn’t trust them at all. They Really Don’t Understand The Electorate Time and time again politicians say they’re one of us yet so frequently they show how ignorant and out of touch they are. Whilst they live a life of generous salaries, munificent expenses, multiple home and gold-plated pensions (to name but a few), the rest of the country is being crippled by debt, poverty, employment uncertainty and financial insecurity. But we’re all in together. Apparently. They’re Only In It For Themselves Politicians are civil servants so should therefore put the rights and interests of the people ahead of their own, right? Well, not always. In fact, sometimes you have to ask yourselves why they make all the promises they do because constantly breaking them or letting the voters down leaves egg on their face and grovelling apologies on their lips. They’re The Biggest Fraudsters Of All Politicians are always keen to clamp down on benefit cheats and fraudsters exploiting the system – yet they seem to be the biggest culprits of all. The expenses scandal was a recent and deliciously ironic example of a serious pot-calling-kettle-black debacle. It made them look bad, it made them look stupid, and it made them look like hypocrites. And let’s not forget how many of them, erm, accidentally forget to pay tax on salaries, savings and properties. These supposed law makers are very often law breakers. They Can Never Give A Straight Answer Without doubt, politicians are good at dodging, avoiding or just blatantly not answering questions. In fact, they’re the undisputed masters at it. When a simple yes or no would suffice, skilled politicos will make a seemingly answerable question totally unanswerable. And it doesn’t reflect them in a good light. In fact, it makes them look more like the liars and deceivers a lot people already believe them to be. Jeremy Paxman’s interview with Michael Howerd has gone down in the annals of interviewing history, and rightly so – it’s a master class in political subterfuge. Anything To Get Elected The bottom line seems to be that politicians will promise the world and his dog to get your vote but when they’re actually in office they’ve always got an excuse not to fulfil that promise. The system is slow, there’s too much bureaucracy, their hands are tied. Or is it simply they’ll do and say anything to get in power? In Any Other Job, You’d Be Fired Can you think of any employer other than Whitehall and local government bodies that lets its employees get away with so much? Expenses fiddled, taxes dodged, lies told, incompetence delivered on an epic scale – and yet they’ve always got an excuse, someone to vouch for them, an answer to defend their actions. Such indefensible incompetence in any other job will guarantee a swift delivery of their P45. If you’re a politician, it seems you have carte blanche to get away with anything. To trot out those old political chestnuts, they’ve very clear about their position and lessons have been learned. Indisputable proof, I’m sure you’ll agree, that politicians should never be trusted, not even if you see them in an election commercial, lighting up the screen with their false smiles and empty promises. Can you think of any other good reasons why you shouldn’t trust a politician? |
