PoliticsUpdated: NJC Queries Onnoghen, Muhammad by FIRDAUS3(op): 5:46pm On Jan 29, 2019
The National Judicial Council (NJC) rose from its emergency meeting a moment ago with a decision to allow suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and the acting CJN, Justices Walter Onnoghen and Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad seven days to respond to petitions pending against them.

The petition against Onnoghen relates to the allegation of violation of the code of conduct for public officers in relation to his alleged failure to declare his assets.

The petition against Muhammad relates to his alleged misconduct in allowing himself to be sworn-in in manner that breach existing law, tradition and constitutional provisions.

NJC’s Director, Information Soji Oye, said, in a statement that the council also elected to refer petition against CCT Chairman, Danladi Yakubu Umar to the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC).

It was learnt that Onnoghen and Muhammad were absent from the meeting, which was eventually chaired by retired Court of Appeal President, Umaru Abdulahi.

The case against Umar, The Nation learnt, relates to his alleged abuse of judicial authority of breach of constitutional provisions by the orders he made in the course of proceedings in the charge against the suspended CJN.

One of such orders is where the CCT rejected to be bound by orders given by High Courts, directing it to stay proceedings.

Another is the ex-parte order the CCT made, on which President Muhammadu Buhari claimed to have relied in suspended Onnoghen and inaugurated Muhammad in acting capacity.

It was also learnt that the NJC chose to abridge the usual 14 response time to seven, in view of the weighty issues involved in the petitions against Onnoghen and Muhammad.

NJC adjourned to reconvene on February, 11 this year.

PoliticsMagu, Momoh, Dabiri-erewa, Others Bag Awards In U.S. by FIRDAUS3(op): 9:53am On Jan 29, 2019
New York – Malam Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been conferred with the Nigerian American Award as the ‘Anti-Corruption Crusader of the Year
Magu was conferred with the award in Tampa, Florida, by the Nigerian American Business Forum (NABF) for his efforts in stemming the corrupt business practices and fraudulent financial activities in Nigeria. Mr John Momoh, Chairman, Channels Media Group and Channels Television, also bagged the ‘Media Personality of the Year’ for his initiative and innovation at the television outfit.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), was conferred with the ‘Food and Drug Administrator of the Year’ for the transformation she had carried out at NAFDAC within a short period. Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, was also conferred with the ‘Most Diaspora Friendly Personality of the Year’. Other award recipients were Mr Jim Ovia, Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc., who bagged the ‘Banker Personality of the Year’, while Dr Andrew Nevin, bagged the ‘Financial Guru of the Year’. Chairman of NABF, Dr Afolabi Andu, said the award was instituted to recognise the contributions of Nigerians who are doing their best to change the narratives of the country. Andu said the forum was primarily established to bridge the gap between Nigerian American based businesses and their home-based counterparts in the public and private sector. Receiving the award, Magu said taming corruption was the only way forward for Nigeria in its quest for economic development, political stability and social justice. Represented by Dr Aminu Gusau, Director, Policy, Planning and Statistics at EFCC, Magu appealed to Nigerian diasporas to join hands with the Buhari’s administration’s efforts at fighting corruption. Magu warned Nigerians abroad against helping looters to hide their loots.
“I must make a categorical appeal to Nigerian diasporas that under no circumstance should you aid or abet foreign business partners to undermine our anti-corruption laws and processes. “You should not help looters to hide their money abroad or help them in illegitimate fronting arrangements. “It is worthy to note that Nigeria has been the leading country in the international fight for assets recovery and has been most triumphant in partial returns of the loots,” Magu said. Similarly, the NAFDAC boss, who was also a speaker at the NABF conference, said that 65 per cent of medical products were being imported into Nigeria. Adeyeye regretted that majority of sub-standard products were imported into the country, adding that there were compromises too among NAFDAC officials. She explained that she inherited N3.2 billion debt at the agency, which she reduced to zero within a year of her stewardship. She said the absence of NAFDAC at the Nigerian Ports from 2011 to 2018, was largely responsible for the unchecked importation of tramadol that was now killing many youth in the country. (NAN)

From photographs of the swearing in of new CJ Tanko Mohammed, some ignorant commentators have raised issues and wrong conclusion about the sling bag carried by the new judiciary head. Some say it's a Sharia symbol while others said the bag is Fulani herdsmen bag.

Nothing can be farther from the truth and it's good to see from these swearing photos of different CJs in the past. As you can see, only Walter Onnoghen is not carrying a sling bag. That is because as a Christian, he is holding the Bible with which he is being sworn in. Muslims swear by the Qur'an but they cannot hold it as the Christians hold the Bible.

When anyone is being sworn in depending on his or her faith, he holds the Bible or the Qur'an, but in Islam, if you are unclean you cannot touch the Qur'an and the person being sworn in at the time might be unclean since there won't be time to do ablution and cleanse himself. The Qur'an is therefore put in a bag which he carries. This is standard practice for Muslims.

Just think about it - suppose a Muslim had to ease himself a few minutes before swearing by the President, he obviously won't have time to do ablution to cleanse himself and certainly cannot touch the Qur'an with the hand he used in holding his member in the toilet; what better way to get out of this than to keep the Qur'an clean and safe in a bag? It is not just by CJNs.

Those days when members of Military Ruling Councils took their oaths, the Moslem members used the bag. Since then ministers, service chiefs etc. use the bag. Now, Muslims believe that the way to keep the Qur'an from ‘filthy hands’ is by puting it in a sling bag. I am told this is the case even for prayer purposes.

So don't believe those social media gangs saying the new CJ is using a Fulani herdsmen bag to show where he stands.

PoliticsStill On The Suspended CJN by FIRDAUS3(op): 9:37am On Jan 28, 2019
*STILL ON THE SUSPENDED CJN*

This is Copied from "FRIENDS IKOYI CLUB 1938" Forum, posted by Eric Teniola, a Veteran Journalist.

Tunde Oduwole I-QS.
26.01.'19.

Let's face it.

The elections are days away. The supreme court will be crucial. The supreme court panel to be constituted to hear the presidential election petition can decide the election regardless of what the electorate does at the polls

That panel is scheduled to be constituted today.

The CJN was to constitute the panel. The CJN evidently is a shady character. We have now heard that the supreme court is generally filthy. So the character of that panel can be determined by who constitutes it.

Suspicions seize nervous politicians.

Now follow me.

There is a massive gang up against Buhari. The champions of this gang want him out at all costs. They are not ready to allow the Nigerian electorate decide. The ruling party feels the slippery CJN is part of this gang.

So the government decides to go against the CJN to stop a fait accompli at the supreme court. Every shady character will have many long skeletons buried in their ward robe. So they govt excavates the ward robe of the CJN. It doesnt have to dig. It has always known what and where they were buried.

The government has to hurry. Time is against it. It believes that with what it has exhumed the CJN will resign in shame. But not this CJN.

The CJN stares at the govt defiantly

The government has to hurry. The NJC is the proper route. But the NJC is in the hands of the CJN and can not be trusted entirely.

So the government choses the CCT through the CCB. That is a route whose gears it can pull. The CCB is jerked into gear 5.

The CJN egged on by politicians from the opposition and the self acclaimed save Nigeria gang digs in. And starts conjuring and fetching all shades of black market judicial orders to truncate the process at the CCT. The courts all act with suspicious haste and leaves no one in doubt that either the CJN is pull
