THE IGBO ENTREPRENEUR IN THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OFNIGERIA Olanrewaju Akinpelu OLUTAYO Department of Sociology, Faculty of the Social SciencesUniversity of Ibadan ABSTRACTCentral to the capitalist orientation introduced to the Third World nationsthrough colonialism is the role of entrepreneurs in development. This group is still perceivedas inevitable if these nations are to develop. In spite of all the attempts to develop date, verylittle is being achieved. While this monograph recognises the importance of entrepreneurs in development, itasserts that these entrepreneurs have always existed in pre-colonial Nigeria but the re-orien-tation brought about through capitalism has fundamentally affected the pre-colonial situation. As such, there is a disjuncture between the latter and the present capitalist expectation.More importantly, the author tries to debunk the position of certain European writers thatcertain ethnic groups are better entrepreneurs than others. Thus, the responsiveness of theIgbo ethnic group of Nigeria to European economic incentives was a result of a certain his-torico-sciological position that this group occupies in Nigeria. It is posited that as the nationapproaches the twenty- fi rst-century, one cannot say with certainty that ethnicity should be themain consideration for entrepreneurial ability. It is the political economy of each nationwithin the World Capitalist System that will determine the emergent scenario. http://www.academia.edu/25356964/The_Igbo_Entrepreneur_in_the_Political_Economy_of_Nigeria

MalcoImX:If you are intelligent I don't need to remind you that IGR doesn't measure economy, CBN doesn't keep records of IGR, IGR figures are quoted by state governors no federal institutions monitor state IGR, you can choose to tax business operators in your domain higher, I may choose and do opposite, it doesn't measure economy activities of a state, high tax kill business, although state make more money, low taxes to business operators encourage investors most especially locals also affect state govt, they can choose to quote any figures they like, they can choose not to, just like Anambra last year didn't publish their IGR, same with Ebonyi last two years, no where in constitution it's mandatory that state most declare their IGR. |
viviangist:This poor blogger this is old news when the flyover was still under construction 2016, just because of election Gov Obiano is really giving opposition parties serious hardwork, so you have to dig old news just to score political point You are very mischievous Open this page to read and see the picture https://www.thebriefng.com/2016/10/24/anambra-apprehension-as-obiano-flyovers-crack-in-awka/ view the same flyover

lloydtruth:When I quoted him as Yoruba boy some thought I was joking, he is the same person with the handles Johnserek, bantura, imagine chasing shadow when his house is busy burning for over a century. West will face big problem when Nigeria disintegrate, Hausa/Fulani invasion, emir of Kano said Lagos is more important to them than Nigerdelta and ignorants among them doesn't understand the meaning all northern leaders invested much in Lagos, they will influence western muslims , second will be religious crisis, they are enjoying peace because of large numbers of Christians from east.
|
The lunatic can't say such rubbish in Southeast unlike arrogance he displayed to Southwest leaders in Ibadan, the man is so ignorant, no wonder his main legacy in Kano was mass weddings to illit. era. te couples, Igbos 80% investments in North And Anambra and Abia are number 3 & 4 on states that controls 90% of cash transactions in Nigeria and your big for nothing state Kano was below Abia state, thank God for Nigerdelta feeding bottle, no wonder they are backward, when the head is so rotten how will the hindmost part look like With oil money and political power still ranked the poorest zone and heaven for almajiries, imagine when ND oil money cease to flow ![]()
