Yes the federal minimum wage in the US hasn't been updated since 2009 but the reality is the federal minimum wage in the USA isn't really relevant like in Nigeria. States actually determine their own minimum wages. The federal wage was initially pushed when many states were not implementing minimum wages so a federal minimum wage was established to force the states to but since then states have been updating their wages and eg states like Illinois where I live have a minimum wage of $15 so the federal rate isn't really relevant. Some states like DC NYac etc have min wage of $17 and above.

And the reason it makes sense for states to determine minimum wage is that cost of living varies widely across states, NYC cost is very different from Alabama so a federal minimum wage doesn't make sense and just led to fights in Congress about how if they increase it to levels Democrats in eg NYC want then it punishes low cost states and if they keep it at low rate for low income states it pushes poverty in higher cost states so resolution was states determine minimum wages.

You're trying to compare apples with bananas by using the US Federal minimum wage as proof that Nigeria is doing better 😂

The way you guys keep parroting this US minimum wage is $7 like you know what you're talking about is hilarious 😂

Once more the discord between statistics and reality. Dangote is not in charge of this economy, the government is.

And it is the responsibility of government to ensure the economy works for all. If Dangote could do it alone. He will not be doing an IPO.

And he is doing an IPO because he wants security: cash and sentiment because he knows the risks of energy affordability and politics. He knows the high cost of energy is fuelling (pun intended) inflation and his business can come under political threat if the people yield.

What has their 'investments' yielded.so far....nothing.

Look, I am pro subsidy removal only because of the criminality involved and the institutional failures associates with it. Accountability failures that haven't been addressed in government's alternative policy of collection and sharing, aka 'tax and spend'.

So whether it was former/private/citizen waste or present/government waste of resources the effects are similar. Waste is waste.

The very fact that investments have not been made back into the place from where the money was taken out speaks volumes. It is the people's money government is taking and deciding it can invest/spend it better.

You cannot take a loan from bank claiming you can make money for both yourself and the bank and then turn around to tell the back to adjust to the reality of a smaller balance sheet and manage the losses. The bank expects to be better off giving you that money.

Nigerians expect to be better off allowing you take their subsidy. It is their livelihoods you are playing games with.
