Let's even take a state of Illinois, the cost of living and income potential in Chicago the main city is very different from the rest of Illinois that's why you then have the city level wage in Chicago and same in the likes of NYC.

I assure you if the federal minimum wage was relevant and it determined what people were paid they would have done something about it but it really doesn't make a difference because the real minimum wage is driven at state and city level so no one can be bothered to use their politics capital to push it. It literally adds no value and changes absolutely nothing.

If they make the federal minimum wage $17 that doesn't make sense for low cost states like Nebraska etc, if the maybe it low enough for Nebraska it will be too low for people living in high cost states like NY. Do you understand the issue or are you going to keep repeating they haven't increased it since 2009 so Nigeria has done better?

And the issue here is that some Nigerian employees are not even paying the N30k, are you arguing that US employees are paying people $7 or less

Bro please stop abeg, the US Federal minimum wage not being updated means absolutely nothing which is they haven't bothered. Minimum wage is now determined at the state level. Is your argument that people are being paid $7 an hour in the US?

Infact in some cases it is determined at city level, Chicago has increased its minimum wage to $17 so going on an on about federal minimum wage at $7 is an absolute waste of time and means nothing. And no it doesn't mean Nigeria has done better when it comes to minimum wage.

And yes I do agree that Nigeria could also do with state level minimum wage because cost of living varies across the country so minimum wage in Lagos or Abuja shouldn't be the same for Zamfara. If that happens it will nullify the need for a federal minimum wage like in the US.

The reason congress haven't bothered to do anything about the federal minimum wage is because it's not really relevant since it is being managed at state and city level so no one wants to spend political capital on it, it doesn't mean people are stuck being paid $7.

Yes the federal minimum wage in the US hasn't been updated since 2009 but the reality is the federal minimum wage in the USA isn't really relevant like in Nigeria. States actually determine their own minimum wages. The federal wage was initially pushed when many states were not implementing minimum wages so a federal minimum wage was established to force the states to but since then states have been updating their wages and eg states like Illinois where I live have a minimum wage of $15 so the federal rate isn't really relevant. Some states like DC NYac etc have min wage of $17 and above.

And the reason it makes sense for states to determine minimum wage is that cost of living varies widely across states, NYC cost is very different from Alabama so a federal minimum wage doesn't make sense and just led to fights in Congress about how if they increase it to levels Democrats in eg NYC want then it punishes low cost states and if they keep it at low rate for low income states it pushes poverty in higher cost states so resolution was states determine minimum wages.

You're trying to compare apples with bananas by using the US Federal minimum wage as proof that Nigeria is doing better 😂
