Home Delivery Of Passport Starts Next Year, Says FG

“By implication, Nigerians will not need to wait longer than two weeks before they get their passport."

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said this on Monday 09/oct/2023 in Lagos while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2023 University of Lagos International Week.

According to him, Nigerians will soon begin to experience the “sweetness” of the passport application as the ministry has started the automation of the process.

“We have commenced the automation of our end-to-end passport application process, and we have given a timeline from which Nigerians will begin to experience the ‘sweet experience,” he said at the event.

“By implication, Nigerians will not need to wait longer than two weeks before they get their passport.

“By January next year, Nigerians will be able to complete this application process online, and by February next year, with collaboration and partnership with other relevant stakeholders, Nigerians will have their passports delivered to their homes, offices, and other locations of their choice.”

“This, of course, would be extended to our visa application process. We are deploying technology throughout the entire process to make it as seamless as possible. To achieve this, we have set everything into motion to open more visa application centres across the world,” the minister added.

“In this regard, we are also working on strengthening our visa-on-arrival policy. We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enforce the principle of the doctrine of reciprocity, and a committee has been set up in the ministry to achieve this.”

Similarly, the minister said the integrity of travel documents would be restored via data harmonisation.

“Identity is who we are, what we are, and what we live for. But today, what we have is a duplication of our registration,” he said.

“Arguably, Nigeria is the only country I know that has a BVN for the bank, the international passport, the NIN, SIM card registration for telecos, and so on all of which request your data. The integrity of our travel documents must be restored through the harmonisation of our data.”

Honorable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said "The value of the Nigerian passport is more of perception management. We are doing everything to see that Nigeria attain economic prowess. And, through the RenewedHope agenda, we believe our rating will increase once we kick off with all our reforms."

By December this year, people will not need to go to the passport office to capture. People will be able to upload their passport photographs and supporting documents. online with specifications. That will save time of going to passport officers. You will only go to the passport office for biometrics, which will be done under five minutes.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has done what has never happened before in the history of the Ministry of Interior , he has ensured the clearance of all outstanding passports, a total of 204, 322 outstanding which had created an embarrassing backlog.

This clearance has again made Nigerians to loud his dedication to the job as well as his charisma of always getting the job done. Some have even nicknamed him; minister talk and do.

His consistent passion for the alleviation of the pains of Nigerians has made a number of them applaud President Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to the ministry as he makes everyone believe that the Renewed Hope agenda of the president can be realized.

Prominent Instagram blogs, Goldmyn and Instablog, posted the recent development, and their comments section is full of praises and happiness.

Mona_Liza_Perry came out batting with "I've heard some people say they haven't been called by the passport office, please go do NIS office and collect your passport, it's not everybody that will receive message for collection from them. Your passports are ready".

Macjay147 contributed with "Nigeria can actually work like other countries, if we jestison nepotism with capacity, put qualified people in positions of power and we will see every sector working smoothly. See how this minister has delivered within short period what previous ministers failed to deliver".

Similarly, emlexprince noted, "if this minister can perform such actions, we are expecting other ministers to do likewise in their capacities. It is time to make Nigeria work, now not tomorrow. Our future begins now, not tomorrow.

folaelizabeth gave a testimony, "Thank you o, my sister did her passport and it's just one week or so, I was surprised.. God bless you sir."

In like fashion allforgodventure, recounted "I collected mine last week Friday, with no additional fees."

Another IG user, bukkiean said, "God bless this man. Na me know wetin my eye see for this passport matter."

Sounding a note for caution, Nightmarshal1 said "Some of you should understand that you were outrightly scammed when you did your passport, so you most likely will not collect anything. Passport backlog has been cleared to zero!

Bamitale29 declared that, "To those who did their capturing in shagamu, kindly go and collect your passport, I was there last week Friday, and a whole lot of passports have not been collected...like hundreds.

All in, it is clear that Nigerians have warmed up to the person of the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo aka Mr. Talk and Do.
